BACN BD-700 / E11A
And yet we’re still pushing for that massive waste of money E-7. The concept of traditional large, manned C2 platforms has hit zero utility. And I mean it - zero. If there’s still a place for WDs and ABMs, it’s parsed out to other assets for specific scenarios (a couple in the back of a 46, MC-130, G6, etc.)

Yup One more example of the 6500 already having types for missions we need https://theaviationist.com/2025/09/30/kai-rokaf-electronic-warfare-aircraft-program/ All the work has been done https://bombardier.com/en/defense/virtual-showroom Disclaimer: I own 0.0 shares of Bombardier

arg you're asking a legitimate question to a dude who 95% of the time engages in nothing other than partisan reddit level quips. In general he's just not someone who engages in good faith discussions, although these days thats become par for the course on base ops regardless of affiliation

Oh, stop it. We turned it all around with the resoundingly successful T-7 acquisition.

Not entirely true. I had a type rating added with just a Form 8. Met the FSDO, brought my plastic card, showed him the Form 8 and went on my way. If memory serves me, folks like experimental test pilots can get ratings added with at least 10 hours PIC, but that I’m less sure of. Memory on that reg is hazy. Here’s the mil equivalent list.

Already have an AWACS version Skies MagBombardier Defense receives firm order for two Global 650...The Global 6500 aircraft has a top speed of Mach 0.90 and a maximum range of 6,600 nautical miles (12,223 kilometres).I swear the solutions are out there to so many problems, already done, but our FUBAR acquisitions process as represented here just makes it impossible unless the right districts get the right contracts…

Concur Unmanned air breathing and space based is the eventual solution but if king for a day I’d like a manned / unmanned team now, RQ- something plus the E-11 or something more ambitious, bigger manned jet maybe with links and active sensors, BACN plus AWACS. There’s an opportunity to coalesce around one manned platform type to get a lot of what we need, the Global 6500, could be that. BACN, AWACS, Medevac, Tactical Tanker, but I digress…. It’s also the platform the Army is using for it’s HADES jet, this could be one of the few joint platforms that could satisfy two chicks / services at the same time Two jets at the same time….

What's wrong with the Air Force?
Nah. Young men should not be held to the standard of old men. If it's empty, he's good.

2028…idiots. The concept/long term plan is fine, but the timing is impossible, assuming anyone gives a shit about not losing significant capabilities for years.

What's wrong with the Air Force?
I have no experience running a boat, but I wonder how much technical knowledge is required to be an effective commander? I can see this perspective to some extent; to use an AF comparison - no way should a non fighter-pilot run a fighter wing, other than in “extreme” manning emergency where a fighter pilot cannot be sourced at the time (and at min the non-FP is a combat oriented pilot). But, there are commands where really only leadership and decision making capability matter, and technical expertise is somewhat irrelevant (schools, ABW, etc.) I wonder which AF example boats are more comparable to. Exception: carriers should be commanded by pilots. The SWOs running them are just like shoe clerks - have no concept of who the mission is (supported vs. supporting).

The Next President is...
I appreciate hearing from those who critique actual policies and political positions of our elected representatives. It’s interesting to see such diverse takes from the same data, depending on one’s worldview. I’d argue that most of us are a little jaded from seeing the laws our elected officials pass and the bureaucrats who administer them, continuously do the expedient thing, rather than the correct for the long run thing. Then, when discussing the “other side”, tribalism with a touch of personal bias attached skews our view of things. I think most of us attempt to filter our bias to some degree. Personally the discussions here (at times) make me check my beliefs on geopolitical, financial, and social policy issues/topics. But having said that, I do appreciate a good street brawl on occasion about topics people feel passionate about even if I have no skin in the game.
