I recently got assigned KC-10's to Travis, and will be moving there (I assume) within the next month or so. I was wondering if anyone that is based there could give me information on where to live, and where NOT to live. I recently saw that ghetto video about Fairfield, CA and figured I'd post this. I am not looking to buy at the moment, just rent (apartment, condo, house, townhouse, etc). My girlfriend works in advertising out of Atlanta right now, and is currently searching for jobs out west. I am also wondering, which of the cities would have more job opportunities for her, and are really awesome cities to live in (San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento, etc). Thank…

Hello Everyone! The Warfighter's Edge (WEdge) Team at USAFA has taken ownership of Mark Jacobson's Google Earth Pilot software. . . it's now called the WEdge Viewer and the BETA is available to you. Just send me an email. . .Email me Check out our website at www.wedge.hpc.mil. We've got a slew of certified and accredited software applications built by Warfighters for Warfighters. We've already made many enhancements to Mark's original software. By end of CY 2010, we hope to release an upgraded version of the WEdge Viewer that increases DAFIF rendering times tenfold (through the use of a spatially enabled database). The software is GOTS (government-off-the-shelf) …

I don't have orders yet, so I can't get an "official" move estimate yet. However, due to some TDY's before my PCS, I need to figure out NOW if it's gonna be viable to do a PPM/DITY. I went to TMO today and she did a PPM Calculator worksheet. I watched her look up all the numbers except the Low Baseline Percentage (which came out to 200%). What is low baseline percentage? She seemed really unsure about the final number, and I had to help her with the math - didn't really instill confidence in me. Can someone explain low baseline percentage? Does it make sense to have 200% (which doubles my reimbursement)? Here are my numbers (moving from Columbus, MS to Seattle, W…

Had this passed to me by my father-in-law. Did a quick search to try to avoid any duplication and didn't see it. Wanted to share. Tango Mike Mike Green Beret in Vietnam who came to the aid of a surrounded and wounded team with a knife and a med kit. Shot 7 times, two grenade wounds, broken jaw, and bayonet wounds in both arms. Fought off the enemy calling in air strikes and getting a helo to take the wounded out. After that was shot down while all were on board he did the same thing until he could call in another. "...when the doctor tried to zip up the body bag he spit in the doctor's face..." An amazing story and an even more amazing soldier. Ego

My girlfriend is going to PCS to Wright-Patt in about two weeks and is looking for a nice neighborhood to find an apartment, and/or for the place that a lot of the junior officers live. If anybody has any insight, whether you have been stationed there before or if you are there now. Thanks.

Here is the situation, I am prior service with ten years enlisted. I have recently completed a commissioning program and have been on hold to enter active duty due to the draw down. I am two weeks out from my training start dates and I still do not have orders. What we have been told is that AFPC finance is backed up with thousands of orders and apparently no method for completing them for individuals who are leaving in the next few weeks. My concerns are the following: can I proceed to training without orders, how can I PCS my family to my gaining station without orders, and how do I cover the cost of my training since I do not have a GTC. I would appreciate any advice a…

I used to be pretty active in this forum when I was interviewing with the guard/af reserve. I got sick of sitting around so I joined the Marines. I was voluntold to go to Primary at Vance, so I was trying to see if anyone was looking for a roommate. I was looking to get a place with a extra room that we can use for studying. If your interested hit me up at guim13@aol.com. Good luck to the rest of you guys who have not been picked up yet. Navy down here is fighting to keep their slots and we dont have any slots for fy2011, so flight school the hard way is out for at least a year.

Air Force Times Link Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta will be the first living Medal of Honor recipient since the Vietnam War. On Thursday, President Obama spoke with Giunta, who is assigned to 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, in Vicenza, Italy, to inform him that he will be awarded the nation’s highest valor award, according to the White House. Giunta, 25, will be honored for his actions during a fierce firefight Oct. 25, 2007, in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley. According to the White House announcement, when an insurgent force ambush split Giunta’s squad into two groups, he exposed himself to enemy fire to pull a comrade …

Just ran across this on YouTube and thought some of you might find it interesting (Warning: it's about an hour long) Oh, he also mentions Lanchester bombers when he means Lancaster bombers, but realize that the Lanchester was a civilian version of the same airplane; seems like an honest mistake.

I am an old National Guard Logistics Officer getting ready to take my first deployment since Desert Storm (and the last one before I retire). I have a choice of going to Arifjan, Thumrait, or Ali Al Salem. I'd appreciate any feedback anyone can give me on the pros and cons of each of these locations. Particularly looking for things like: The OPSTEMPO at each location (I'd like to keep busy) What the facilities are like (quarters, workcenters, MWR, etc..) Communication capabilities (internet, phone access, wi-fi, etc...) Queep level

This is a couple months old, but I just had it sent to me. Seeing a fallen soldier home There is more to the article where the author does a good job following up with Lance Cpl. Wilson's parents, but this first half just blows me away. What in the world in your life could be so important that you can't give up your seat to a family who is trying to get home to their son's funeral? This showcases what is wrong with people these days. It's too bad there aren't more folks out there like the author.

Disclaimer: This is an adult discussion about air show related crashes and what can be done (if anything) to prevent them. It is intended for mature forum members only. So, all of you ROTC, Academy, and 4Chan fucks need to stay out. Since the Barnstorming days, accidents have happened and aviators and spectators have died. How can we help to prevent it? Now I can only speak for AMC, and we have had our fair share of accidents though time. My question is really related to dedicate vs. “available” Demo crews. Now I know ACC in the past has had specific A-10, F-16, ect. Demo pilots. As I understood it this was their job for a time. Am I correct? Now in AMC there ar…

So, I get the letter in the mail last week (while I'm deployed) saying that I owe the gov't money from a PCS that is 4+ years old. Any chance they waited too long to send out this request and I can totally disregard it? Is there a statute of limitations on when they can ask for this money back? I've searched the boards with no luck, and then I tried to search the DFAS website, might as well just asked to be kicked in the nuts for 30 minutes. The getting kicked in the nuts would have been more fun. Already tried everything I can think of. Would appreciate any help on this matter. Thanks guys. Edit for spelling--three times. Apparently I really suck at spelling…

Anyone have any experience working with the Collings Foundation? Specifically in coordinating with them for appearances at military airshows or functions. The 450th BG is having their last reunion, and I was thinking about how great it would be for these guys to have one of their planes here for the reunion. Our WG/CC mentioned pulling out all the stops to host the 450th Reunion, but I imagine it'd be difficult, not to mention of questionable legality, to pay Collings the $4000/hr to operate their B-24. I'm sure it is a pipe dream, but I'd love to hear any suggestions that could lead to a B-24 sitting on the ramp in October.

I searched but couldn't find any good info. Question for the masses... I've been in for 4 years, met my service obligation, and am planning to get out. I was going to separate under the "Completed ADSC" option but just recieved an assignment RIP and now have the option of separating under the 7-Day Option (AKA "Decline PCS or Assignment"). MPF says there is no difference when choosing which provision to separate under. However, I'm not so eaily convinced. Does anyone have any gouge on which option to chose? Does it matter for your DD214? I'm suffering at the 'Deid so any help would be much appreciated!
