  1. We've hired a couple former fighter guys in the last couple years; I'm guessing they're the ones who started popping the jalapeno corn in our SQ within the last year or so. I've never been big on hot sauce, hot peppers, super-spicy wings, etc... but that jalapeno corn is like crack in a paper bag. If I ever get a popcorn machine at home, it's on...
  2. Interesting read. The parts relevant to the current nuke force discussion are quoted below (emphasis is mine)... An ICBM officer recalls 9/11
  3. [swerves out of own lane] So what you're saying is... You don't see a problem with an on-base MWR activity confiscating someone's personal property, and then not returning it? Interesting. [back into my lane]
  4. Good to see they weren't needed. Also, good unannounced mass casualty drill for the .civ EMS providers around Hanscom...
  5. That could just as easily be from WRI. It's only a matter of time before metal is bent and lives are lost, when a flying Wing's priorities have things like travel vouchers and Fit To Fight as higher priorities than the flying. edit: spelling is hard
  6. I really hope LtCol TaterTots is escorted to the door when all this force shaping is said and done. It's mind-boggling how clueless she was/is, and how rampant her POV seems to be in the AF nuke world.
  7. If you're gonna go that far, might as well make 'em 28-day orders. No expensive Tricare for family members to pay for. edit: Damn, probably shouldn't give them any ideas...
  8. The Navy also has a large number of Reservists in IMA billets, which could account for the large numbers of individual mobilizations. Then again, that was true in the late '90s/early '00s; things may have changed since then... The AFRC KC-10 community has been in a partial mobilization for over 2 years now, so we're all used to the "individual" involuntary mobilizations. I personally don't mind this too much, because we have enough volunteerism in my SQ in general (and the boom shop in particular) that we can, to some extent, pick and choose when we deploy and who we crew with. So for 80-89 days, I'm making a full-up AD paycheck with AD bennies. Other AFRC -10 folks disagree, for their own reasons. Some disagreed so much with this mobilization that they voted with their feet and retired/separated. Now if this conceptual iWing AD leadership management were to put me on an 89-day order, have me off orders for a day or two, then put me on another 89-day order, lather, rinse, repeat for the next X years... that would be as fucked up as a football bat. That would be my definition of an AD level of committment, for TR pay & benefits.
  9. If this comes to pass... I'm out. I will not work an AD-level of committment for anything less than a full-up AD paycheck and AD benefits. I don't work off the clock at my .civ job; I sure as shit won't do it at my .mil job. edit: fix quote
  10. Deaddebate, I gotta thank you. No matter how hard I try, I just cannot force myself to read through (or watch) all that political shit and find the "good stuff", even though I am well aware of how important it truly is. Thanks for doing it.
  11. Pretty sure the -135 was designed with the 8010-style mission at the forefront of Boeing's minds. As the Advanced Tanker/Cargo Aircraft, the -10 was not. We've got approved configurations for the AE mission. TACC not using us for it, ain't our fault.
  12. I've got news from the trenches for you: standardized morale patches are not morale patches, they're just one more piece of flair we're required to wear and maintain. The morale comes from the small "freestyle expression of individual taste and humor" within the required conformity to the uniform that we all get to wear. No one is saying we should be able to wear a "morale" SQ patch with, for example, photorealistic genitalia on it, or a pen tab patch that says "FUCK _______". The vast majority of us get it; those things are in poor taste, regardless of how funny they may be in a specific situation/location. Let those of us who "get it" police the ones who don't - THAT is leadership. Is the thought of allowing someone to choose to wear a pen tab patch with their college logo, or a silhouette of their jet, or has "IHRB" embroidered on a piece of disco belt, or some other patch that hasn't been run through the SSS chop chain, truly that offensive to the current AF management?
  13. I'm Reserve. No, they didn't say specifically... but I'm pretty sure Kenny Powers got it right [below]. I get the same UTA/AFTP numbers, and like you, I don't always use UTA days on the actual UTA weekend.
  14. We were told the same thing at December UTA: Jan UTA reschedules would be nearly impossible and would invite much scrutiny, due to budget/funding issues. OG or WG directed, to all the SQs.
  15. The issue with double-posting is happening again. I noticed it, and a few others have commented (in other threads) on it as well. Still on my desktop machine - WinVista, IE9. edit: Previously, when returning to the "View New Content" screen (by using the back button) from a thread in the forums, the content would update itself, with threads I had read showing up as such, and threads I had posted in showing up at the top. It's not doing that today; I had to refresh the window to get the content to update. I haven't changed any settings on my computer, or in my forum profile. Dunno if it's related to the doubletap issue, but it's another data point.
  16. Nice. I wonder how much extra LockMart charged for that feature...
  17. Never heard that one before. A brief Google-ing revealed nothing related to AR. What's it mean?
  18. Integrity check, maybe? Or, maybe it's as simple as "The reg says so". Who knows... half the time I don't think the MDG (at least at WRI - YMMV at Base X) knows why the hell they're doing the things they do. ** That's not a shot at deaddebate; I've learned more from his posts here than in 7.5 years of AFRES time.
  19. Quick reply test. Windows Vista, IE9. Probably a useless data point... Quick reply test. Windows Vista, IE9. Probably a useless data point... EDIT: Typed the first one, hit "Post". Page blinked but my post did not appear; still stayed in the quick reply box. Hit "post" again; the double-tap above was the result. Maybe not so useless after all. 2nd edit: The edit button worked fine. 3rd edit (last one, I swear...) Thank you to DFRESH and the other admins, for all the behind the scenes work you do to keep this place up & running.
  20. US Navy "license plate" on that golf cart... hilarious.
  21. Then, they'll have to start eliminating a bunch of other glove types from the supply system, even the ones that have a well-defined (if somewhat specialized) requirement. Soon, your JSF glove will be one of the only ones available, even for requirements it wasn't really designed for.
  22. Hate those shitty Bell grease couplings... edit: clarification - I dealt with them for several years in the .civ world.
