Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

OK, this forum has generated some miracles in the past, so I'll give it a try… I am looking for a Yugo or East German bayonet for an AK-47 (specifically, an M70AB2). If anyone has any sources or knows of one at a good price, drop me a PM or post here. Not looking for a standard AK bayonet, need one in black (hence the Yugo or East German specification) and in new or near new shape. I'd prefer a Yugo, but I am not choosy if the price is decent. Cheers! M2

Found out I'll be at Maxwell through deer season. Does anyone have any good info for non-resident white tail and possibly hog hunting in AL? I'm down for driving anywhere in the state on the weekends. I'm not much for outfitters (don't desire to pay $1400 for a white tail hunt), but if that's the only realistic way to hunt I am not against it, assuming I can find something reasonably affordable. I appreciate the help any of you can lend. Also, if anyone else here is going to be in AL for the first month of the early gun season, let me know if you want to put a trip or two together.

  3. I couldn't get a straight answer at MP. Do any of the experts know if I give up my current FL residency, how will it affect my wife's FL residency? i.e. Does she have to become an AK resident as well? From a political perspective, I'd like to stay a FL voter, but I'd much rather become an AK hunter/fisher. We'll most likely pull the trigger anyways, we just want to make sure we know all of the consequences first. Thanks for the help.

hello, im in AFE trying to be a fighter pilot for my unit, and im looking to get the pilots upstairs some alcohol for the Hollidays. I thought it would be a good way of getting my name out there more to the pilots I haven't met yet and just to be a team player. this question is more towards fighter pilots, but if you drink a lot and know the goodies, what kind of drinks, ie. whiskey, vodka, Jeremiah weed, etc. was the best you've had? I want to buy something that they would enjoy, but not spend too much mula. I appreciate your guys' help. happy Hollidays!

2020 keeps delivering. Phosphine, a significant biosignature, has been discovered on Venusian atmosphere. News was leaked today with a press conference expected tomorrow. No known chemical process outside of labs or microbes is known to produce it. https://astrobiology.com/2020/09/phosphine-detected-in-the-atmosphere-of-venus---an-indicator-of-possible-life.html

This is primarly aimed at the guard dudes.. Just recently I was hired by Lockheed as an engineering manager on the JSF..(which I am fukin stoked about, and dont want to "burn any bridges")with a start date of april 20. They know im in the guard, but what they dont know is that I just got selected for a pilot slot. I am not going to turn down the UPT slot. I have heard dudes saying "get your foot in the door then tell them your going to pilot training, and they will let you come back" My dates for AMS and UPT havent come out yet so im thinkin I have at least 6 months or so to work with lockheed. Anyone been through a similar situation?? I heard something about a reli…

I searched for an AFN thread, with no luck (God knows, the ridiculous adds deserve their own thread): Why in the holy hell is AFN still advertising the special operations gunner career on the MH-53, months after the airframe retired?

  14. I saw this on the NBC show "Rock Center" the other night and had never heard of this man. It was the story of Billy Fiske. He was an Olympic Gold Medalist in 1932 (Olympian in 1928) who also carried the flag in the opening ceremonies of the '32 games. He faked Canadian citizenship to fight for the RAF and was the first American born citizen to be killed in World War 2. 17. Hey, guys and gals. First, a disclaimer: I'm not (yet) in the military and just a long shot old guy trying to get a Reserves/Guard UPT slot, so I am not posting this from the inside. That said, I am a big fan of the financial world/retirement options and, in my travels researching squadrons and poking around their pages for info today, I randomly stumbled across this article that could be important to some folks. It basically says, if you're one of the fortunate ones that can max out your TSP at $18,500 and you're in the BRS with a match program, you want to make sure you're spreading the $18,500 in contributions out over the ENTIRE year and not maxing out early. Ac…

This is just a friendly reminder that nuclear warfare had its first of only two strikes on August 6th, 1945. This single event led to the cold war and the nuclear arms race with the Soviets. A toast to Tibbets and the Cold War warriors:
