  1. There ain’t many. That’s been one of my issues with this thing on AFSOC the whole time. The Bob’s at corporate are only interested in IFF graduates to fly it. Why? You aren’t going to be employing the thing in BFM. You aren’t going to be doing ACM. You are going to be sitting in the CAS wheel and doing strikes. If only there was some AFSOC aircraft with that skill set...

  2. Isn't the Air Force trying to grow it's way out of a pilot shortage? No, don't get up. I'll show myself out...

  4. Delta is 12 months or 400hrs, and 3 CPO new hire meetings. The last was added because in my hiring timeframe we weren't sitting reserve ever and guys were flying green slips (double pay trips) galore! Mil pay wasn't even close to what we were making working half the time. It was awesome, but guys/gals were hitting 400hrs a couple of months in so the company changed it a bit to keep us on probation a bit longer. I think if I remember it's a meeting every quarter. As far as those close to hitting a full AD retirement, sure I can understand dropping the mil leave required to get the 20 AD years, but anything more it's exactly like you said, you are losing money and a ton of it! My second year I dropped a ton of mil (days at a time not long term) trying to fly and stay current and eventually qualified due to mx issues. Flew 3x in 6+ months because of mx but had dropped a lot of airline trips. It cost me a massive amount of money that year plus when our profit sharing came that was a double whammy... Even though I was home every night, the amount of work I was doing compared to at the airlines was ridiculous. Even my wife was fed up with it. Now I don't fly for the AF anymore and instead do ground work. Couldn't be happier! I fly enough for the airlines and work my mil around it.

  5. Yeah but in my welfare state, if you are a garbage man at age 25, you are a garbage man until 65 (age rises yearly to keep up with lack of welfare state pension funds) when you have enough work service to collect your 2,000 euro or less pension per month. Want to work longer? Too bad, mandatory retirement to make space for new garbage men in the workforce. Want to get a job on the side to supplement your measly state pension? No way, if you do that you lose your pension because you are double dipping. So enjoy your retirement in your cozy 800 sq ft European apartment and 100hp $7per gallon diesel car that you can’t afford insurance on. Maybe you can hit the overcrowded beaches and mountains with your fellow Europeans competing for limited resources. At least you get free sub-par healthcare along with the immigrants. N/A for the politicians who vote themselves the resources of the people. Hmmm, sounds a bit like socialism-lite, the democrat dream. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

  7. They will extend your ADSC to Sep 2022. Had a former sq/cc who did this and decided he'd rather retire and wanted to completely give up the transfer benefits (about a year after he transferred) - they denied it and he's been stuck past 20 for a year or so now.

  9. Wow. Sounds like the pilots got out safe. Every UPT base now has had a T-38 mishap in the last year or so now, right?

  12. I mean just look at him He is offering to help and you're asking why him and not you. That could be a hint? But besides that, it seems you both have similar scores and hours, with John being a prior service guy and possible at that squadron ( I hope I got that right?). That whole person concept seems to be swinging in his favor just based off that comment you made. I didn't even apply to Duluth but now I wish I did so I would have a chance to meet John hahaha.

  13. There are ongoing efforts to acquire systems with greater standoff that our partners can employ cheaply.

  14. This might be a crazy idea.... but maybe stop committing to weapon systems that to properly employ puts you well within the WEZ of every ground based unguided weapon system you can expect to encounter. Seriously... what is it with people thinking getting into an 50 cal vs Dshk/ZPU knife fight is fun. It’s suicidal the second the other guy has any actual training or the number of systems necessary to set up barrage/curtain fire. You’re basically hoping it’s just another dumbass in a man dress who tries to use short burst aimed fire at a 250 knot aircraft. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  15. Proposal I've seen is to add a T-6 Phase 3 for those headed to turbo props (U-28, C-130, AT-X, etc). With the emphasis being on navigation, formation, and night flying.

  16. Valid. I was referring more to the younger O-3/O-4 types getting out at the 10-12 year point referenced above. For the younger dudes it will be really hard to justify doing a 3+ year AGR after the first year.

  17. But in this specific line of discussion, those U.S. idiots who major it art and are washing dishes screwed themselves and it's their mess to clean up (financially), as it should be. In Europe those same idiots who chose an art degree and are now washing dishes got a free ride courtesy of the tax payers. As a taxpayer, the hell if I'm paying for an art or history degree, I will however be OK if some of my taxes pay for somebody to become an electrician, plumber, etc. That's technical training that will directly benefit society and they'll contribute to the work force in a manner consistent with their education (vs. getting an expensive, useless degree and only contributing to the labor market in the same manner a high school student could).

  18. "No issues for them" but how about those who hope to follow them. I'd think a little bit about dropping that grenade at the bottom of the ladder and pulling it up behind you just to avoid being junior. If you get activated, that's different. If you go into it planning to walk away after day one of indoc or after probation is over, you stand to hose a lot of buds who may be trying to follow your path. Maybe you'll be a number lost in the current hiring wave at some of the biggies - maybe not. It's been a clear trend over the last few years at FedEx (maybe other airlines - can't say for certain) that their enthusiasm for hiring current guard/reserve pilots has diminished significantly. USERRA protects current employees - it doesn't guarantee someone will get hired if a particular airline has had enough of their current pilots dropping 5 years of orders. Not too difficult to find a reason not to hire someone without admitting it might be to avoid hiring an empty uniform for the next 5 years. Just food for thought.
