  1. Past hour
  2. Definitely a lot of truths in here. As a non-rated cyber guy, I can attest that it's common to have Lts in leadership roles (OIC and even Flt/CC) in massive squadrons. The Flight I was Flt/CC for had 120+ peeps to lead/manage and when I swapped to DO we had a Lt take it over. The point being, there is definitely an opportunity to show leadership at any rank, and non-rated AFSCs tend to have fewer officers in general, therefore giving more leadership opportunities. I do think there is some additional factors to consider when it comes to the diversifying of AFSCs. I'm sure they factor in how many people they are taking from each career field and may have additional restrictions beyond the overall number of pilot slots for the year. Career Field Management is tricky, and there's for sure a lot of behind-the-scenes work we don't see. Anyway, our fates have been decided! Who's going to go to the rumor mill to find out how many slots they had this year?
  3. Remember the bicycle test? That was the air force I joined. I really never thought I would've seen organized PT and a test with actual running. 2 miles is kinda overkill for 99% of the air force.
  4. Next 9/11: drone swarms targeting airliners, first or second climb segments, most vulnerable. Simultaneous execution across a dozen or more airports before NAS can react and shut down. Clancy predicted 9/11 methodology seven years prior.
  5. Today
  6. The Airmen and NCO page is melting down over the new test. So glad I am retired.
  7. I don't think it can be a mylar balloon because ultimately it does interact with whatever comes from the top left of the screen, and afterwards it fluctuates exactly like a liquid. What this footage looks like to me is a camera that isn't being used, as the drone flies, so it's just scanning across the sea. Then whatever contamination in the lens starts bouncing around in there, which the sensor operator plays around with, and it makes a somewhat cool looking video. And somehow someone with a great sense of humor took that video and leaked it claiming that it was a UFO. But I say again, absolutely nothing about that video looks like a hellfire missile hitting anything.
  8. On an unrelated topic, the Danish PM is pretty hot!
  9. Wouldn't be the 1st time a bouquet of golden mylar presented as a threat. One day on final, had to roll right at 300' to dodge a bunch heading towards the #1.
  10. I wondered about this as well. This is most likely a Mylar balloon, but did it show up as some sort of credible threat due to the reflective surface? You would think the speed would be a giveaway since it could only “fly” as fast as the winds could push it but then again drones could fly quite slow so maybe a case of better safe than sorry.
  11. I have been watching this development over the last few days with many European News outlets calling these drones over airports “attacks” since they are disrupting critical airspace. It’s hard to judge the size but they appear to be much larger than the typical quadcopter size of hobby drones! https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4g96gvql99o.amp
  12. 21 st Century BattleBot competition. I think you're in to something.
  13. This same exact situation just happened to me at WP. I’m in the same shoes as you. Got picked by a C17 reserve unit and am worried this will end it all. The flight doc said he would submit a waiver request but the optometrist was not so hopeful. What was the outcome of your situation? Did you get a waiver? Did you get a second opinion from a private optometrist? Thanks!
  14. Shout out to the Majs who made the board the last few years. Saw months ago there was a Maj in ENJJPT who snagged an A-10 slot. Wonder if they will still be giving those out if we make it.
  15. me calculating odds with 5 years TFCS
  16. Have individuals pass either one of three functional checks: 1) program Havequick II to a network of PRC-152A/163, those in-net pass. No help, no phone a friend. 2) >= pull-ups than SecDef (SecWar) and SecHHS 3) (bonus round, +1 star) build a functional drone operated by G/N/A/J-6 comm complaint standards, then take out someone else's drone with theirs
  17. The event should start with an early morning PT test.
  18. Hopefully the talk starts with, “2/3 of you will be walking out that door a civilian. TYFYS.”
  19. Not to crap on anyone but I think preparing a truly competitive package and meeting the needs of the Air Force will probably be what gets you through the door. And further more already being rated makes things super competitive for you already because as a rated officer, you don’t really get put in leadership positions until your what a captain? Most Lt’s in non rated jobs are OIC’s as second Lt’s. Additionally, the way you are selected for this board may be the same way OTS boards go. They could only have a certain number of slots needing to be filled and depending on your board score if you don’t have a good enough board score it may not get you over the threshold to get one of those slots. Example, I’ve seen some packages of people explaining all that they’ve done in their current career field and all the good they’ve done but not really highlight their potential in the new field their trying to get into. So yes there may be an increase in Lt selections, but what careers fields are those Lt’s in, how many of them are rated, how many of them actually led and demonstrated the ability to take on a level of increased responsibility.
  20. That's a lot of non-availability letters, at least 2 reams for the just the GOs. Can you imagine the line at the Inn? I say money/time well spent. Its about time someone held an open ranks inspection at the GO level. Then make em do a big beautiful parade. Then, GO Squid Game. 🤣
  21. Did some number crunching today because what else do I have to do for two months? The number of Lt pilot selects doubled from FY23 to FY24 (11-22) then again from FY24 to FY25 (22-46). Total pilots were 70 70 and 100. Lts got 24 of the additional 30 slots while captains only went up by 3 in FY25 (48-51). Also all the CSO selects were Lts. Seems like a trend towards selection of more Lts and perhaps more slots allocated to the younger year groups. I want to say years ago the reg was the 5 years TFCS instead of 8 so perhaps 3-6 years is a sweet spot for "potential" when they score.

  23. Live footage of a bob-quarters near you..
  24. Who's Senior Leader Qual'd and have the brass to arrive in that MDS/MWS!?
  25. 800 GOFOs? WTactualF...time for a large culling of the herd. Random thoughts: 1. The number of straphangers/peppergrinders that will also travel is going to be stunning. Aide(s), security details, comm teams, CAG directors or equivalants, etc, etc, etc. Pretty big airlift right there. And imagine finance having to deal with this during a government shutdown. Oh, the wailing and gnashing of teeth will be glorious... 2. Spare a thought for the 800 execs/aides/CAG directors, etc who are being mercilessly squeezed right now to find out WTF? Will bros in SECDEF/(SECWAR?) leak and take the risk? Somebody will undoubtedly, whether uniform or civilian. But the hours spent thrashing will also be glorious...pretty sure all business at 4-star places will this 24/7 to cover every possible contingency ("Prep a brief/note cards/talking points on XYZ x 1 million") Think of the wasted electrons... 3. NGB was told to chop GO billets as well. Wonder if the administration will target only certain states?
  26. For sure. I heard stories about some Generals breathing down the UFT Board President's neck (typically an O-6 Rated Officer) to make sure that certain individual(s) make the cut, completely bypassing merit and "whole person concept". But hey, that's the world we live in.
