Yes.  AI is a big deal.  We don't want to come in second in the race for AI dominance.  

Edit: I don't think it's a big deal.  I mean we have NASA for space exploration.  AI and soon AGI will bring an insane amount of change to society.  The kind of change that people will kill for.
