Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Sad story. Weather at the time was winds calm 1/8-1/4 SM vis and VV001. They hit high tension power lines estimated to be ~100' AGL. Parts of the a/c crashed into a daycare and some other things...no one on the ground injured fortunately. Knocked out power for the entire city pretty much all day. No idea what would possess someone to t/o with that weather in a Cessna 310. Are civilian pilots even required to meet IFR climb gradients OEI? Fellow military members: just writing to warn everyone not to use a power company in Texas called YEP Energy. Their rates are low but their customer service is horrific and they are not military-friendly. When I called to cancel my service during my PCS from Texas months ago, they made no mention of the $175 cancellation fee they planned to charge me. When I received my final bill and saw the charge, I sent them a copy of my orders and asked that they reconsider. I received an amended bill, paid it, and thought that was the end of the matter...until a collection agency called me last week! I paid the bill again, fearing my online payment hadn't gone through. …

Flew out to SoCal to grab a bite to eat. Saw this at the DFW airport USO. :( I am glad my parents can't come in and see our multi-service slander on a wall, or checkout line. My comment is not toward the USO, as they always have these out. I even remember the day's when it talked about new weapons or new bases. But I am rather irked at the state of affairs being so precarious and publicized that all 3 of these magazines have that trash on them. Perhaps its time to put those black plastic cover things they put on front the pRon mags at the liquor store/BX onto the "times/crimes" magazines. I personally relegate them as propaganda and let my politruk tak…

Found out I'll be at Maxwell through deer season. Does anyone have any good info for non-resident white tail and possibly hog hunting in AL? I'm down for driving anywhere in the state on the weekends. I'm not much for outfitters (don't desire to pay $1400 for a white tail hunt), but if that's the only realistic way to hunt I am not against it, assuming I can find something reasonably affordable. I appreciate the help any of you can lend. Also, if anyone else here is going to be in AL for the first month of the early gun season, let me know if you want to put a trip or two together.

I'm deploying in a few months for the first time in about 3 years. It's a non-flying gig. For some background, I'm the "gun guy." I have my own preferences on holsters that I've come to by trial and error. My last rote had me flying, wearing a bag, and a shoulder holster was the best option, for me. Now, we're all in OCP's, So a belt holster seems an easier and better option. I haven't been able to find an OI or AFI that dictates what kind of holster may be used for an M9 at the big OEF bases. What I need to know is requirements on position, material, retention, as well as magazine carriers. The easiest way is if someone can point me to the written regs …

  16. I've been earning some part time money (received via a W-9) and I really do not want to pay a lot of tax on it. While I know my current arrangement won't last for too long, I figured more opportunities will eventually surface and, even if not, I might as well incorporate the family name so I can deduct business expenses for the foreseeable future. 1) I would love to hire a CPA to set it all up. Any good advice for pitfalls, expectations? What can I expect cost wise? 2) Since I seem to move every 1.2 years, does it matter what state I use to register the name? Can I just choose one to avoid state income tax? Do I have to have an address there. 3) Sole Proprietor, L…

  18. This luggage tag, presumably owned by "Viper Driver Tweak" was found by an associate of mine at the aeropuerto in Erie, PA. It is currently being held hostage by the Swedish Bikini Team, who are threatening to suffocate it with their boobs and/or thighs if ransom demands for its return are not met. If you know Tweak, and he cares enough about this $15 bag tag to save it from certain death from overexposure to soft, delicious Nordic flesh, contact me to help arrange to get it back. Photos/video of the bag tag torture threats unavailable at this time.

  19. Any of you work for BGI post retirement or while in the ANG/AFRC? I'm trying to get hired to a sim gig, the announcement is up for the job on their website (for the last couple of years) and I just cannot make any headway into getting the job. The bro-network is strongly on my side but it just hasn't happened. I've given some thought to Booze-Hamilton and was wondering what the peanut gallery thought. I have an income cap due to disability retirement (long story, soon) and full time would be tough. And yes, I meet all quals.

(source) An F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet piloted by the son of a candidate to be the Oklahoma attorney general crashed in rural Louisiana on Wednesday during a training exercise. Looking for some feedback and solutions of others. I have a lot of porn....errr personal files and I am looking for a backup solution that is safe and allows for world-wide access. I am not a big fan of the cloud services...giving big tech all my data is not high on my list and personally I think there will be a large cloud cyber attack in the near future. I've looked at several home cloud options and have ruled our Western Digital after the big hack and some nefarious nonsense around requiring hard drive replacement every three years. As of now I am thinking the Synology DS1522+ which I would set up as a Raid 1. We have a lot of old family pictures and vid…
