Yep, I am a terrible runner, always have been. The only time I would run before ROTC was sprinting for baseball or the occasional mile run for P.E.. I am still very athletic if you can picture that, although some may not consider me athletic since I have a hard time with a mile run. But you get the idea. To give you a sense on how poor my endurance is, I have ver difficult time with the 1.5 mile test. I can usually run at a 7-8 minute/mile pace for about .5-.75 miles, then I hit a wall and either drop back dramatically or hurl, yes I know pathetic... The Cadre has been lenient with me because I am a newer cadet with no background in running or running sports. Also …

Concerns the Navy, but how long until the Air Force needs it? The Navy restored the Aviation Command Retention Bonus...a bonus Navy Commanders receive once they assume command. Looks like 36K for agreeing to serve a set period of time, or at least until they are fired. Is the Navy losing too many O5 command potential/promotable officers, or is command just that undesirable that the Navy has to shell out the dollars to get some interested? Not a good sign to have to compel/pay officers to serve in a command position. Don't get me wrong, I am all for bonuses in attempt to shape the force and keep critical skills (pilot, enlisted specialities), but command has always…

ive heard that you only get three chances to pass either a check ride or written test at UNT/Randolph, the whole time, and it is very realistic that one may drop out. on the flip side ive heard that you get like forty tries in UPT and you are basically forced through the program. how do the two compare with regards to attrtion and tolerance? Does the AF only use time in the AOR to determine the amount of reconstitution leave or do they use all time spent away from your home of record? I am deployed as guest help with another unit. I will have over 90 days deployed and will get another week of reconstitution if they consider time spent at the other unit (which is out of my State) as well as travel time getting to the AOR and back. Our Log Plans guy back home is telling me that they only use time in the AOR to calculate the leave while the unit I am with says they count all time away from home. Which is it and can someone point me to a specific reg?

Got grief from Tampa approach today for following a TCAS resolution advisory even though we had the traffic in sight. Vol 3 talks about it being "imperative" to follow any resolution advisories, but there is no must/shall wording I could find. My feeling is that we did the right thing, especially considering the RA could have been for some other airplane we might not of had in sight. (ie. we could have had eyeballs on the wrong plane) Third RA for me in 2 weeks...should be done with them for now I guess. Anyway, you guys have any thoughts? Edit...looking further 202-v3 pretty much says you have to follow an RA. The more my gears spin on this one the more I think t…

NOTE: Search performed on the topic - Nothing Found - Please attach this to another rant or something if I somehow missed it, please. Am I alone in my frustration and down-right ANGER regarding people that don't stand up, nor place their hands over their heart while the National Anthem is played / sung at sporting events (or other locations, for that mattter)!? Look, I'm no old-head... I'm a young buck Captain that's only been wearing our nation's uniform for 9 years... but this is something that's bothered me since I was a ROTC Cadidiot. I had the privilege to serve on the Color Guard and present The Colors at many sporting events. I was amazed, shocked, and in awe…

I am down here at pilot training and a friend of mine (also guard) said that there is a way to have your unit bring you back home over the holidays and get you per diem. Now he seemed to think it was called something like "tdy recall" but when I called my unit they had never heard of it and I was just wondering if anyone else has? Thanks

Just curious how many ops groups out there have banned flight suit wear except for performing flight related duties? We were told it was due cost cuts but solutions to counter that were not heard. Anyone else not getting to wear flight suits as the UOD?

Im wondering why do some guys crush the backs of their flight cover, so the back sticks up? Others will make a the back flatten out in the back. If you arent seeing what Im saying. When you put the cover on push the back down, it creates a tail look. Can anyone tell me why? I heard a few things. In WWII the flight caps were crushed by the headset, and it stuck. Another one was that guys with tons of hours "can" do it. Then I heard that fighter/bomber guys wear the crushed-back-tail-sticks-up (USN speak ducktail) And the heavy drivers wear the one with the back flatten and sticking out back. If anyone knows the reason please let me know, and the correct …

Does anyone know the Air Force, well military, definition and difference between a mishap and an accident? We found out about the types of mishaps but that is about it. It's for a class here and our Captain is telling us he doesn't know of one but the teacher is riding our ass about it. Any help would be appreciated. [ 20. Pretty cool gig... LeMieux: Tyndall to Gain T-38 Detachment BY: Unattributed , WMBB News 13 11/30/2010 Washington, DC: U.S. Senator George LeMieux (R-FL) today announced the Air Force will be sending a T-38 detachment to Tyndall Air Force Base. The ten T-38s will provide dedicated adversary support to the F-22s currently stationed at the base. “This is fantastic news for Tyndall Air Force Base and the Panama City area,” said LeMieux, a member of the U.S. Senate Armed Service Committee. “This detachment will complement the existing F-22 program operating out of Tyndall. Bringing more planes to the area will also bring more jobs, increasing economic activity thro…

Anyone heard more than what was printed in AF times or online about TAMI 21? Im a B-52 copilot elgible to fill one of the 200 some slots. From what Ive heard it is going to be mostly UAVs with very few actual AFSOC flying jobs. What kind of deployment or ops tempo is going on in the MC-130 or the U28? Trying to decide if it is worth volunteering or not for a flying job, or if you know about UAV positives/negatives that would be good too. Thanks. Maxwell

Hello folks, I'm a T-38 stud and my dream sheet is due next Friday. I wanted to ask for advice from some of the seasoned dudes around here who have experience doing the mission and know the ins and outs of combat aviation and what it really means to be an operational fighter pilot. There are a few things I know with absolute clarity: 1) I want to be a fighter pilot, period, dot , the end. 2) I want to have a kinetic impact on whoever it is we fight, i.e. rain hate on bad guys. 3) There is an incredible amount that I don't know that I don't know. Given those conditions, I want to ask the question, if you had to go back and talk to your ~24 yr old self about to fill out you…

At my last unit, if we wanted to read a safety report, the safety shop printed them out with the caveat to personally hand them back later that day or the next day for accountability. I just in processed to a new unit and they flat out refused to even pull it up saying we had to have a "need to know" which is determined by Wing Safety to the squadrons, and then there will be a mass brief to the squadron. This strikes me as odd... I pulled up 91-204 and got this: This the new norm or an AETC FTU "perk" ?

How much leeway does the student have in deciding where to go on a cross country at pilot training? Does the IP assign a destination or can the student have input? I know it probably depends on the IP and what phase or track you're in, but I'm wondering if the student can plan a XC to somewhere they want to go (within reason).

A couple weeks ago Charleston came out with a new policy that requires the following when flying with WG & OG leadership: - Crew BIOs submitted in advance. - AC and SQ/CC brief flight (local or mission) profile to the WG/CC or OG/CC three days prior. - AC meets/salutes WG/CC or OG/CC at the aircraft door. - No "excessive" FLIP or PRO gear allowed in the cockpit or crew rest area. Today I stopped by AFE and discovered that several new VIP shelves have been added to the front lobby so the brass can get their gear 6.9 seconds faster than the rest of us. I wish I'd seen the pitch meeting where it was suggested that the most easily accessible …

I know Clearedhot posted a thread to get people's best moments in the jet, but I think it would be cool to hear about times where you wished you were somewhere else. I asked this same question to MajGen Wurster at USSOCOM, and he had some stories that made me question whether or not I could handle military flying. :(
