For you U-2 guys that didn't know, Sooch did his first shot in the Virgin Galactic space ship last week. At 170,000', it was still a low altitude test and he doesn't get astronaut wings yet... but it's great to see him finally get into the saddle after 5 years of training. I guess this makes him the highest flyer within our community. Sooch was an '85 commission; came to the U-2 in late '89; U-2 Solo #544; then did the TPS thing and Palmdale U-2 Flight Test, before coming back as the 1 RS commander. Somewhere in the 90's, I recall him making it into a later round for Space Shuttle selection. The guy has mad pilot skills, and is brilliant. The AF in its infinite wisdom couldn't find a reason to promote him to O-6. Seems to me that it has worked out better for Sooch, and the AF lost another quality leader before they needed to. Reference "Star Wars": it is set in the future. And that future has flightsuits. This shouldn't be too hard of a concept to grasp. The flightsuit will never go away. Much like the U-2. They can try all they want to kill it... but it just won't happen. Plus... chicks dig a 40 inch zipper. p.s. Don't get me started on the demise of deep v-neck T-shirts under the flight suit. Crew neck T-shirts are for guys that eat too much soy and can't grow hair on their chest.

For me, the bag is one of the things I love about my job. I’ll be pissed if the AF takes that too. I’m not a shoe clerk or some Army dumbass. I’m a pilot. And I want to look like one, even if the AF riddles me with a bunch of nonner BS.

They keep missing the boat with all this after the UPT commitment is up, by that point it’s too late. Also like previously mentioned other AFSCs don’t have to wait until the end of their commitment to receive professional pay, so this will likely backfire once again.

I’m proud to wear a comfortable uniform. Also don’t need a zipper suit or a leather jacket for the world to know I’m a pilot. Would rather live in obscurity anyway. Flying cargo has greatly increased my antisocial tendencies. Who gives a shit? The OCPs rock for hot wx ops, also known as EVERY current deployed location.

Maybe they need to curtail their flight training program hours and add some VR study time.

It’s 101 degrees and 30 knot winds outside right now present location. I’m damn glad I’m able to take off my top. I also have an option to wear a sweet ass fire retardant combat shirt that breathes. The bag will always have a place in my heart, but I’m digging the improved QoL associated with the two-piece. I equate to loving a sport bike but sitting on a Harley for the first time. Trust me when I say you won’t look back. Also, for the ejection seat argument, how hard is it to get suspenders or some other tech solution to enable the swap? And don’t fast pants do most of the work retaining the bottom part of the garment anyway?

I've learned to not predict the future - after Hillary coming back from the dead after her first loss to Obama; Obama's re-election after a completely lackluster, especially regarding economic growth which was nil to barely registering, yet he did win. So, I don't predict an auto-Trump win in 2020. But, once was enough since it kept Hillary out and exposed some of the shenanigans going on with some of the tools of power. As to the out-of-control spending, I agree. But don't remember expressions of concern during the Obama years. So, it just now matters to you? So, ginormous spending is bad, but a robust economy is good, especially when it comes to votes. Like many other things in life, it's about consistent performance at a very high level. Just peaking isn't going to win you any titles here or anywhere else. Amateurs, most of them. I know several people who were at staff, 3+ years non current, punched at 16-17 years, and were hired directly into a major airline.

Of course it's not stressful when you're at an "advanced age" and the test consists of shuffleboard and maneuvering through a few cones with your hoveround.

Absent a PPL, you probably have zero shot (at a Guard/Reserve squadron). With one, you have a shot, provided you rush the units, make best buds with the people there, and are just plain good. On the plus side, given your age, you have plenty of time to chase the dream of fighters and still have time to apply for transports and tankers when/if that fails. If you're on the hunt for fighter slots for a year, say, and you don't even get called for an interview, you know you probably aren't competitive and can shift your sights or refocus your future plans. I'd say five letters of rec is too many, pick your best three.

STEM degrees are what's most competitive, and your GPA is low. So you don't have much going for you there. Good news is that's not the end of the world. But those are the only stats you've given, so you had better work hard to stand out in other areas. 1. No one gives a shit about your student loans. They might come up when you get your clearance, but it won't be a big deal if you don't owe exorbitant amounts of money. 2. Get your PPL ASAP. You want to fly F-22s but you have 0 flight hours? I'm seeing a pretty big disconnect here. And no, I wouldn't consider a 2.8 GPA in information systems competitive for a fighter guard unit. But again, GPA isn't the end all be all. If you're a good bro with a well rounded application in other areas, you can still be competitive. 3. Build flight hours, study/take your PPL written, study for AFOQT/TBAS, and then take AFOQT/TBAS. Then come back and ask to be rated and you'll get a better answer.

I know that but the Air Force doesnt. The new guidance refers to the uniform as OCP. The interim guidance previously called it the ACU but it was dropped.

It’s incredible how much fuckery has gone into this uniform fiasco the last 10 years. It’s seriously not that hard.

My mother works as a nurse in nursing home/hospice care. Every resident she has regardless of age or level of infirm status has an ID. They have to in order to pay or have access Medicare benefits. Jesus the level of contortions people will go to the explain why it’s ok to not have any form of identification yet exercise an action as big a deal as voting is ridiculous.

Generally they have a board every two years. However, this last board they hired 4 candidates and from what I am being told, at least two were DQ'd for medical. I talked to one of our pilots a few weeks ago and it sounds like they are planning on holding another board in 2019 and looking to hire another 3-4 candidates for F-35 pipeline. Hope this helps.

A large number of the SEALs I've met, worked with, and had working for me were raging pricks. Looking at the video and having close ties to that mission, it is very clear we left Chapman alive on the battlefield. The audacity of these asshats to deny the plain as day evidence then denigrate a brave fucking hero who never quit and gave his last full measure...well...FUCK THEM.
