Im wondering why do some guys crush the backs of their flight cover, so the back sticks up? Others will make a the back flatten out in the back. If you arent seeing what Im saying. When you put the cover on push the back down, it creates a tail look. Can anyone tell me why? I heard a few things. In WWII the flight caps were crushed by the headset, and it stuck. Another one was that guys with tons of hours "can" do it. Then I heard that fighter/bomber guys wear the crushed-back-tail-sticks-up (USN speak ducktail) And the heavy drivers wear the one with the back flatten and sticking out back. If anyone knows the reason please let me know, and the correct …

I recently finished IFS in Pueblo and have been seriously contemplating not going to UPT. I am due to start at Laughlin in July but dont know if I should go. I had a good time flying but I just dont think military flying is for me. However, I do want to be in the Air Force, just not as a pilot. I have not talked about this with my commander but I just wanted to see if anyone out there would have any insights on if I would simply be forceshaped or be able to work in another AFSC. Any advice/help would be great. Cheers.

  7. All, I have been feverishly working on standing up a new (more modern, feature-rich) site to post all of the aviation jobs. Voila! GuardReserveJobs.com was born in April and the doors finally were opened last night. All of the previous (200+) baseops aviation jobs have moved over to this new site. Why the new site? The old site, although functional, was cumbersome and lacked functionality. The new site (guardreservejobs.com) looks like a monster.com and shares many of those features - database driven so you can search by crew position, geo-location, keyword, etc. Users can create accounts, post resumes, etc. Employers (units) have full control over their own J…

Does anyone have any experience with these positions? Just wondering what the pay, lifestyle, bases are? I understand I would probably be 60 days in the AOR flying, but i'm wondering if its worth it to even apply for a job to augment my "guard bumming." in case LTMPA dries up....Thanks.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/11/21/boeing-747-mistakenly-lands-at-small-kansas-airport/?intcmp=latestnews "A Boeing 747 jumbo jet mistakenly landed a tiny airport in Kansas late Wednesday, raising questions about how the pilots got off course. The jet landed at Col. James Jabara Airport, about 8 miles north of its intended target, the McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita. Jabara's runway is just 6,101 feet long, much shorter than is ideal for an aircraft of that size. Roger Xanders, chief of the Wichita Airport Authority's police and fire department, told KMBC-TV that nonetheless the plane should be able to take off around noon Thursday. The plane, oper…

Those clowns at the CAOC will now have to deploy to the actual combat zone to get their extra $225 a month: https://www.stripes.com/news/dod-announces-changes-to-imminent-danger-pay-1.260479 WASHINGTON – On Friday, the Defense Department announced that many areas will be removed from the list of places where U.S. servicemembers qualify for imminent danger pay. “Today we are announcing the recertification of some locations as Imminent Danger Pay areas while we are discontinuing that designation for others,” Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren told reporters. Of the areas previously designated for IDP, about one-third were decertified. IDP is intended to provide …

  15. Nickel in the Grass for a 7+ year Vietnam POW. RIP Brother. From vansairforce.net on 9 Jan 2014, Link: https://www.vansairforce.com/community/showthread.php?t=108462 One of the pioneers of RV [Van’s Aircraft, homebuilt experimental aircraft] formation standards and a founding member of the Blackjack Squadron, Wesley Schierman passed away this weekend. Wes, Marty, and Dick began flying their RV4s in close formation together in the late 80’s and expanded their group by developing a structured training program in the early 90’s that continues to this day. Over the years, nearly 50 fortunate aviators have been ‘patched’ to fly as Blackjacks. There are extraordi…

I was in an at-fault accident almost 3 years ago when I tapped a car in front of me and the lady decided to start a lawsuit (a total BS frivolous lawsuit btw). My recruiter told me that he believes a current CIVIL lawsuit is disqualifying for pilot applicants. Does anyone know if this is true, and is it possible to get a waiver for it? Any advice is helpful.

Hey guys, does anyone know if BAH is prorated? For example, I am departing my current duty station on the 1st of x month. My BAH is much higher here than at my next base. I have 4 travel days to get there. Will my BAH for said month be at the higher rate for the entire month or will it get prorated to a certain amount of days and the rest be at the lower rate? Thanks for any help!

Hey all, My wife and I are both military and according to the FY14 Force Management Program I fall in the "RIF Board" category but my wife falls in the "Force Shaping Board" category (based on our year groups). Does anyone know what the difference is between being RIF'd vs being Force Shaped? From what I understand, they are both equivalent to being laid off by the military, but there has to be a difference (if there are two separate categories). Thanks in advance. ~Just a Regular Dude
