Gents-- Approaching a decision in a few short years and wanted to get the correct answers without derailing other threads. I've looked through the separations AFI, and the best I can make of that nightmare of tables and notes is 12 months max time from telling big blue no on an assignment or TDY. I keep hearing about sanctuary at 18 yrs. how does it work? What is the reference/source document? (since if it becomes an issue I will undoubtedly have to learn how to do a personnelist's job in intimate detail)

I heard some rumors at the KMC sports bar that two C-5M's collided during taxi and another C-17 landed short at Dover. There might have been some beers consumed by various crew members at said bar so I don't know how true either of these incidents are.

Is the Super Hornet still capable against emerging threats from the Mig-35 and Flanker Series? It seems that the Super Hornet and Mig/Flankers have the same agility and same weapon, systems package. Their both heavy weight fighters. But the Super Hornet and Flanker is just a competitive match in a WVR/BVR fight. But the the SH seems to have the better systems, avionics and weapons. While they both are equally great in WVR, but the SH has far better nose authority (to point the nose where it wants to go). But the Flanker seems to be better at speed. I'm down at training and I heard a rumor that they were going to stand up a gunship unit over in Mildenhall soon/sometime in the near future. Anyone know of any truth to this with any sources? Sorry ahead of time if this has already been covered... I promise I tried searching before I posted.

What is the current (and projected) TDY/deployment rates of the Buffs? I understand that they are not deployed in the normal AEF cycle. Also, where do they go when they do go overseas? Just trying to find out my options as an EWO.....

I finished pilot training a few months ago (shoulda knocked this FAA stuff out while outprocessing Corpus) and I'm here for the FTU. at Corpus and Columbus there were local dudes (sim instructors in both cases) who had this process as streamlined as it could be; anyone know of a similar great American here in central AR? thanks!

Hey all, hopefully this is the right section to be asking these questions. My thread didn't really seem to fit any so I figured this would be the best place. So I am very interested in joining the Air Force. I am going to be a sophomore (at college) this coming fall, so I am late to the party (I'll be joining ROTC). I am a Civ. Engineer with a 3.5 GPA. I would love to become a pilot. But there are a couple things that are scaring me. I am a single guy and I want a family in the future. I assume I will have time to find a girl at some point early in my career...but will I be able to start a family and have them in an ideal situation? Let's say by the age of 35,…

I just bought a house in lovely (puke) Del Rio. I'm gonna rent out two of the rooms to some buds of mine who will be going through UPT at more or less the same time. I'm just looking for advice from any people that have done similar things before- Did you have them sign a lease, or just trust them to make payments/ stick to their word? Do I need to involve the base housing people or legal? What happens if I have them sign a formal lease and then one decides to go helos and needs to get out of it? Obviously no problemo from my point of view, but am I opening up a world of hurt from a legal perspective? Any and all advice is appreciated.

Baseops, I'm trying to finish my Master's and I'm writing on the effects of transitioning the Air Battle Manager syllabus to entirely simulators. No one has advocated that course of action but I want to research the effects of using more simulation for pilot, navigator, and EWO training to see if I could draw any conclusions or parallels. My question is has anyone seen/read/have any recommendations on literature I could review that deals with the effects of moving commercial or military aviation to more simulators and less live fly? Waldo

Just curious how many ops groups out there have banned flight suit wear except for performing flight related duties? We were told it was due cost cuts but solutions to counter that were not heard. Anyone else not getting to wear flight suits as the UOD?

Oh my GOD, I can't believe what I've done. I worked my way into a position where I have to write OPRs...I know I know....stupid, stupid, stupid. Oh well. Does anybody have some good quidelines/examples/gouge. My squad keeps all the good OPRs as examples and the scrounge off of but I'm sure someone has to have some good stuff out there!?! Anybodys help would be greatly appriciated.... have a good one!

I have a specific question about the AF Tuition Assistance. I'm on a long casual stint, and I've started working on my master's. I was told at the education office that TA only covers TUITION, and that no fees whatsoever are paid for. When you fill out the online application, it even asks for REQUIRED fees and says they will be paid. I tried to input my required fees and the education counselor made me remove them before she would approve my TA request. I'm only taking one class and the fees are like $600 (TA only paid the $276 tuition), and I can't use MGIB since I haven't been in for 2 years yet.
