Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Although this no longer applies to me, I got a copy anyway... What, having your finger up your nose (or head up your ass) is not prohibited? Apparantly not! The service medley thing on Fridays is also a new one on me. They actually expect folks in uniform to stand at attention under the full onslaught of the southcentral Texas summertime sun while they play the service medley? Well, sorry guys, I will be the civilian that walks around you and keeps on trucking. Everytime I get another email like this, I am a little more happier that I retired three years ago. Cheers! M2

https://www.airforce.com/supercar/ Not that the Army is free from this kind of stupidity. I saw a H2 decked out with competition quality sound system that looked fresh out of a Pimp my military ride show. I just don't understand what kind of recruit this is going to get. I came in because of Fighters and gunships, toys that cause lots of destruction. Maybe they are going to use the cars as “bonus programs”. Enlist today and we give you everything and want nothing in return.

Came across this and thought it was pretty moving. If there is anyone that would agree it would be the members of Baseops. https://www.militarytimes.com/multimedia/video/hancock/ :flag_waving:

Other than the guy screaming like a cowboy from Brokeback Mountain at times...this is pretty sweet. Anyone ever seen the live in cockpit footage they do at the USAFA graduations?

The head boss man seems more than willing to throw billions of dollars at businesses that are failing and for social programs for people who aren't working. At the same time, the military needs a whole lot of new stuff. IMO, a simple solution to both issues would be to boost military spending. Instead of cutting the numbers of aircraft we are buying, why not drastically increase them? People who have worked in manufacturing their whole lives are finding it difficult to "retrain" into a new job, so why make them? Put them on an assembly line at Boeing for new tankers, put them to work building new C-17s, F-22s, 35s, and helicopters. Why keep throwing money at car com…

Barbara Boxer: Please Call Me 'Senator' Posted: 06/17/09 Filed Under:The Capitolist Overheard at a Senate hearing yesterday: "Could you say 'senator' instead of 'ma'am?' It's just a thing. I worked so hard to get that title. I'd appreciate it." --Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) to Brigadier General Michael Walsh during Senate hearing Tuesday, when he the general repeatedly said, "Yes, ma'am," and "No, ma'am," when answering Boxer's questions at hearing she chaired on New Orleans' levee system. This almost started out in the security forces thread... Earlier in the week at work we got an email saying the cops were going through the parking lot and ticketing anybody's car that was unlocked (plenty of folks drive beater used cars and don't bother to lock them). By the time most folks got out to their cars to lock them up, they already had tickets. I would have figured it was just standard skycop lack-of-anything-better-to-do-itis, but it turns out they were directed. Well we had a WG/CC change of command ceremony last week and it turns out the new WG/CC directed the cops to do this. So for pretty much his first public action, a bunch of folks get tickets.…

Just curious, has anyone had any luck using the magic jack at any downrange locations? Seems like it might work on some of the non-mil internet access.

If this is half as good as "Band of Brothers", it should be kick ass. https://www.pacificfans.com/trailer.mov I always kind of hoped they would do an aviation type mini-series based on "The Wild Blue" or something like that, but shedding some light on the campaign in the pacific will be cool.

I’d like to enlist forum-member’s help in locating any pilot(s) who might have flown the Sukhoi SU-27 Flanker, either in the US or otherwise. I have a very unique opportunity for the right person. If you know an FAA–licensed pilot who speaks English and has recent, verifiable pilot time in the Flanker, please have them contact me at SemperExcelsius27 (at) gmail.com. Although I appreciate the skill needed to fly flight sims, I don’t prefer to hear from anyone whose experience is virtual rather than real. Thanks in advance.

In my limited military flying career, I've been rather impressed with the maintenance at my locations (they'll call it broken when its broken, fixed when it's actually fixed, and fess up and bite the bullet if it's their responsibility), but I cannot say the same of life support (this isn't an indictment of anyone, just a query to see if this is a more widespread problem or just a few isolated incidents I've had). Example 1: In our parachutes, there is a high-pressure Oxygen bottle that I was told as a BUFF guy "should always be above 1800 unless it's cold". Well, I'm flying out of Barksdale on a "cold" day in February and the gauge's needle was pointing below 1800 PSI…

I'm putting together a DVD for my UPT class, with our videos and stuff. Part of the project is a menu that you can click through the class roster and see a bio/assignment for everyone. Now the proper music is essential. (I feel like I'm stuck in the final scene of High Fidelity) I need something that kinda represents the airframe/mission/assignment (location). I just need a clip of a song, 15 - 20 seconds. Can be serious/not serious. Some are easy, such as using stereotypical Hawaiian music for the C-17 to Hickam. I've already gotten a few easy ones, but need help on the others. Here is an example (minus the name...security and all): FAIP_example.wmv So anywa…

https://businessonmain.msn.com/default.aspx...l>1=25049 I'm not a big fan (pun intended) of MSNBC or MSN, but I thought this was kind of interesting. It goes to show that an identity and attitude are important and, while you can build around it, quality and output are still more important. Those who show pride in their work should be praised... To make this more clearly aviation related, they use these fans in F-16 hangars and they are featured on one of the ads shown in the news report. EDIT:Noob mistake...

So enroute to the AOR on the rotator, we had a layover in an undisclosed country in order for them to crew change and fuel the bird. Thinking nothing of it, I left my PSP and peripherals in the seat. Come back out to the plane, GONE. The "airline" in question's response: tough shit, we don't reimburse for our shady characters taking your things. So take from my $700+ lesson and secure your stuff on your person, even when you are on the rotator and think that maybe, for some reason, your stuff might be safe.
