Garland announces the DoJ will fight Voter ID laws. Imagine being against proving that you are legal to vote. This should be a no brainer, non-political issue. Unless you want people who aren’t legal to vote to somehow vote?4 points

True, a complimenting acquisition with the 46 and 777 tankers using same technology for mil systems (boom, defensive, comms, cargo handling, etc…) would have been my pitch way back in the day Of course this assumes they would have not fudged up the 46 and would have spun down the 135 also, a fleet of new tanker iron Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Hell DEI is a full time industry/profession now! Random example, you can now select DEI fellowship for IDE/SDE! Wonder why we haven’t won a war in decades.1 point

Thank you for the reply! I will explore using the chair to see if that may be able to help me fix my issue. I appreciate the info. Side question: wouldn't it be bad to go into the office with this issue, even if it's correctable, since it would go on my medical record? Or do you think that, since it may be fixable, it wouldn't be an issue?1 point

Thats fucking horseshit. AF leadership has already stated they're having/going to have a problem producing & retaining qualified people for Sq command; now they're back to levying an artificial requirement for command that will drive more good people away.1 point

That's all well and good, but that skill set is a dime a dozen, and he did far more damage with his McCarthy stunt than his theatrics can offset. He is, however, just another useless politician in an ocean of unaccomplished amateur actors pretending to be competent and in control. I can't fault a sociopath for finding a position to exploit.1 point

Your best bet is to score flying with other units. Your CC should help facilitate that. It won’t likely be the amount or consistency you really want, but it’ll keep your “head above water” flying-wise until the future aircraft course. Consider things like: - Augment another unit’s deployment, TDYs, etc. - Go TDY every 6 weeks or so to get a couple sorties with another unit - Look into ability to PCS to another unit for a couple years until the new aircraft training timing is right - Is there a TX available to attend earlier and you go to another unit with the new aircraft for a while until home unit has the new aircraft? All of these options are tried and true. Talk to your CC about all of them.1 point

Nailed it. But given the choice, I’d still rather do fucked up no-notices than fucked up “prep bullshit for 6-9 months” inspections (then let it all wither for 2-3 years and repeat). Either way you’re fucked, but at least you didn’t waste 6-9 mo of your life pulling 12 hr queep days on MICT, etc.1 point

Correct. Fly like a normal jet, but can be taken control of from the ground. I got a flight in the F-4…it was awesome: got my ass kicked in BFM by a Viper and eventually the 69 yr old guy on the ground took control for some maneuvering and then RTB and a pattern. Very cool nostalgic flight, but man I’m glad I never had to go to war in an F-4!1 point

My concern is that we're going to do it anyways, and the price will not scale linearly with time. I'd love to see us move the massive manufacturing we put in Asia over the past 30 years into South and Central America. How on earth we thought it was a better idea to enrich economies on the other side of the planet, instead of the people who surround us, is one of the many mysteries of Washington DC. But we have to do it in a way that accepts they will eventually take over the manufacturing and associated businesses as their own, assuming we succeed in developing them. Countries can't progress as vassal states.1 point

Off the street, you're probably going to be doing a lot of hanging out and doing nothing of substance while you wait for training. They'll put you in some AFSC for purposes of enlisting, but it may be completely unrelated, and not even in your hiring squadron. Just depends. Even then you'll likely still do nothing. Thats been my experience at least. I just use drill weekends as a time to continue to get to know the pilots. There are a lot of briefings you won't be able to sit in on at this stage without a TS clearance. I've never heard of units giving new-hires rides. Those are typically reserved for dudes who have done something special or have shown exemplary work ethic in the squadron. But, I also dont know jack, so YMMV. Also, its entirely possible to do you FC1 before you enlist with the unit, there were several guys at my FC1 who had not enlisted yet. But its beneficial to enlist asap, because then you get paid during drill. I think if you live a ways away from the base its a different story. If you've ever had any surgeries (aside from simple things like wisdom teeth) start getting all of your med records from that surgery. It can take a while for Dr. offices to get those, and you'll need them for MEPS. What you could do, and I've started doing so as advice from one of my units pilots, is start tracking everything you have done/will do post-hiring. Make it into a neat document for future hires. Things like what you had to do getting uniforms ordered, or computer access, anything that will be useful to the next guy getting hired. If there was some little trick you found to get X done quicker. You'll soon find out everyone on base acts like you're the first guy to get hired off the street and no one knows what the heck is going on. Even though that's not usually the case.1 point

I’ll tell you this that the AAD thing is back with a vengeance. I BFM’d that requirement to O-5 DO gig and then went from top Strat to bottom 1/3 for next rack and stack. When I asked why they said that since that’s a requirement for O-6 and not having one shows you don’t want to be an O-6, they don’t want you to be a commander since that’s a step to O-6. Sigh.0 points
