Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

In the May/June issue of Airman magazine (pg 13), Capt Malinda Hammond, a Reservist with the 136 AW currently assigned to the 455 AEW, is pictured in a sanitized flightsuit with only a US flag and small 'FUBAR' morale patch on! (this is the scanned pic from the magazine) Now the question is, did she know she had it on or was she the victim of some shenanigans? By the way, in the online version of that pic, the morale patch was Photoshopped out! Also, it really shows the professionalism of the USAF/PA in that the "current" issue of Airman on their official web site is from March/April, and it is mid-July! And before anyone screams about my publishi…

Forty years later, Army colonel Henry Moak still loves his pound cake! Moak capped off his retirement ceremony by digging into an old can of military 'C' rations pound cake from 1969, which he brought back from Vietnam... :salut: to you, COL Moak, on your retirement! And for using a vintage P-38 can opener to open the cake! Cheers! M2 "Get some!"

  7. Long story short...PCSing and the truck was supposed to show up this morning to load my house. Driver calls around 0730 to tell me he has a flat tire, will b fixed shortly and will proceed to my house. Call back around 0900, tire almost fixed, will be in an hour. Calls me around 1100 to tell me dispatch has sent him to pick up a small load then come to my house. Calls around 1500 asking for directions, I figure out he drove 16 miles past my house. Arrives at 1530 and begins to load my house. When they open the trailer I notice 1/3 of truck is full and I have a lot of crap. I specifically ask if they will get it al on the trailer "no problem". At 0200 ...…

Holy fvck, this thing... Bacon Explosion Friends of my little brother created this monstrosity for a local BBQ contest. In a few short months, the thing went viral, and now they're being given $250K to write a cookbook of recipes just like this one. WTF--how can I get that job?! Thought you guys would enjoy...if anyone makes this, post and tell us how it turns out! This may be the best justification I have for finally purchasing a smoker.

Can't imagine how thsi one could fail.... https://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,531940,00.html?mrp Michael Jackson's father, Joe Jackson, is lining up the King of Pop's children for a world tour as The Jackson Three — despite family members accusing him of trying to "exploit them like Jacko." Former Jackson Five manager Joe is said to have approached Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11, and seven-year old Prince Michael II — known as Blanket — to hit the stage next year. But one of Jacko's familymembers is said to be "livid" at the scheme, which will add fuel to the bitter custody battle for the youngsters. Jackson’s biographer Ian Halperin said yesterday: "Joe wants…

I'm putting together a DVD for my UPT class, with our videos and stuff. Part of the project is a menu that you can click through the class roster and see a bio/assignment for everyone. Now the proper music is essential. (I feel like I'm stuck in the final scene of High Fidelity) I need something that kinda represents the airframe/mission/assignment (location). I just need a clip of a song, 15 - 20 seconds. Can be serious/not serious. Some are easy, such as using stereotypical Hawaiian music for the C-17 to Hickam. I've already gotten a few easy ones, but need help on the others. Here is an example (minus the name...security and all): FAIP_example.wmv So anywa…

Ever since I have gotten out, I miss getting my daily dose of what is going on in the world (from a military intel standpoint). Does anybody out there know of or use any good intel sites (obviously unclass)? I still have access to Earlybird...which is just basically news clippings and I use sinodefence.com to keep up on Red China. FAS isn't bad, just a little biased.

What is the money grabbing ejit going to do when people start pissing into plastic bottles - or all over their seat - on his flights?

So enroute to the AOR on the rotator, we had a layover in an undisclosed country in order for them to crew change and fuel the bird. Thinking nothing of it, I left my PSP and peripherals in the seat. Come back out to the plane, GONE. The "airline" in question's response: tough shit, we don't reimburse for our shady characters taking your things. So take from my $700+ lesson and secure your stuff on your person, even when you are on the rotator and think that maybe, for some reason, your stuff might be safe.

In my limited military flying career, I've been rather impressed with the maintenance at my locations (they'll call it broken when its broken, fixed when it's actually fixed, and fess up and bite the bullet if it's their responsibility), but I cannot say the same of life support (this isn't an indictment of anyone, just a query to see if this is a more widespread problem or just a few isolated incidents I've had). Example 1: In our parachutes, there is a high-pressure Oxygen bottle that I was told as a BUFF guy "should always be above 1800 unless it's cold". Well, I'm flying out of Barksdale on a "cold" day in February and the gauge's needle was pointing below 1800 PSI…

With the threat of a Chavez invasion (backed by Nicaragua and Cuba) if the deposed Honduras president isn't reinstated, what do you fellas think we will do. So far President Obama denounced the "coup". From what I have been reading, the actions by their congress and supreme court were a result of Zelaya's attempted violation of their constitution as well as his contempt of the supreme court by pushing a referendum to extend his presidency just like Chavez did in Venezuela. Nicaragua shares a border with Honduras and they are not too far from Venezuela's Flankers. Discuss.

https://businessonmain.msn.com/default.aspx...l&gt1=25049 I'm not a big fan (pun intended) of MSNBC or MSN, but I thought this was kind of interesting. It goes to show that an identity and attitude are important and, while you can build around it, quality and output are still more important. Those who show pride in their work should be praised... To make this more clearly aviation related, they use these fans in F-16 hangars and they are featured on one of the ads shown in the news report. EDIT:Noob mistake...

I’d like to enlist forum-member’s help in locating any pilot(s) who might have flown the Sukhoi SU-27 Flanker, either in the US or otherwise. I have a very unique opportunity for the right person. If you know an FAA–licensed pilot who speaks English and has recent, verifiable pilot time in the Flanker, please have them contact me at SemperExcelsius27 (at) gmail.com. Although I appreciate the skill needed to fly flight sims, I don’t prefer to hear from anyone whose experience is virtual rather than real. Thanks in advance.
