Was just going off of real clear politics website, maybe my math was off.

You are correct that it is the new House, however you missed the part about each state gets a single vote.  "But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote;" (12th Amendment).  I don't care how close the House is, when California (normally 54 electoral votes) gets entirely canceled out by Wyoming (normally 3 electoral votes), zero chance the Dems win.

Edit to add: They can't delay past March or the VP becomes the President and clearly the Republicans wouldn't delay to effectively choose her.

Yes, 1 vote per state.  If it goes to March, it's not the old VP, but rather the new VP selected by the Senate.  So, there is a slim chance that Vance could be Prez based off a tie, the new house is stalemate, and the anticipated R majority for the Senate picking Vance as VP .  IF all of that were to happen, look for Trump to bash the shit out of the process, slam Vance for taking the job, then ask to be Vance's VP.

I thought we don't trust the media, and in this case, a student from Florida Gulf Coast U.

In a Rumsfeldian voice, You don't go to an election with the Electorial College you want, you go with the college you got.

While I still believe the slight advantage goes to Trump, and as I said before, I won’t be surprised if either one wins…but…if there’s a 20 point swing towards Trump in Georgia among independents compared to 2020, then that says something.

You win! Was just about to respond to the original prompt of this thread from 8 years ago! Still waiting for some type of shinanigans.

Oh it will happen, what it will be is yet  to be seen yet.
Thankfully we can now be unburdened by what has not been.

But it's so much more than that. First (R) president to win the popular vote in two decades. An indisputable electoral college victory. Huge gains within minority groups. Retaking the Senate and most likely holding the House.

It's the closest thing to a mandate a presidential candidate can win in the modern era. This will greatly reduce "the resistance," especially from within the conservative sphere as many will be forced to reevaluate their future and strategy.

It's still a tragedy that we're in a point in history where Donald Trump is the leader of the free world, but it's as good as the tragedy could have gone.

We're still on a collision course with fiscal and monetary doom, but perhaps we can at least put out some fires.

I'm so happy that Sherrod Brown lost.  He was one of crypto's big detractors and that sector got a nice bump last night.

I’m very happy that Kamala Harris will not be president. Not pumped it’s Trump again, and I even voted in a primary for the first time in my life to try to make that not be the case, but here we are.

Since Trump became the nominee I waffled between going third party, not voting, or voting for him. Turns out the third party candidates were awful, not voting seemed kind of pointless, and frankly voting for him was better than any of the insanity still coming from the left these days.

With Trump winning the popular vote and his gains in dark blue areas, I think there were a lot of voters like me out there. The win is not necessarily a ringing endorsement of Trump, but more a rejection of Harris/Biden and the disaster of the last 4 years.

I hope Trump governs sensibly, we see a great 4 years, and he sets the table for a quality center/right candidate from the R side that the country can rally around in 2028. I’ll be very interested to see how the Dems respond to this. Do they try and claw back to the center or do they continue on their batshit social ideas and TDS binge?

Agreed. Overall the GOP handed the Dems their ass in this cycle. This is a referendum on the Dems and their bowing to the insane progressives the last several years. I am glad the GOP has total control for now, BUT I do not like that long term. I sincerely hope the Dems actually learn from their colossal mistakes over the last several years and move back towards the center with reasonable candidates. Maybe we can get back to a more balanced fed govt in 4-8 years, I hope.

The Dems stepped in it again by shoving a candidate down America's throat.  They should have kicked Biden out a year ago.  Or held an open convention when he finally yielded.  The Ds haven't learned yet and I doubt they will change.  Anytime one opens their mouth, the reply should be, their actions got Trump reelected.

I 99.9% do not expect Trump to govern sensibility.  All he will have is Yes Men, lots of gorgeous and beautiful Yes Men, the best Yes Men in America. They're going to say yes so much, they'll get tired of saying it.

Ukraine might be fucked, pending EU support in lieu of ours, unless Zelenski praises the shit out Don with lots of flattery.

Get ready for a trade war with Chiner if Trump gets his way.  Might be time to rebalance the ol portfolio.  That must be why Warren Buffet has been dumping Apple, etc and going cash.  I'm gonna snag that new TV at costco this week.

Last I saw, House is still not decided.  If Ds get it, that might a sufficient roadblock to crazy shit. Probably not.

Some of you might have gotten an AP/Fox poll a few days ago.  I dediced to open and play along.  Sure enough, 1st Q was on biggest issue and Democracy was a choice.  Yesterday, I saw soundbites from that poll in the news.  Future of Democracy was the top issue.  Abortion was towards the bottom, and Foreign Policy was last.

In my calendar, I noted the cost of a gallon of 87 Unleaded for today; $2.66.  I'll report back next year.  I don't see govt really manipulating that item as well as campaign slogans say they can, but that's what Americans want.

Oh, and there's a pesky little criminal sentence that's pending for Trump, of which he can't pardon himself as it's state level.  That little circus deserves some popcorn.

BODNers, thanks for playing in Election 2024, it's been interesting.

<snip>

Sadly, a lot of those tears I saw/heard were based on the person being extremely naïve about the subject (because they've been listening to their team's radio station).  For example, the knee-jerk reactions of multiple-pierced nut jobs, saying they will get pregnant as often as possible, so they can have as many abortions as they can.  Or the same group crying, because Orange man is going to ban contraceptives too.

Fortunately, this is a little like mowing my lawn yesterday, it was very dusty, but I knew that it would eventually die down and blow away in the wind.  The good news, is that KH will soon fade into obscurity, along with her cryin' man (Walz), who will go back to doing the job some Minnesotans hired him for.
