Cross posted... I think they should get rid of the bonus at the end of UPT ADSC. Instead they should enact a rule that allows pilots to fully retire after 15 years (basically 3 years after UPT ADSC expires) I'd give 3 more years to get a full retirement. 8 no, but 3 would make people think. Puts a typical dude at age 38 when they get out with a full retirement. Bet the "take rate" doubles... It would at least buy them some time.

Some people in AF are biased as hell. There will always be a cool kids club in the AF. Bros taking care of bros. I take care of everyone, especially the dudes people tend to kick to the curb because they might be strange. Don't beat yourself up when people claiming to be leaders, ultimately failed you.

I wish I'd had the benefit of this advice 8-10 years ago. I went 4 years in a unit, and the only stray I got was "#X/XX as group CGOQ." The one time I asked what it asked to actually get a strat, my boss, who had been the CGO assignments officer for my career field at AFPC, lied and said "X/XX as award winner IS a good strat." I didn't figure out how hard I'd been screwed until three years later, when an O-6 sat me down and told me I was a good officer and a hard worker, but I was probably not going to able to make Lt Col and was very likely to get RIFed because of those non-strat years. Super bad on me for not better knowing what it takes to get promoted and even worse on me for not asking harder.

The very same brief, he arrived and made it clear with his lengthy introduction that our issue is that we the pilot force are unaware of all the great "initiatives" that are being undertaken that have made our lives amazing and we are all angry because we are simply ignorant of these great things. He actually believed we gave two shits about things big daddy Air Force was "looking at", or "worked on" as opposed to any thing even remotely concrete. Even worse (in my opinion) his biggest plea for help beyond a very honest "we need you" was his appeal to our patriotism. I'm sorry that me signing up for 10 years was not patriotic enough for you. Even worse that some how our political military engagement should make us want to continue to serve because dropping "150 bombs a day", as if we haven't been heavily engaged for the last +16 years without any end in sight is going to appeal to my sense of duty. When he was finally asked questions his first response was to lash back angrily, when he was shot down for that and the room essentially went hostile on him he showed his ignorance of many of larger issues being faced. Even worse from my point of view was his response to anything he remotely agreed on was "well we will look at that." Followed by explaining to us all how that won't change because the bureaucracy will protect its bloat (in reference to reducing worthless deployment tasking's), or that he has tried and failed to make changes. Real inspiring that the machine is to big to change. But it is okay, he told us to stop signing our OPRs because no one ever gets feed back because you know that'll end well for any one.

See the thing is you think you made a mistake posting the article without checking the date, but you unintentionally proved the point. Aside from a few clues like the reference to a 60 year retirement and Fogleman, the article is EXACTLY what is being written today. Anyone who thinks the AF will change are fools. They will make token efforts to get the gullible to adopt a "wait and see" approach, thus retaining those individuals just long enough for the current crop of AF managers to finish their tenure, claim to have done something, and move on to lucrative "advisor" and "board member" jobs, handing the bag to the next manager who will attempt to do the same.

Very simple, the media has been hounding Trump non-stop. A research group tracked CNN's coverage for a day and over 90% of their coverage/guests were negative/anti-Trump. Obama was a deemed a Saint and above reproach by the media. Regarding Special Counsel, they have never prosecuted anyone for the reason or "crime" they were tasked to investigate but prosecuted smaller characters for procedural errors like testimony inaccuracy. Think Scooter Libby or Martha Stewart.

Nailed it. A lot of this boils down to having a SQ commander who has some balls to tell the shoe clerks running the base: "NO"... No, we aren't using a line flying pilot to watch a piss test. No, we aren't participating in your g-$ morale run. And no, we aren't going to have half the squadron sit through LRS's worthless mobility line all day when we have lines to fly.

At my base, aircrew are now required to operate the high lift trucks instead of AFE. That means I have to get pilots and navs to take a course on how to drive the stupid truck, and then have them take it on as an additional duty. It means when I have a TDY departing or arriving on weekend, someone has to come in just to drive the damn truck. Also, I had to assign a young copilot to watch other chicks piss in cups for a solid week, 0700-1600. I get sitting SOF (kind of). I get sitting Sup. But what in the bloody hell are we doing? Aside from the insanity of having a pilot, who has millions of dollars invested in their training, not fly in order to drive a truck or watch people urinate... this kind of crap just kills morale. My Lt copilots are all jaded. How can you blame them? It's about unmet expectations. They worked and sacrificed more than their peers to become military pilots. Then we have them do things an E-1 should be doing. The Air Force is insane. What they are doing with additional duties is like having a neurosurgeon do less surgeries so he can help the janitors (who get paid the same as the neurosurgeons).

I know certain captains who fall asleep on every single flight. No shit. Good luck with single pilot ops.
