Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Barbara Boxer: Please Call Me 'Senator' Posted: 06/17/09 Filed Under:The Capitolist Overheard at a Senate hearing yesterday: "Could you say 'senator' instead of 'ma'am?' It's just a thing. I worked so hard to get that title. I'd appreciate it." --Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) to Brigadier General Michael Walsh during Senate hearing Tuesday, when he the general repeatedly said, "Yes, ma'am," and "No, ma'am," when answering Boxer's questions at hearing she chaired on New Orleans' levee system. It's that time, I am within a year of my ADSC and starting to get nervous about job prospects. Obviously I could just post a resume to Monster.com or the like, but I am looking for advice from others who have made the jump back to civilian life. My bachelor credentials are really not that relative after 6+ years out of any practical school experience (EE). And I am a 12B so aviation wise not qualified for squat. I am really hoping that simply having been an officer and aviator with a current clearance will net me some luck, but I doubt monster.com is going to be much help aside from finding entry level jobs. Are there any good placement firms/resume posting hubs f…

Updating my military photo is a pain in the ass as I promote or get some new trinket awarded to me. (yes.. I have to actually update my service photo. Maybe some of you are lucky enough not to) Would anyone find value in a service that lets you upload a photo, state what needs to be changed, and you get a new military photo back that is up-to-date? I'm thinking about starting a small business based around that concept, but I'm not sure if there's a solid need.

Does anyone know a good place to buy them? I've been looking all over the internet and they are pretty expensive for the type I'm looking for. One of my buddies found a place that sells "imperfect" boxes for ridiculously cheap, but he can't remember the site anymore. He bought five of them and they all looked perfect.

Hi all, The Jordanian Falcons are running a photo comp for the picture with the most 'likes' taken last weekend at the Air Tattoo, Fairford. My photo is currently near the top of the leader board so every 'like' counts. If you can spare 3 seconds then please click on the link below and 'like. Many thanks in advance. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1654226341361310&set=p.1654226341361310&type=3&theater&ifg=1 Regards Alex

I've heard from someone at Shaw who knows Todaro that the bold text above may be a key factor in the charges that resulted. Clearly anyone with a brain knows that pushing someone for groping your wife and then heading to another bar isn't exactly attempted murder. I highly doubt he was trying to push the guy just right so that he would hit his head and die...and Todaro probably didn't know how badly the guy was hurt. I'm sure there is more to this story, but so far my reaction is "YGTBSM..."

Last night (aired today) Simone Biles - greatest American Olympic gymnast- withdrew from the women’s team competition after one event. Original thought was a medical issue but it turns out she withdrew because of mental health concerns. The US ended up finishing second to the Russians for the first time in several olympics. Thoughts? Smart/brave/cowardly/??

Need a little help. A bud of mine was just commissioned in the Navy Reserve. There was a Simpsons episode where Homer joined the Navy Reserve that had a great commercial that went "Daybreak, Jakarta. The proud men and women of the Navy are protecting America's interests overseas, but you're in Lubbock, Texas hosing down a statue, because your in the Naval Reserve. Once you complete basic training, you only work one weekend a month, and most of that time your drunk of your ass. The Naval Reserve: America's 17th line of defense, between the Mississippi National Guard, and the American League of Women Voters." I am trying to find a video clip of the commercial from that…

Friday night, Beale had a Skillet, Hoobastank and Dirty Hooks concert on the flightline. Skillet was headliner and the performance, lights, stage effect, etc... was fantastic. They told me they were going to Travis (last night), Vanderburg, Edwards, Cannon, Dyess, and Laughlin. I don't think the word got out like it should have... but if you're at any of those bases, don't miss it. Great show! They apparently enjoy doing these military tours. Cory B, who has well over 1,000 U-2 sorties, landed while I was running the band around Friday afternoon, and we got a good shot with him and them.

An AI-powered drone tried to attack its human operator in a US military simulation Speaking at a conference last week in London, Col. Tucker "Cinco" Hamilton, head of the US Air Force's AI Test and Operations, warned that AI-enabled technology can behave in unpredictable and dangerous ways... "The system started realizing that while they did identify the threat," Hamilton said at the May 24 event, "at times the human operator would tell it not to kill that threat, but it got its points by killing that threat. So what did it do? It killed the operator. It killed the operator because that person was keeping it from accomplishing its objective." According to…

I've been earning some part time money (received via a W-9) and I really do not want to pay a lot of tax on it. While I know my current arrangement won't last for too long, I figured more opportunities will eventually surface and, even if not, I might as well incorporate the family name so I can deduct business expenses for the foreseeable future. 1) I would love to hire a CPA to set it all up. Any good advice for pitfalls, expectations? What can I expect cost wise? 2) Since I seem to move every 1.2 years, does it matter what state I use to register the name? Can I just choose one to avoid state income tax? Do I have to have an address there. 3) Sole Proprietor, L…

The laptop thread got me thinking...I've been considering upgrading to a smart phone with Sprint. I've also considered getting just a PDA, but I really don't want to tote around a PDA and a cell phone. Anyone here use a smart phone with sprint or another carrier? If so, what kind of phone/plan do you use? I'm just looking to see if its worth getting. My pocket-sized notebook is starting to get messy and I need a little more organization. Techsan

Gents, I need to replace our bag/case to carry DTC's and DVR's to/from the jet. Does anyone use anything other than the standard green sack sledge (named as such due to pendular swinging into ballzac area while attached to harness) or Royal Bags tool kits? Cheers

We have a stash of books to 'gift' any Air Force squadrons that want to make a quick buck. Might help buy a few kegs of beer for the squadron bar. Time is of essence. Have to shift the books before the second week of Feb. Please see post 13 below for stock levels and post 15 below for instructions. Only cost to you is shipping, which is approx. $1 per book. That can be paid in US $ to my business partner Col (ret) Doug "Disco" Dildy (ex-Eagle driver). Payment details will be sent once the books have arrived with you, so it's a no risk deal. Thanks.

Before I share my story, I just want to say that this is not intended to be an academy bashing thread. I simply thought I'd share a funny thing that happened to me at the gym yesterday. So there I was lifting here at Shaw yesterday, and this guy who is decked out in USAFA clothing is using all the same equipment as I am. So after a few min I say hi and ask him what he does. He says that he is a pilot. I ask him what squadron he is in, and he says he's going to pilot training next month. I kindly respond by saying, "If you haven't graduated pilot training I wouldn't go around saying that you ARE a pilot buddy." Quickly he says that's sir to you. This is where I g…
