Article from the Associated Press discussing the advantages of Satellite based flight data recording over traditional "black boxes" in regards to commercial aviation. Interesting read. Aviation Thinks Outside The Black Box.

Forgive me if you've seen these already. I'm sure a few of us around here haven't... The rest of you, come with me." - U.S. Marine Corp Gunnery Sgt. "Though I Fly Through the Valley of Death ... I Shall Fear No Evil. For I am at 80,000 Feet and Climbing." - At the entrance to the old SR-71 operating base Kadena, Japan "You've never been lost until you've been lost at Mach 3." - Paul F. https://www.aviationtoday.com/av/military/Boeing-Awarded-AWACS-Avionics-Modernization-Contract_76388.html I thought this was only a rumor. But we'll see how many tails actually end up with the upgrade.

Seems like the majority of folks dog the E-3, I was wondering if anyone has any good stuff to say about being an AWACS pilot. I read the "flying around in circles" and "stay out of the iron triangle" arguments from old posts, but it seems like it wouldn't be too bad being in ACC if you can't get into fighters/bombers. Do AWACS folks go to Red Flag and weapons school? Any talk of upgrading the jet? I'm from Oklahoma and wouldn't mind being able to stick around the area for some of my career, so any input would be well appreciated...

There was some discussion on another post about IFT and I'm not sure how many folks on casual or prior AD know about APT. We have T-38's as well as U-2's here at Beale. Right now we have 1 Global Hawk but it's remote controlled and hasn't flown in over a year so that's besides the point. Anyway, the T-38's are used for currency/profeciency and the backseats are usually empty. I was lucky enought to find out about the APT program through one of the pilots here. I had my first of three egress classes today and will start flying this week or next. For those of you on casual or currently working in another AFSC like me, you can fly as "APT" status with 3 things: …

My bro created an app that helps reduce the time required to review notams. It's especially helpful for local flying. Check it out and post your feedback here! https://itunes.apple.com/app/id921275153 The trick to the NOTAMs is that once you've scrolled through them, you just swipe away the ones you don't want to see again. Now the same stupid NOTAMabout some tower that has no impact on you doesn't show up every time you look. Obviously, this does not substitute a thorough NOTAM review. It's only available for i-devices right now. I may port it to Android if it has enough interest.

Does anyone know the convention that the USAF uses in its B-courses? I can't find any regulation or any other document that dictates how it is decided. For example 16-EBG at Luke or 15-BBH at Holloman. They aren't always the same even at the same base. Does anyone know what or how the letters are decided? Thank you for your time! Redshift

I'm a T-37 FAIP who was on my way to the F-16 and recently lost my single seat medical qual by a BS medical diagnosis(Wheat Allergy). I am now limited to a crew type aircraft(F-15E doesn't Count). I'm having a hard time choosing between the bomber & Airlift lifestyle. I've always loved the B-1 but after being in Del Rio for 5 years, I'm craving a good location. Question- In your opinion-Is flying the B-1 in a moderate location, exciting and challenging enough to overcome the Lifestyle of Charleston, seeing the world, and logging more flight time? I'm trying to weigh all variables, lifestyle, location, excite :o ment, comraderie, etc. What are your thoughts?

Surprised this didn't make it to the forums. This happened on May 1 and initial reports were vague https://www.reporternews.com/story/news/local/2018/05/01/abilene-based-b-1-bomber-makes-emergency-landing-midland/570523002/ Yesterday however Task and Purpose had this pretty interesting article. https://taskandpurpose.com/b-1b-lancer-emergency-landing/ Granted this is hearsay and rumor at this point, but damn, if this is true helluva job by that crew Breaking News: Hero B-1 Instructor Pilot and crew land B-1B after in flight emergency (IFE). On May 1st, 2018 a two ship out of Dyess Air Force Basedealt with a situation …

https://www.acc.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123445666&source=GovD 4/20/2015 - WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- The Secretary and Chief of Staff of the Air Force have directed the realignment of the Air Force's B-1 bomber fleets and Long Range Strike-Bomber program from Air Combat Command to Air Force Global Strike Command, effective Oct. 1. The move will realign the Air Force's core mission of global strike and all of the service's bombers under a unified command responsible for organizing, training and equipping Airmen to perform this mission. "This realignment places all three Air Forces bombers under one command and brings the LRS-B program with it," said Secretary of the…

Hi, Did a search but I couldn't find anything on the topic. I'm an ROTC cadet and I'm curious about how a B-2 pilot would get moved around because I know they're only stationed in MO. Are you at Whiteman for most of your career besides the occassional TDY? Thanks in advance
