Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Not sure if you all saw that Senior Chief Petty Officer Britt Slabinski was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions at Roberts Ridge back in 2002. The interesting part is that TSgt John Chapman is also being awarded the MoH for the same battle. The controversy is that some think Slabinski left Chapman behind and the NSW community tried to block Chapman’s MoH to protect the reputation of the SEAL community. Thoughts? https://www.newsweek.com/2018/05/18/navy-seals-seal-team-6-left-behind-die-operation-anaconda-slabinski-chapman-912343.html?amp=1

Another reason we're doomed. I know it's Fox News and it shows F-18s for the first few seconds, but as a prior B-1 guy, the struggle is definitely real.

I seem to remember that you could delay your postmission crewrest, but I forget where a reg like that might even be. Anyone heard of it? I have been delayed again from getting outta here and now our leave is going to coincide with our postmission which is a waste of postmission. So I rather use my postmission after I come back from leave.

Who chooses where an aircraft stops for crew day/fuel? Reading a lot of ignorant shit on FB by non AF trying to spin this Trump hotel in Scottland into this grand conspiracy by the White House to bolster the hotel's bottom line 5 people at a time.

Article copied from Fox News but they lifted it from the Wall Street Journal (https://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/08/08/sell-f-fighter-jets-saudis/). I thought these were reputable news organizations? I mean really? And I guess nobody thought it would be good to check and see if Saudi Arabia already owned any F-15's...I mean they only have 82 C/D models and 71 S (E) models...

Possibly coming to the US. If big enough it would bring the entire country to a stand still. Big cities would be hit the hardest. I don't think a lot of people realize that literally everything, everything, no matter what it is, was brought in at some point on a truck. I support this protest as a message to the "ruling class" as a reminder who they are supposed to be working for.

Honestly, Business Insider isn't good for much else than clickbait "news" articles. However, this article piqued my interest. In a scenario like they outlined? I'd say they're right. But a full-on insurrection across the entire US? I think it would be a fractured mess. In the wake of the Turkey coup, such a scenario is just interesting to think about. To be clear, I am in no way advocating any action... Just a fun mental exercise. Any thoughts? https://www.businessinsider.com/us-military-armed-rebellion-2016-8

Not so much a news story as a interesting (gross) picture of the kind of guy who always seems to sit next to me on planes. It brings up the debate over charging obese passengers extra. Personally I think this dude should be put in the cargo hold, but that's just me. Should obese fliers pay more? MSNBC video on the subject

Recently moved to the South, will be at Keesler and Maxwell through college football season. Do they show Big 10 games down here, on ESPN or ABC? I am a big Ohio St fan, they are usually on ESPN but I don't know if they show them just in the midwest or show those games down here too. If not do local sports bars have those games on? Thanks for the help. Can't wait for the upcoming season!

Not sure how many of you watch American Idol, but tonight might be a good time to tune in. A Captain by the name of Lyndsey Goodman will be on tonight. She grew up right down the road from me, went to the USAFA, and now flies the C-17. You can hear some of her music and read more about her at her myspace page.

For you retirees... Your thoughts on wearing the Mess Dress at formal events. I'll have 4-5 events in 2016 where this will matter. 1. Military graduation where graduates will wear their Service Dress: would you wear yours? 2. Formal dinner event where you will see a lot of tuxedos, but that will also have active duty military in mess dress. Which will you wear? I've become partial to the civilian tux recently (and will likely wear that), but am curious what the rest of you do. You're not a retiree? Then keep your opinions to yourself, junior, and get the hell off of my lawn.

Last night (aired today) Simone Biles - greatest American Olympic gymnast- withdrew from the women’s team competition after one event. Original thought was a medical issue but it turns out she withdrew because of mental health concerns. The US ended up finishing second to the Russians for the first time in several olympics. Thoughts? Smart/brave/cowardly/??

I'm going to stir the pot a bit...I went to the airshow in Duluth last weekend and while I had a great time, I couldn't help but think about how much money the AF spends to execute the Thunderbirds' "mission." With all the belt tightening going on around the Air Force, why are things like the Thunderbirds and the God awful Tops in Blue (these guys need to be thrown out the back of a speeding van) still given huge budgets to travel all across the globe? Why not get rid of them? Now I realize this will never happen (public image, PR, blah, blah, blah), but I suspect that most of the rank and file of the AF would agree with me. As an AF guy, the Thunderbirds never made me fe…

Gents (and Ladies) If the mods want to move this to the flying videos thread then I am sure they will, but I thought that this video was so damned good that it deserved its own thread. The Mach Loop The video was taken from a hill top in Wales where Air Forces from around Europe come and do their low flying. For the RAF, these low fly areas don't have a minimum altitude restriction, and for USAFE I believe the limit is 500' AGL. In this video, there is some good F-15E action, as well as a C-130J pass for you heavy types. The little black jets are BAe Hawk T.Mk 1As, and the guys flying them are students undergoing the Fast Jet portion of their flying training. …

https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/your-military/2023/09/18/search-on-for-missing-marine-corps-fighter-jet-after-pilot-ejects/ A Marine Corps pilot safely ejected from a fighter jet over North Charleston on Sunday afternoon and the search for his missing aircraft was focused on two lakes north of North Charleston, military officials said. The pilot ejected and parachuted safely into a North Charleston neighborhood at about 2 p.m. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was in stable condition, said Maj. Melanie Salinas. The pilot’s name has not been released. Based on the missing plane’s location and trajectory, the search for the F-35 Lightning …
