Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

This doesn't bode well. How badly will this throttle back our porn habits? In all seriousness though, this could get ugly. https://m.policymic.com/articles/89475/the-government-just-turned-the-internet-into-the-equivalent-of-first-class-and-coach?utm_source=policymicFB&utm_medium=main&utm_campaign=social

Anyone interested in a Viper Breitling order? I want one...and don't know of anyone starting an order anytime soon so I'll do it. I have done essentially no research other than being envious of everyone else's cool watch. I'll do the leg work when it seems like we're close to enough people being interested.

Updating my military photo is a pain in the ass as I promote or get some new trinket awarded to me. (yes.. I have to actually update my service photo. Maybe some of you are lucky enough not to) Would anyone find value in a service that lets you upload a photo, state what needs to be changed, and you get a new military photo back that is up-to-date? I'm thinking about starting a small business based around that concept, but I'm not sure if there's a solid need.

  4. I've been recently reading a lot about the DoD's response to aviation (and other class A) accidents. I read the original book on the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS) by the US Navy creators Doc Wiegmann and Shappell. Basically, the book contends: 1. Aviation has gotten super safe, but accidents still happen from time to time. 2. When accidents do happen, they are predominantly caused by human factors (~70-80% of the time). 3. It is important for the safety process and future accident prevention to identify specific human factors and the standardized taxonomy that should be used is the HFACS framework. I completed this resea…

Hey guys, I've been lurking here for a little while and finally found something worthy of posting. I found a link to this on another forum and it was just too good not to share. It was really hard to pick out a favorite line, but I think mine was, "BTW A one time experiementation while in the military, does not make one a homosexual." Enjoy... Mall Ninja

Gents (and Ladies) If the mods want to move this to the flying videos thread then I am sure they will, but I thought that this video was so damned good that it deserved its own thread. The Mach Loop The video was taken from a hill top in Wales where Air Forces from around Europe come and do their low flying. For the RAF, these low fly areas don't have a minimum altitude restriction, and for USAFE I believe the limit is 500' AGL. In this video, there is some good F-15E action, as well as a C-130J pass for you heavy types. The little black jets are BAe Hawk T.Mk 1As, and the guys flying them are students undergoing the Fast Jet portion of their flying training. …

Was crossing the pond a few months ago and had a Travis KC-10 dragging us. The boomer (or somebody else on board) may or may not have taken a few snap shots for us after we were done AAR'ing. Trying to see if anybody can help me find any info. I think it was a AFRC tanker and crew.

https://www.cnn.com/2014/12/10/world/senate-torture-report-world-reaction/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 Anyone want to touch this one? My preliminary thoughts: If true, I'm disturbed that we would stoop to this level. It also guarantees that no captured U.S. citizen will be treated even semi-humanely when captured for a long time. OTOH, if it gave us good intel to get some bad guys, then more power to 'em. Additionally: Anyone notice that the two Dr's running the camps were the ones who designed USAF SERE school?

  17. Not a lot in the media about this. The two innocent victims tragically killed during a terrorist siege at a Sydney cafe have been named as cafe manager Tori Johnson and barrister Katrina Dawson. Mr Johnson, 34, was shot dead after he heroically tried to wrestle the gun from the hostage-taker inside the Lindt cafe in Martin Place just after 2am on Tuesday morning. Ms Dawson, a 38-year-old mother of three children under 10, later died in hospital after being held hostage for more than 16 hours. She was a barrister at Eight Selborne Chambers in Sydney's Phillip Street, opposite the Lindt cafe. It comes after revelations the remaining hostages made a…

Can anyone explain to me our future tax liability under the new health care law? I keep hearing talk of huge tax liabilities because "Cadillac" health care plans would be considered income. I imagine the health care we get as military personnel and retirees is considered pretty "Cadillac-esque." Are we exempt as military personnel? Does anyone on the planet understand this stuff? And yes, I know Cadillac automobiles are junk. I didn't choose the expression.
