M2 Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Speculation is he leaned out the door to check the right gear malfunction and accidentally fell as he was untethered... https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/family-of-pilot-who-died-after-exiting-plane-during-mid-flight-emergency-left-reeling-father-says/ar-AA109ZqZ

Biff_T Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 He used to work as a roadie for Jethro Tull. This is why he was fired. In all seriousness. This guy will have a fun time in prison.

Barring further evidence coming to light, the most likely working theory is that this was an attempt to visually check the damaged right main while in flight, gone horribly wrong. Anyone who has ever been anywhere near an open Herc ramp in flight, wouldn't think of doing so without a harness attached. 1

And in semi-related news - airforcetimes is clearly hitting on all cylinders today, with this headline, "5 military movies that would be better with Velociraptors." Not sure if that's a good thing or not (might be).

Based on the ADS-B track, CP was on his third training sortie. Started with a jump run, went to the pattern, two circuits, then headed for RDU and declared, implying the second bounce went wrong (hard landing, etc). Ref: video I'd posted earlier

I like the way you think but I was envisioning the flute being shoved from the opposite direction, feed the douchebag beans, and have him blow Mozarts Magic Flute out of his ass. Punishment with classical music appreciation and education all rolled into one. 1
Sim Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Reminder that "he" is from CA. So reward will be a medal for his degenerate behavior and a long line of parents to "groom" their kids. 2 1

brabus Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 That’s pretty solid evidence it was suicide, unless the pilot is completely lying to ATC, but doesn’t seem like it.
