Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Distinguished Baseops community, Wanted to post a "Get the word out" thread for not only these two individuals, but for anyone in the future who wanted to help Military members running for office. There was that one "Guest for Congress?" (not me) thread from a while back, but that was about that guy in particular. This is intended to be one in general for people running to help spread the word, potentially get advice, and anything else that may help them in their goal to continue to serve our nation, now as an elected official. I think we can all agree that if Congress had more members who wore a uniform at some point, our country would be better off. I know these …

In what is perhaps the most dystopian thing Biden and his extremists have ever proposed it appears we will now have a Disinformation Czar that falls under the Department of Homeland Security. Department of Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced that his agency is creating a “Disinformation Governance Board.” Is anyone paying attention? Does anyone care? If you swore an oath to the Constitution you should be appalled and shocked. The proposal gives this board the ability to regulate free speech, to take down websites, to control what the press reports. For the record, previous organizations like this only existed in Russia, Nazi Germany, Iran and North K…

I'd like to break this out into its own thread on money, finance, and government spending, and so it's being placed here in the bar. Before any discussion, here are some sources to share, for folks who want to do start their own research and verify claims. If we want to understand money, what it is and always has been, a good place to start is coinage (silver, gold and other commodity money): https://www.amazon.com/Making-Money-Currency-Coming-Capitalism/dp/0198709579 Desan shares great examples from the origin of market capitalism (the UK), for example how the end of the Roman empire lead the inhabitants of the British Isles to abandon coinage in 400AD …

I am a total space geek and have been reading up on the upcoming mission back to the moon. There is some SERIOUS turmoil in the community over the decisions that have been made. The orbital mechanics are VERY different and is many ways, more risky mainly because the ARTEMIS does not have enough thrust (Delta V), to conduct the mission the same way as Apollo using a low lunar orbit. Instead, they will use a near-rectilinear halo orbit (NHRO), which means there will be long periods that if something happens on the surface, they will have to wait for the return vehicle to come back in range. Apollo Flight Plans ARTEMIS Flight Plans N…

Source: https://www.airwarriors.com/forum/showthread.php/155343-Where-have-all-the-Fliers-(or-is-that-Flowers)-gone...long-time-ago Some interesting thoughts on current events. Sent by a retired Air Force F-111 pilot. Where have the Fighter Pilots gone? The Fighter Pilots are sulking in the Ready Room and waiting for the Skipper to return from the Psychiatric Ward and his girly man "Shrink" because he would not take the new "Don't Ask, Don't Tell Jack Wagon" for his wingman or much less in his Squadron! To think that a "Fighter Pilot" could sit in an air conditioned trailer at Nellis AFB during the d…

What I don't get is what he did that was so horribly illegal that it necessitated a "manhunt". AFIK, naughty language over PA isn't a crime, blowing a slide isn't a crime. Stealing beer is a crime, but not "manhunt" worthy. Either way, to this dude, I bet we all wish we could quit a shit job with such style!

I'd like to present a motion to remove the JQPublic Forum from BODN. I think JQP started out with an excellent mission - an insider exposing the many faults of our great service. However, I think it's very quickly morphed into a for-profit enterprise, with a diluted mission, and a very low signal to noise ratio. And now a pop up to ask for money. Exhibit A: Nothing more than a PA press release Exhibit B: Shameless paid advertising Exhibit C: More shit not worth reading Can I get a second?

Are there any other members of BaseOps that ride? Here's my bike...I took the picture during a great ride to the Wichita Mountains in OK: (2006 Kawasaki Ninja 650R) Riding to work is great, and I even agree with the USAF's demands about protective gear. I always dress for the ride with the required helmet, boots, and gloves...and I wear a leather jacket 99% of the time. My only complaint is getting on base. Lately, the guards have been insisting that they get to "hold" my ID instead of just look at it. With my heavy leather gloves on, it's next to impossible to reach into my wallet, grab my ID, and then put it all back in (sts) without dropping so…

The MP3 player I've had for 5+years (Creative Labs) has been dropped one too many times during a couple trips to the desert/PCS's and is on it's last leg. I've been looking at some 80G hard drive based players and have narrowed down to the 5th Gen IPod and the 2nd Gen Zune. I have about 20G of music right meow, and music is the primary focus with 2nd focus video's, and all the other stuff 3rd. Wondering if anyone on the board has either of these and what their likes and dislikes are: Ease of use of actual device, use of propreitary software, battery life, durability, etc. Cheers, Cap-10

I am looking to broaden my music preferences and understand the culture (what typical mil pilots would listen to). I am sure y'all have some exceptional gems that I haven't heard of yet. so, what was a repeat song of yours while serving/ flying or now? I know this kind of relates to "things to listen to while drunk on BO", but I can't possibly see myself drunk posting on a forum to people I dont know about music. no disrespect intended Biff, keep doing you brother. 😁 this one of the songs ive been listening t…

I'm putting together a DVD for my UPT class, with our videos and stuff. Part of the project is a menu that you can click through the class roster and see a bio/assignment for everyone. Now the proper music is essential. (I feel like I'm stuck in the final scene of High Fidelity) I need something that kinda represents the airframe/mission/assignment (location). I just need a clip of a song, 15 - 20 seconds. Can be serious/not serious. Some are easy, such as using stereotypical Hawaiian music for the C-17 to Hickam. I've already gotten a few easy ones, but need help on the others. Here is an example (minus the name...security and all): FAIP_example.wmv So anywa…

Just out of curiosity, how many people on here are contemplating mustache march? I'm only in ROTC now, but enough of my AD friends have got me thinking this will be fun. I'm rather slow in the growing department so me and my roommate started today. I'll even probably be going on spring break with mine. We'll also get the results back from big week while rocking these out. I'll attempt to post some pics once they get good. Good luck growing for everyone man enough to try john.

Found kind of a fun website, (Yeah I'm deployed and bored) where you can look up how internet pages used to look "all the way" back to the '90's. For example, here is the earliest version of Baseops I could find:https://web.archive.o...ww.baseops.net/ This appears to be from November of 2000. Here is Google from 11 Nov '98: https://web.archive.org/web/19990117032727/https://www.google.com/ Just goes to show you, nothing on the internet ever goes away! Here is the site so you can look up your own "Classic" webpages! https://www.archive.org/web/web.php
