Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Surprised nobody said anything about this yet. A new book - "No Easy Day" - is set to be released on Sept. 11 that details the raid that killed Bin Laden and was written by one of the SEALs who was actually part of the element that kicked down the door and killed Bin Laden. Obviously, questions about OPSEC and things of that nature are running rampant as a result. So is the author "Mark Owen" (pseudonym for the actual author who has been revealed by Fox News if you want to find him)a hero or a rat for breaking the silence of such a top secret mission? https://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/08/24/will-no-easy-day-book-on-bin-laden-raid-break-seals-code-…

This is not to debate the merits and/or lack of merits, of a possible war with Iran. If we get drawn into another war this fall, with Afghanistan still ongoing, is it worth it to you to keep pushing toward the 20 year mark in your career, or would you pull chalks?

Another one. I can't find any articles on the internets yet, but the local news just reported on another attempted shooting, this time in New Mexico. The news story said that the volunteer fire chief of Velarde, NM (40 miles N of Santa Fe) showed up to a meeting of firefighters today wearing body armor and carrying an assault rifle. They said he allegedly pulled out a pistol and pointed it at the group. They charged him and he ran away. Police are still trying to track him down, armed and dangerous. It sounds very much like a copycat of the Aurora shooting, but thankfully with a very different outcome. https://www.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/1805/3687980?ti…

This almost belongs in the WTF thread because it is so out of character for our fearless leaders- the Air Force is actually fixing something it messed up almost a decade ago. I am both impressed and scared this will be messed up somehow. From the AF Force development Facebook page: SQUADRON SUPPORT--HELP IS ON THE WAY: As you may be aware, the Air Force is continually looking at how to best provide support to our commanders and Airmen. Accordingly, our efforts led us to move additional support back to the squadron level in the form of Unit Orderly Rooms. When fully implemented, a typical squadron will have support staff with at least one personnel specia…

I did a search and didn't see anything on this. I'm not one of these extreme "prepper" guys who wants to stockpile tons of food and weapons, but my wife and I were discussing the idea of having a few weeks/months supply of food in case of emergency. I was just curious if any other guys on AD have attempted this...and how does it work when you have to PCS every 3 years? I'm guessing you could put most/if not all of it in HHGs if you were under weight allowance. I have heard that the mormons stock up to one year...but have never asked any of the bros how/if they did it.

I saw this on the NBC show "Rock Center" the other night and had never heard of this man. It was the story of Billy Fiske. He was an Olympic Gold Medalist in 1932 (Olympian in 1928) who also carried the flag in the opening ceremonies of the '32 games. He faked Canadian citizenship to fight for the RAF and was the first American born citizen to be killed in World War 2. So it looks like after all this time the old wife is moving out, on top of that I'm about to PCS and she has said for work reasons she ain't coming with me. I searched topics and didn't find anything specific so if this is a repeat please kindly point me in the right direction and I'll delete this. No doubt someone else on this forum has gone through it...any advice on how to not get completely screwed as a military guy? I honestly don't want it to go that far but at the same time, I am quite tired of her shit. I have two kids that I adore more than anything in the world so I want to make life as easy as I can on them. I would be fully willing to mediate this out lik…

Got an email today saying that the new military rate for TUI is $300 per credit hour. Tuition assistance is only paying $250. Anyone think that the Tuition Assistance is going to get increased to match their new tuition? I started TUI only because it wasn't going to cost me anything out of pocket and now being half way through I am going to be stuck paying for this POS degree.
