  1. @Pooter Good points, especially #3. A new guy without a family in my neck of the woods is making $25/hr (assuming 40 hr week shoe clerk), in the 12% tax bracket, has free & comprehensive health care, 4 years in has a solid GI Bill to use, gaining good resume-building experience, potentially had an enlistment bonus, and more. I’m not arguing they shouldn’t be paid more, but how about some people show me all the other options for an 18 yr old with zero skills that beat this deal.
  2. It’s a valid point!
  3. Absolutely possible, but low chance of success. How: Rush units and convince them to hire you and secure the required T-38 TX, IFF, and B-Course training spots. Why it’s hard: well why does a unit want to risk a heavy guy making it through all that when they can hire dudes that don’t need any of those courses and are already fighter experienced? Also, that’s 1.5-2 yrs in a pipeline as an “old” guy that the unit doesn’t get shit out of you. Then when you’re done with training, you’re a “pretty old” guy basically starting at the beginning and less useful than the 25-28 yr old LT/Capt. Rush less desirable units (location, politics, etc) and you’ll have a better shot, but that really probably means you went from .05 PK to .1 PK. Thats the reality - not saying don’t go for it, but chance of success is very slim.
  4. Don’t take the bonus, go guard…i will bet you $1B 15 years from now you’ll look back and be incredibly happy you went that route.
  5. Hey, even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while. I’m waiting for when the hallway of nut-dragging broken glass appears, then this shit is over and it’s back to Big D I go!
  6. Get out, get a line number, piece together full time orders to make up 6 years…or you may end up deciding not to go for the FT retirement. Maybe it sounds crazy now, but it won’t sound so crazy once you’ve tasted life outside the mil (not to mention 6 years at the airline will massively outpace a mil retirement earnings-wise).

For sure. I have many NFA items, not a noob at this. I think it’s still important to highlight a pic of only the SERNO is required, no benefit to giving more than that. Simple and only exactly what is asked for/required is the best way to go about these things (same when interacting with any local or fed agency). I only write this stuff for the benefit of the guy who will read this before his initial foray into NFA items.
  8. I didn’t misspeak…the strike guys know exactly what I’m referring to.
  9. Definitely a strike eagle guy.
  10. Dude, you lost credibility by making this blanket statement that apparently applies to every officer. Sure there are shitty ones, but in my entire career I’ve seen maybe one or two that meet this criteria of truly fucking over enlisted for personal gain. I know there’s more out there than one or two, but you acting like it’s a large portion is ridiculous. You mean the things a guy earned via years of hard work and sacrifice? Just because someone is deemed successful doesn’t mean they’re a POS and/or didn’t earn it. Unless you’re a retarded progressive, then that irrational thought probably does make sense. Again, painting with that broad brush only destroys your credibility, not someone else’s.

@M2 I don’t disagree, but I also will never give more than the bare min required when dealing with any gov agency or individual. I generally have thought it’d be fairly unlikely they’d prosecute you even with photo evidence you are in possession of an assembled SBR without permission (e.g. felony). But, I’ve watched this admin put a guy in jail for 14 years because he threw a chair at a cop (translation: political opponent). Soooo, I’d say it’s prudent to give as little as possible.
  12. TPS is probably your only route to fly a fighter. Teach UPT and/or get into the U-2 or B-2 as other options to fly 38s…but you should be going to those because you want to fly those aircraft/missions, not as an alternate way to go fly a 38. Anything beyond what I just mentioned might as well be purged from your mind, ain’t going to happen on AD, and still very small odds in the guard.
  13. Don’t think for a second UPT has the market cornered on that gameplan!
  14. All of them.

I did one a couple months ago for this, same process as the other Form 1s I’ve done. Fingerprints submitted. Definitely requires CLEO info on the form, I was just highlighting you don’t have to inform CLEO if filing as an individual. except M2 stated “a photo of the owner holding the firearm” - that could definitely be incriminating, and is what I was referring too. Completely agree the only photo required is of the SERNO.

Or just submit fingerprints instead of a possibly incriminating picture. Also for clarity to the uninitiated, you don’t have to alert local CLEO if filing as an individual (but you do if filing as a trust). Now get out there and get that free SBR!
  17. The progressive arm of the Dem party are the most regressive group in our history. I can’t think of another time we actually went drastically backwards in American society. By the way, dems are calling for segregated classrooms, etc. in 2023…they’ve literally regressed past 60 years of societal advancement.
  18. @WTFAF As I’ll continue to say, if we were as bad at our jobs as they are at theirs, there’d be about 5 pilots over 25 yo still alive, and the Euro “air show-only” air forces would look like rockstar tacticians compared to us. Thank God we actually give a fuck about succeeding and not being miserable failures.
  19. Good to hear someone has balls to make the call at least every once in a while. Sounds like a douche getting exactly what was coming his way.
  20. He should be in prison - fuck that guy.
  21. The last guy in my class got FAIP, even though we also had heard you needed to be in top half. So, don’t count that one as a hard line in the sand!
  22. Legendary troll status…and 100% valid.
  23. I love your enthusiasm. I think unsupervised use of a sim without direct context from a UPT IP, no matter how much you try to follow some YouTube video, is not going to make a difference, and at worse could unintentionally build some bad habits you’ll have to break. I also CFI in civ world, and even there sims have their utility, but when I get a guy who’s done “no context” flying with MS Sim or something like that, it 100% has not helped, and in fact has usually hurt as I come upon mistakes that they self-reinforced while using a sim environment. Do the sim because you have fun with it, but don’t expect it to be a measurable help in prep for UPT.
  24. Historically, yes. But keep in mind there were several years where half the class got heavies/FAIP. It was a weird period for ENJJPT for sure, but things happen. Fighters aren’t a guarantee for any young lurkers reading this.
  25. @SocialD I know two people who “retired,” and months later were told, “sorry, we messed up when we thought 2+3=7, so you still owe 2 more months of duty to retire. See you on Sat for drill! Oh, and you’re also overdue for a PT test, plus you might as well expect a piss test too”
