Quick question, if you are passed over twice in the IRR, and you are separated from IRR, are you eligible for any military service after that including the ANG?

I'm currently on a 240 day PCS order set that consists of MPA days. I've been told I'm entitled to a PCS move which I thought was fantastic since I am moving next month and started the paperwork for the local PCS move. However, the lady that is processing the paperwork told me I am not eligible since my orders don't have Household Goods accounting line on them. Do I have any recourse or am I pretty much SOL? Thanks!!

I'll be PCSing with family in tow to Laughlin in March. I was wondering, in the reserves, do you get the 10 days to house hunt/move in, etc like you do active duty? Do you need to request that time or do they tack that time onto the front of the orders automatically for a PCS? My plan was to take the alloted 4 days to drive out there and then hopefully use the 10 days to get into our base housing/receive our shipped goods prior to UPT start.

Any doctors here currently doing a physician job in the civilian world and also flying guard/reserve? What speciality do you practice and what age did you start UPT training?

I am a civilian that wants to fly fighters with the Guard for 10 years, and I know that the 10-year commitment to the ANG begins after getting wings. I haven't found a good source of information regarding this commitment, however. As such, my questions are only in regards after you get wings, since washing out prior to UPT graduation incurs no commitment. I have questions like: 1. What happens if you are medically disqualified from flying after being winged? (Also, where can I find more information on what can medically disqualify me?) 2. Under what conditions would that commitment be cancelled? 3. In what scenarios would one be committed to the ANG, but n…

Hello all, I am an avid "lingerer" of this forum and have a few questions about joining the ANG or AFRES as a pilot. I apologize if these questions have already been answered or I am posting in the wrong thread. I had no luck in my search and am seeking some guidance. I am a 24 yo graduate with an engineering degree from Texas A&M University and a little over 20 hours of flight time. I am on schedule to get my PPL by the end of the year, in the case my examiner doesn't bend me over on my check ride. Included in my package are many hours of leadership and volunteer experience. The bump that I have run into is the acuity of my eyes. I just went through my annual c…

I just did my first PME course since the switchover to ASU happened about a year ago. Anybody have experience with points posting to PCARS with ASU yet? Do the points show up with each course you do (ie no changes)? If the points don’t show up, what proof do you have to give the PCARS people since AUSIS is now shut out of the process?

Hey guys, I’m a reservist pilot with a full time civilian job. I am finding it harder and harder to keep up with my currencies in the jet. Not to mention regular deployments and constant pay headaches. My heart is simply not into my job as a pilot anymore. I am nearing the point of dread every time I have to make the drive to the base. I have 2 years 5 months until retirement. I am looking for a seriously part time gig and even willing to go the points, no pay route if it means I can log points towards retirement, and not miss out on my civilian job and family events anymore. Does anyone have any good ideas on where to start? I have looked into the admissions l…

Is it possible to voluntarily transfer to retired reserve at 20 yrs? I have a guy in my sq who has prior enlisted time (so it’s not a msd retirement). ARPC is telling him he can’t req retirement until he gets 20 yrs, possibly not until his 20 yr letter. If that’s true the earliest he can retire is after attaining 20 yrs: +120 days to receive 20 yr letter +180 days notice =20 yrs & 10 months! Anyone have anecdotal experience with this situation?

Hey all- I'm an off the street select at an ANG unit. I was put in touch with the unit's recruiter and had one conversation with him about a month ago. I still haven't heard back. I haven't provided him any additional documents either. This is all pre-MEPS/FC1. Do you have any suggested plan of action if you were in this situation? I know about the waiting game, but when phones go silent, and emails aren't responded to I get anxious. I am considering waiting another month and then reaching out to the pilot hiring board and the chief pilot. Any suggestions? Should I call the other recruiters at the unit? In the mean time I'm finishing the last ho…

I have read that it is highly recommended to have your PPL when applying to a squadron. Is there any possibility at all of getting accepted without any flight experience whatsoever? I figured their had to be another way since some people can not afford to just go out and drop $7000-$8000 for their private?

Good morning! I'm current AD Enlisted Air Force, I just got orders to RAF Mildenhall. This is going to take me 3 years, which will be the end of my contract. My goal right now is to be able to start applying to ANG units about a year out, hopefully taking some leave and flying around the country for meet & greets/interviews (hopefully). My question: I've noticed that many units require or strongly recommend applying with a PPL. Right now I've got 13 flight hours, and I leave in 2 weeks so it's not feasible for me to hurry up and finish my PPL. I've been doing some research and it looks like instruction over there is much more expensive. There's an opti…

Hey guys, I'm looking for advice on how to prep for UPT. All I'm doing right now is working out and maintaining currency with my PPL. In your opinions would working on an instrument rating right now be worth the money? I'm excited to start this new phase in life and look forward to hearing your do's and don'ts. Cheers

Is there anyone who is prior service (not rated) and signed up for the TDART program? Were you able to get a waiver to start at something higher than a GS-9, or possibly a GS-9 but a higher step? Im a prior non rated Capt coming from AD and a few months from UPT graduation and also pinning on Maj. The idea of going from full time Maj pay to GS-9 is not ideal. Ill need 300 MWS hrs before going to GS-11 and then 750 before going to 12.

I am a prior Army Aviator that is currently in the Air National Guard in an O-5 non-flying position. I haven't flown for several years and would like to get back into the cockpit in the ANG or AFRES. My options are limited to only vertical lift, since big USAF killed the Fixed Wing Qualification Program in 2012. I am searching for any suggestions.

So I am trying to get my package done for the NOV UFT board, which is due 2 Nov. I am currently a reservist and all I need to finish the submission is a commissioning physical. This physical is sufficient to apply to the board, as long as a wright patt fc-1 is scheduled (doesnt have to be complete) I completed my PEPP and the reserve medical squadron told me it will be 45-60 days to get it processed..so I went to the active duty hospital and managed to get a commissioning physical scheduled next week. My question would be will this physical be sufficient for the board? The hospital where I went is where the recruiter sends civilian applicants (if not meps).. The reason…

I've searched some of the ANG unit websites and I couldnt find out if they wanted any extra documents for prior-service applicants. I assume that they dont but I didnt know if any of you enlisted guys sent in performance reports or anything. Thanks for your time.

Long time lurker here that finally decided to drop a post. I'm finishing up school at UT and hoping to get a Guard slot with the 136th AW. This question goes out to everyone though since I plan on applying to fighters and possibly tankers as well if I can't get a Herk slot. Do ANG guys match up with AD guys in proficiency and general combat readiness? The reason I ask is that if I'm going to be flying around getting shot at, I'd prefer to be as prepared as possible. Thus, if AD guys are typically more prepared, I think I'd prefer to go AD. It seems to me that it would be especially difficult in a guard fighter unit to maintain proficiency, but I guess as long …

Hi all, I tried to find info on another thread about this but couldn’t find what I was looking for. I was lucky enough to be picked up by a Guard unit and have been going through the post-hire process to include MEPS, FC1, and going to drill each month before training. I was hired out of state and have been taking PTO from my civilian job in order to attend these things. Am I required to take PTO from my civilian job if I am fulfilling a military related obligation? After a couple google searches I found some info on it but am not sure how it would affect someone in the Guard let alone someone enlisted for the purpose of commissioning. I’ve been burning through quite a bi…

I'm not sure if this belongs here but I didn't want to flood the "What Are My Chances" forum with this since my AFOQT isn't until September, and I'm not even done with school. Anyway, I've managed to make this life-goal of mine about as difficult as it can get through a combination of delays, procrastination, and despondency. I've mostly made up for all of that, and I'm about 90% of the way there now, but I fear I may end up being too late in the end. Like the title says, I'm feeling pretty discouraged and really just hoping to hear some words of wisdom from someone more experienced. I've been working hard to get my PPL and finish college the last few months. I'…

For guard guys, can you tell me the process/timeline for date of rank and pay(or backpay). For example, once the PV has been approved by SecDef, is that your new DOR? After that it has to be passed on to the National Guard Bureau? How long does that process usually take? Is it after the NGB approves it that you actually start getting paid at new rank? Thanks

Was discussing on another forum about my chances of going the pilot Reserves route because I'm somewhat hesitant of going Active Duty and not getting a pilot slot (Needs of the Airforce). Was trying to get some feedback on what the general feel of the training pipeline, acceptance, etc. was like. Instead I got a bunch of "If you're afraid of the needs of the AF going Active Duty then you shouldn't even commission". "It's about being an Officer first, not being a pilot." "Reserves isn't here just to get you hours/ratings." Like damn, just trying to gauge the feel of getting a pilot slot thru reserves v AD because 1.) I love flying 2.) I'm interested in servi…

Hi all, Recently separated from active duty and plan to be a guard bum with the 112 AOS in Pennsylvania. I just have some general questions I am hoping I can get some answers to (I think I know the answers, I just want to make sure I'm not thinking something dumb...) First money: As I understand it each day I am on orders I will get- 1 day of: base pay, BAH type II and BAS plus any additional extra pay (for example flight pay). Also I am told BAH and BAS is tax free. Is this true? In addition, if I am on orders away from my unit I will get per diem for each day based on where I am. Is this correct? Just to be conservative I used the partial rate for each pla…

Once your packet gets to the Guard Bureau what exactly do they do with each packet? Do they look over each one individually and read all the comments, scores, letters of rec, and resume etc? Do they judge each packet in some sort of manner and then decide where to put people according to how they rack and stack among their peers? I'm just curious what amount of time is spent with each packet and how it's processed. I would imagine that candidates who are age critical or who have waivers in any way shape or form would get more attention.
