Even in the pre-9/11 USMC, vertical holsters (hip for SNCOs and Os, thigh for Ricky Recons, shoulder for aircrew) were required. Couldn't tell you where it was written, though, and it's probably been OBE numerous times anyway.

Sikorsky X2 - one LHTEC T800-LHT-801, ~1500shp Eurocopter X3 - two RTM322, ~2200shp each It took Eurocopter (soon to be Airbus Helicopter, for your daily dose of aviation trivia) 3 times the power, and probably 3 times the fuel burn, to make a whopping 5kts over the X2. Not impressed. Edit: Yes, I'm aware that the X3 actually has a cabin that could possibly be put to use, as opposed to the X2 that doesn't even have the option of a second seating position. I'm biased, sue me.

HMX got rid of their -46s and replaced them with -22s, just like what the rest of the Air Wing is doing. IIRC, the -22 won't safely fit on the South Lawn LZ, so you won't likely see POTUS riding in one.

I've watched a few episodes, basically because I'll watch just about anything aviation-related at least once, and I actually have first-hand experience with an aircraft repossession (actually it was a helicopter, but the principle is the same). Plenty of manufactured drama, just like any other "reality" show, but mildly entertaining.

As noted here a couple times... Matterhorn, by Karl Marlantes. Technically fiction, but the author states it's pretty much a first-hand account of his Vietnam experiences. One I'm a little hesitant to recommend is Sympathy For The Devil by Kent Anderson. Again, technically fiction, but supposed to be based on the author's Vietnam experiences as a Green Beret. Hopefully it's loosely based on those experiences; if you read it and make it through the ending, you'll understand both my "loosely based" hopes and my hesitation to recommend.

Not quite as good as getting a shit-ton of money back from AMEX, but... If you're in the Atlanta area with your family/kids and have some time to kill, the Georgia Aquarium, The Children's Museum of Atlanta, and the SkyView Atlanta (new, big-ass Ferris wheel in Centennial Park) offer a .mil discount for the whole family.

PA gun laws in a nutshell: - Open carry is legal in PA. Not highly advised in Philadelphia (Philly PD has some "issues"; this is one), but legal. - PA is a "shall issue" state WRT concealed carry. Fill out the application, pay the fee, get your LTCF. Easy peasy. - No FOID cards or any other "Mother may I?" bullshit required to purchase or possess guns & ammo. PA housing will, generally, always be less expensive than NJ housing. NJ has outrageous property and school taxes. They used to be the highest in the US; not sure where they are now, but likely still in the top 5. NJ does has some beautiful beaches to visit in the summer (even after Sandy had her way with them last year), which you'll pay for the privilege of enjoying. The further north you go in NJ, the more like NY it becomes... which IMO is not a good thing. Disclaimer: I was born & raised in PA, so I am a little biased...

Since you're using it as a discriminator... WRI - Live in PA, commute to the Quagmire (as little as 30min drive); avoid NJ at all other times. NJ gun laws do not affect you. SUU - Can't really live outside CA as an AD guy. CA gun laws own you.

I'm pretty sure that if detecting buried IEDs was as easy as you're implying here, we'd probably have several thousand fewer casualties in OEF/OIF. Just sayin'.

We've had several pilots from my SQ and the SQ down the hall claim sanctuary over the past few years. Judging by their comments, you will definitely have to learn the personnelist's job (and the appropriate regs) better than them.
