Since AF helicopter pilots attend the T-6A phase in SUPT, are they allowed to be T-6A IPs further along in their career? The Navy/Marines has this policy in place for their helo/VSOL drivers.

  3. Hello Everyone! I'm an ex navy pilot in the process of swapping from gold to silver wings. I remember when I graduated from navy SERE, the guy who handed me my graduation certificate told me to place a copy in a safety deposit box. Despite the fact I have all my SERE documentation in order, I was recently told I will have to attend air force SERE and would like to see if anyone has made the gold to silver transition without attending air force SERE. Or, if you haven't made the transition, do you know anyone else I can reach out to for clarification? I'll name my firstborn grandchild in your honor if you can help me get out of this. Thanks everyone!

I'm putting the final touches on a novel and would appreciate help with the following re: C-130s. 1. The antagonist, an arms dealer, owns both a C-130, and a small island in the Gulf of Thialand. Bearing in mind that 1. artistic license is acceptable but still must be believable, 2. his pilots are "down-and-dirty" former GRU Spetsnaz, 3. it's an island! it can't have a long runway, what would be the minimum runway length? 1700 feet feasible? Less? I'm aware of the record landings and TOs on the Forrestal. Maybe I could put that in the book. 2. does the Herk have the ability to start without external generator? (can't remember the equipment name - been a few years …

This has been troubling me for some time now looking back on this board for almost two years now. What happens if you do not like beer and want to fly for the AF? I know, sounds like blasphemy but is this something I'll just have to suck up? I'm trying to picture ordering a Bacardi when everyone is drinking draft.

They usually get that info out fast. Is it me or is the military being “tight lipped” a little out of the ordinary? Anybody have unclass intel on this?

Hello everyone I am new to Baseops and I have been a long time reader. I find this website to be one of the greatest resources anyone can come across if one is to pursue a flying career in the military. Kudos to everyone for the great work! I need some advice from those who wish to reply. I am currently a freshman in college studying electrical engineering. I have previous college experience with sophomore credits, but because I changed schools and majors, I am now a freshman….again. I chose engineering because I was involved with an engineering club in high-school. The subject really interested me. But, the real reason why I majored in engineering is because of my mom. …

Since a lot of you have "been there done that" I could use some advice or words of encouragement on UPT. I've only been going for a few months now and it's a lot different than what I expected. I thought I could handle stress, and flying planes, but this is a whole different ball of wax. Basically, I suck flying and I'm probably the worst in academics. However, I'm not ever going to give up and I'll take it one day at a time. Just wanted to know if anyone else could relate to what I'm going through and if you had any ideas on what I could do in order not to get so down on myself.

alright i have limited experience here. but why is it that anyone "in the know" or anyone that has the power to change things (read: most 0-6s and up) will never give you a straight answer. theres always just the song and dance with the eventual ending of stating the company line. why is that there is now no one in leadership (big leadership) that still has the balls to question big blue. hell the af came from a guy who questioned all the way down to his career grave. i just want for once someone to admit that the air force has an identity crisis of cold war guys leading us who dont know how they af currently fits in. that the way we are producing officers is borderli…

Hello I'm a danish citizen born in united states. I've just failed the flying school in the RDAF, and I'm now considering applying as a pilot in the USAF. I don't have a high school degree, but I have what compares to that in Denmark. What is the view on that when you apply? I passed the tests to get on the RDAF pilot training, but failed in the selection on flying school. Will this affect me if I apply? In the RDAF they select only aspirants which have the skills to become a fighter pilot, I know that's not the case in USAF.

So I was watching the A340 RTO fire video from our video Thread and I started thinking about how I've got this answer memorized: "In the T-37, maximum temperatures will occur in the wheel/brake assembly 5-15 minutes after maximum braking is applied." But I don't know WHY max temps occur 5-15 minutes AFTER. That makes it sound like the brakes continue to heat up after you take away the friction and that doesn't make sense to me. Anyone got the answer? [ 11. December 2006, 05:32: Message edited by: Toro ]

  21. Looking to invest in a new Ipad Pro and Foreflight + Jeppesen, before I drop a far amount of money on this setup I was curious if anyone had some better options or advise on why to go this route or why not to go this route? Aircraft already has a GNS430 as primary so this is more big screen for pubs, flightplanning, weather, take out of the plane ease of use type function. Thanks in advance.

  22. This event continues to grow, and is a two-day event this year. 19-20 May, in Redlands, CA... about 1 hour west of Palm Springs. This not your father's airshow: it's a beer festival, concert, with an airshow component. And there is more craft beer at AirFest than at any airshow in the US. The Canadians are bringing the CF-18 Demo Team for one of their very few US performances, including a twilight performance on Saturday evening. F-16 Demo will be there too. The civilian performers are stellar. FYI: the Sunday show is going to be different. The planes will fly, but about half of the show will not be announced. Instead, the bands will pla…

Anyone have any information on the new AF helicopter only training program? Are they scheduled to use the Bell 505 in replacing the TH-1H now being used? How long is the new course? Is the obligation still 10yrs after winging? Happy Holidays all.

So I got a negligent driving, second degree ticket this summer (before I started ROTC) and put it down on the list of infractions when I was filling out the paper work. Well, just last week one of the cadre asked me to fill out this paper explaining exactly what happened. I'm just curious if something like a negligent driving ticket will ruin or lessen my chance at a pilot slot. I took the ticket to court and it was dismissed. I'm just hoping I didn't shoot myself in the foot by getting that sort of ticket. I know it's not a felony or anything, but it is the highest traffic violation.
