I talked to Matt's father on Wednesday.  They knew what the sentence would be and were ready for it to be over with so this Stephenson could get on with spending the rest of his miserable days behind

That day was today for that piece of trash. He was found guilty of multiple charges. His sentencing is 3 July.    https://kdvr.com/news/local/man-found-guilty-of-murder-in-dui-crash-that-killed

I'm just shocked to read these news. I corresponded with him last year when he wanted to pick my brain about follow-on assignments to the AETC world. I recall him recently posting about PIT dates in the future, appeared excited about it, which made me feel great based on our conversation about it a year ago. Truly heartbreaking.

I second the call above, those who knew him closely, please do let us know what/anything as on online usaf community can do to help/outreach.

Damn. My last PM on here was from him 8 days ago, replying to a message I sent him in response to a post about lodging options in SA for PIT. Seemed like a great dude.

Life is short. 🥃

Terrible to hear about Macho. Great dude and while I surely didn’t know him as well as others here, I enjoyed the times I worked with him and all of our conversations throughout the last several years. RIP dude.

RIP to Matt, if y'all can, please donate to help his family out. Luckily I just saw that the Special Operations Warrior Foundation will be taking are of all of his kids' educational expenses from here on out. SOWF is one of my absolute favorite charities to donate to and support, and I encourage you to do that too if you can.

I hadn't seen that, but he's absolutely deserving.  Macho was a true hero.

Damn, sorry to hear this 🍺

Just saw this thread a couple of days ago while out of town. I certainly enjoyed his comments and dry humor on B.O. over the years. Gone far too soon and for the most tragic of reasons.

Anything less than life in prison is bullshit. I’d prefer immediate death - maybe general pop can help with that.

Fuck the twat who isn’t man enough to accept all that he deserves. He needs to be sent to solitary to serve out the rest of his pathetic life. Also, fuck his pissant defense attorney. I hope that guy is met with misfortune everyday for not having any sense of true justice and morality. I’m all for due process, but GMAFB.

Repeat drunk driver hammered off his ass middle of the day and driving to get more booze, that's who killed one of the finest warriors and family men produced by the USA.  He won't last.

Matt made so many people better during his too short time here, we'd all be lucky to have the same said for us.  Life is precious, enjoy every minute with your loved ones.

Danger41, like the rest of us, put on a uniform to defend ideals. One of which is the right to have the assistance of counsel for his defense. Let's not forget that.

I hope the drunk piece of shit rots in prison, and he should be man enough to plead guilty for his crimes, but his attorney is doing the job I hope he would do for you or me if we were on trial.

I understand what you’re saying, and mostly agree regarding the principles you’re alluding to.

That being said: I don’t subscribe to the notion that public defenders should be compelled to represent. I will never be on trial for being 3x over the legal limit and killing innocent people. I don’t see a world where this heinous act is morally defensible…so I don’t hope for the world to come to my defense.

I am being somewhat tongue in cheek…but the court could benefit from implementing a time-tested methodology called “instant justice.” They can visit their local fighter squadron for more information.

Buddy, trust me when I tell say you can never be sure what you'll be on trial for.

I understand and feel the rage, but this is literally core to being American. Anyways, enough said. We lost one of our best, and we are all worse of for it. The donation link for the family is still active.

I don’t need to trust anything. There isn’t a scenario that exists where I drink myself to a .21 BAC and then go drive and kill someone and cause grievous bodily harm to others. I have said my peace, and concede enough said.

All of us are innocent before the law until proven guilty.

The DUI shit drives me crazy.  I was young and stupid and might possibly have driven when I shouldn't have.  I grew out of it quickly.  I saw a court case on YT where the lady who was 40+ was in court for her TENTH DUI.  She was pleading for leniency.  Think how often that bitch drives drunk if she has gotten caught 10 times.

DUI/DWI penalties, especially for repeat offenders and first time offenders resulting in severe bodily harm/death, need to be multiple orders of magnitude worse. It is despicable how little punishment DUI offenders receive. Screw all the judges who just throw them back into the world with zero fucks given.
