Well I am just starting college and I decided to do my research on becoming an Air Force officer early. After college, I plan to go to law school. After law school, I'll hopefully(God willing) get an OTS slot with a pilot/nav slot upon commissioning. I know it's possible to then do an intraservice transfer to a JAG position after 4 years of AD and before 10 years of AD. I talked to a few AF recruiters about it and they don't know anyone who has done it. Some didn't even know it was possible. Has anyone here done or plan to do such a thing? Any tips or hints in general? Also, being a pilot requires a 10 year commitment(after UPT) and being in JAG requi…

I love my job. I am only a C-130 loadmaster but I love my job. Every once in a while I see some really cool stuff. Here are some pics I took during todays Ft Smith conversion festivities over Arkansas.

I've heard of some sweet assignments flying C-12's for the State Department in Africa and South America. I know about the remotes to Korea, but that is not what I am interested in. I searched the AFPC website, but found nothing. Anyone know where I can get some gouge, or any good people to talk to?

At UPT, how often can studs either plan cross-countries to other UPT bases (to see buddies or something) or to bases near their families or something?

  7. From War on the Rocks: https://warontherocks.com/2019/04/air-force-manned-reconnaissance-at-a-crossroads/ From the article: The world today isn’t the Cold War world of yesterday, and Cold War requirements should not justify acquisition of new assets for tomorrow’s military needs. The RC-135’s innocence has long been compromised as it has evolved from its original peacetime role into a valuable combat asset, but both missions must be performed in the future. No single replacement solution can meet both of these disparate operational requirements. The U.S. Air Force must look beyond its obsession with warfighting to identify and procure a second manned big-wi…

I think the probability of acquiring the holy grail guard slot just became 69x harder. https://www.airandspaceforces.com/air-national-guard-fighter-fleet-bill/#:~:text=A minimum of 25 fighter, with at least 18 aircraft

  9. Because the people who made my TV won't answer my question.... I purchased a Vizio VW37L HDTV20A about a year ago and would like to bring it to Germany with me. I saw on the back that it's 100-240V, 2.5A. Does this mean that my TV is dual voltage and I can use it on the German power system? (with just a cord adapter and not a transformer) Another question on this subject is that of NTSC vs PAL. I know here in the US we use NTSC which is 60Hz, 30 per second, but in Germany they use PAL which is 50Hz, 25 per second. Does the 50/60Hz marking on my TV indicate that I can use it on the PAL system? Anyone here have an idea? I've been searching the net, emailed Viz…

Does the air force issue a survival knife to pilots? If so, what knife do they issue them? If not, is there a universal knife they use, or something? Thanks.

  14. Couldn't find a relevant existing thread for this one: https://taskandpurpose.com/military-children-born-abroad-citizenship The part that seems confusing to me is making the child take the oath before the 18th birthday.... So, sometime after learning how to understand human speech and learning how to speak English but before 18th birthday. This would have been interesting for me since I had a kid in January 20XX and moved back to the States two months later. Would have had to apply for an immigrant visa or something?

PC-12 Crash I expect this thread to go something like the rest of them... Some people know details. Nobody can talk about it. Something will be out on SIPR soon. Everyone is glad they are ok. We are reminded to wait until the AIB releases more details. So, does anybody know what happened here? What kind of mission were they flying when they crashed? I keed. But seriously, I'm glad they all survived.

I am one of the guys going to Creech because of the miserable wench that is called TAMI. Me and the other bros that are getting screwed over have talked over beers about drones and the moral questions that they bring up, the main one being "Is killing without any risk to yourself honorable?" I'm not talking about lobbing a JDAM from the bozosphere. I mean no risk at all. None. Or are drones just a part of the natural progression of warfare? i.e. fists-rocks-spears-arrows-guns-etc. I realize this is a pretty deep topic for this forum, but I'm curious what you guys think, specifically the old skulls who've been shot at and dropped in anger before. Discuss... P.S…

This is a no kidding story from our base. All of the following events did happen. The names have been omitted to protect the stupid. Some detailed information was added because it makes the story more real. The story was told second hand from a C-130 reservist working at our operations headquarters listening in on all the radios and speaking with most of the parties involved. This version is not very far from the truth. In fact, the naked truth is probably even more funny. An active duty crew from Texas is taxiing off the ramp with 50+ Army guys in the back. It's two in the morning, but still kind of hot. The wind dies down at night, the humidity kicks on and it can s…

Pilot candidates face cheating probe By Erik Holmes Staff writer Pilot candidates from the 80th Flying Training Wing at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, are being investigated for cheating, a base spokesman said Wednesday. The number of officers under investigation, their ranks and the nature of the allegations are not yet known, said Maj. Michael Young, the base spokesman. “They just initiated an investigation,” he said, “so it is really in its infancy.” Young said the wing commander alerted the base detachment of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations to the allegations on Nov. 3. The OSI began an investigation that same day, he said. All the o…

I've been reading a lot on here lately about non-continuation for passed over majors in the flying arena, and this is a topic addressed to the rated community only. I would love to see the reaction and hear the great stories of individuals who choose to be the best in the jet, and forego all the queep. A few questions to consider. - How did this individual affect morale in the squadron, and were they actually credible? - Would they have been better leaders if they had promoted based on flying ability and officership instead of exec strats and PME completion (in-res selection, etc...)? - Would it have been better for these individuals to help "run the company" f…
