I got it wrong, the pastor and Hegseth BOTH said women not serve in combat roles. It is actually Hegseth who in his book questioned if women should serve at all. On women in service, Hegseth wrote in his book that “women cannot physically meet the same standards as men” and that “Dads push us to take risks. Moms put the training wheels on our bikes. We need moms. But not in the military, especially in combat units.” With regard to the pastor, he also said women should not be able to vote. Have you watched the actual video Hegseth posted? Go to 3:26, the executive pastor in that video calls for the 19th amendment to be repealed. Pentagon chief spokesman Sean Parnell told The Associated Press on Friday that Hegseth is “a proud member of a church” that is affiliated with CREC and he “very much appreciates many of Mr. Wilson’s writings and teachings.” All better now, you guys are right, he sounds like a great guy to endorse, and bring to the Pentagon to lead prayers. Absolutely nothing wrong with SECDEF posting videos that call for the 19th amendment to be repealed.

hey springer! yeah, I fly in Kona right now and its great, but I think im gonna be flying on Oahu after college (where I live). I have looked at places on the west coast but some are just as expensive or even more. maybe im just not looking good enough, but from my experience in Kona, rent, groceries, etc. is no joke which is why im leaning more towards going to a school where I live so I only have to worry about paying for flight lessons.

dude id love to; ive heard that's also beneficial for UPT. maybe sometime in the future after I get my GA ratings ill look into that.
-
Out of curiosity where are you learning to fly? Hawaii?
-
Go fly aerobatics. Fly anything you can get your hands on.
-
Kamaka Air thankfully only requires up to CPL and a deal if you work at the front desk with them for at least 6 months, they will hire you. I am interested in flying for HA if I was a part-time raptor guy, but then again that's not my motive for all this. I do see where you're coming from though. I definitely dont want to go into a shitload of debt, but am willing to if it gives me a better chance at coming back. thanks for your 0.02 cents brabus. always appreciated sir!

I definitely dont have the funds but im hoping to got on the next 6 monther coming up so I can qualify for the GI Bill. thanks for the information brody. CFII just became more favorable.

Can’t find anything that supports that claim. He is opposed to combat roles and other certain areas (e.g. no women on subs). I watched the interview and searched around (but if I missed it in my googling, let me know).

Initial Pilot Training and Future Pilot Training
WheelsOff replied to LookieRookie's topic in General Discussion
Sadly, this is the way. This is likely the only card we have left to play at this point to shed enough light on the problem in order to turn things around enough so that we don’t get our cheeks clapped in WW3. -
Gender differences ≠ Racial differences. So let's just skip that diversion. We already discriminate based on gender in the military. And we should. The extent to which we do so is a valid debate. Also, reposting something does not equal endorsing every word of an interview. As I said, I wish our leaders wouldn't post/repost/share anything, but they do. If Hegseth says he believes women should not serve, then you have a point. Hell, if he refuses to answer, even then you have a point. Right now you do not. Call it lunacy all you want. We will *never* have a functional government by this standard. I think it's lunacy to believe that gay people will go to hell. I also think it's lunacy to believe that gay parents are a drop-in substitute for straight parents. Every belief is absurd to someone. But he did not voice an opinion about women serving or not serving. *You* think it's wrong. Which is worse? Saying women shouldn't serve, or promoting seizing the means of production? What about hate speech laws? Affirmative action? How many people would die if we "turn the clock back 77 years" and ban women from military service versus legalizing all drugs? Is a discriminatory belief less acceptable than a fatal belief? It's just hypothetical, since PetSouth has never said that women should be banned from serving. Overturning RvW was the constitutional answer. Period. So now that's a step on the slippery slope? Also, could you elaborate on the gay marriage to Jews continuum? Not going to lie, watching you lump disparate issues together like this is making you sound more like Sotomayor then Alito. If we shouldn't have a Secretary of defense that would roll back women serving in the military, do you also suggest that we shouldn't have supreme Court justices that would (did) roll back Roe v Wade? Do we appoint a new Arbiter of Acceptable Opinions, or do we just rely on the first amendment and let the voters to decide? I already told you I agreed with you on Signal (that it is a fire-able offense, not that he *should* be fired), but we are talking specifically about this Twitter post. I won't make so broad a statement, but again, if Pete Hegseth actually advocates for banning women from the military, then I will agree that he is the wrong person to run the DoD. But he hasn't done that, regardless of how much I disagree with him retweeting a ridiculous interview.

Correct, Wilsbach’s standards push in ACC was well before Trump was even elected and 99% of people even heard of Hegseth.

Yes. Very well said

Keep in mind you'll need 250 hrs for a commercial, which is going to cost a shitload, especially in Hawaii. Additional hours may be required for a specific company’s mins. I would go down this road only if professional flying outside the AF is a desirable career. Doing all of that just to boost your ANG app or UPT performance (I watched CFIs do great and horribly in UPT) is not a great reason by itself. Definitely get your PPL and continue to learn, just make sure you only go into a shitload of flight training debt for logical reasons.

Funny thing was that crap was already in the colon ready to shit on the troops before the administration change. They have lost sight of the forest for the trees. Yet can’t figure out why we keep doing dumb things with airplanes….that mess we all knew was coming 6-9 years ago when it was proposed. I’ll just take comfort in my 214 blanket knowing that it doesn’t matter to me anymore… but then who would have listened then anyway?

certainly one way to describe boot-height regs and open-ranks inspections

IMHO If you have the funds, go CFII until you have ATP minimums and then try to get on board at an airline. You can get paid as a CFII (not much money but plenty of hours and knowledge gained from instructing new pilots) while waiting for a regional or mainline company to hire you. Continue to apply for the USAF during the process of becoming a professional pilot. The few CFIIs I knew did a little better at UPT and the regionals (RIP Compass).

what's up y'all! I am in the process of getting my PPL and I absolutely love flying, and will be continuing after I finish college; however, I am stuck between the two options listed above in the title. Ive heard so many different stories of how having time before going to UPT is good because you have a good idea of how to do things, or how it can also be bad due to unlearning civilian flying habits. it seems to me like most of our guys at the 199th FS had time before going to UPT such as Skywest, HA pilot, CFI, charter airline, and I definitely think i'm gonna jump on that train. I understand that Uncle Sam would be paying for those ratings and it would be a waste of money, but I want to ensure I comeback to the squadron if I ever got picked up by these guys. I don't really care about how much hours I'll accrue, but rather which skills will transfer over to UPT more. if I trained students as a CFI/CFII, I feel like VFR and IFR flying will be engrained in my head which I think will be good? However, I will mainly be teaching and not flying meaning I could possibly lose the flying hands? I also think CFI flying will look better on a resume then charter/cargo flying. On the other hand, I have buddies who are also trying to fly for the 199th that fly for kamaka air (the charter/cargo airline im talking about) who said they would vouch for me if I ever tried to fly for them. It probably would be an easier way to gain hours, and I would actually be flying, however, its less focused on maneuvers, etc. I would appreciate any thoughts you guys have! Thanks in advance!🤙

Probably not in this case. Likely the flight lead's local callsign. Possibly bought at an LPA sponsored callsign auction after upgrade/joining the unit.

Weird flex to advocate for taking religious beliefs into account for job retention. Seems like there's something written somewhere about that... Also https://justthenews.com/government/security/pentagon-says-female-military-recruitment-all-service-branches-report

You might listen then pass judgement, the dude Hegseth is not just supporting but REPOSTING, openly professes women should be barred from service...not just combat service, but military service. Would you think differently if the Secretary of the treasury was posting content that said black people should not get government backed loans? When a senate confirmed cabinet secretary start posting content suggesting we discriminate based on race, gender or ideology then it is not a matter of me disagreeing with a belief. Concur, but that isn't happening and until it does, voicing opinions like that while sitting in office, particularly an office that has the power to impose discriminating policies is lunacy. I don't think they are all crazy, but most of them are. I don't expect them to all have the "right" answer. We are a country founded on a vision of long debate and I support that debate in the right context. That being said, it is wrong for the sitting SECDEF to try and turn the clock back 77 years and discriminate against women because of his religious beliefs. I don't think they are either, but this is a very slippery slope the GOP is on. The overturned Roe v Wade, the gay rights/ gay marriage case is back before SCOTUS and you know the homophobic far-right is salivating to end gay marriage. What is next? The Jews? Apples to oranges...RFK and Johnson are loons, but what they said/did was not illegal. Hegseth's actions were clearly illegal. What would have happened to any one of us lowly people had we put classified info on Signal? I'd rather settle on accountability culture. Break the law, be punished like everyone else. Advocate for bias or discrimination while in an office of power...resign.
