Possible Iranian state-sponsored attack plot thwarted

The FBI and the DEA have disrupted a plot involving Iran to commit terrorism inside the United States, a senior U.S. official told CNN.

The official said the alleged plan was directed by elements of the Iranian government and involved a plot to kill the Saudi ambassador to the United States.

Still developing but looks like some Iranian agents were working up a plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the US on American soil.

Yay. Another "slam dunk".

Can some people in other (read: tropical and nice) parts of the world misbehave so that we can go war there instead?

Won't happen. People who live in nice places are 20% happier overall, and don't get their panties in a wad and go to war over dumb stuff.

Goddammit. Gas just started getting less expensive.

On a more serious note, if this plot had come to fruition and Iran not only killed an Ambassador on our soil but killed dozens/hundreds of Americans at the same time would there have been any non-war options?

This could have been fucking ugly if it wasn't stopped.

That is if we found out who did it. They could have been successful without much evidence on where the wires crossed. Staying safe in a post 9/11 world has been ALOT of work and ALOT of luck.

This looks like Holder's attempt to deflect heat from Operation Fast and Furious.

Wow, cynical much? There's no way this could be a legit successful effort at foiling a plot that honestly fell in to the FBI's lap after DEA informants tipped them off... /sarcasm...

That's not cynical, it's skeptical.

I'm still skeptical it was an Iranian plot. Those IRGC is not known for sloppiness in operations and if they really wanted to F with us or the Saudis there are way easier and closer options than a place in DC. I'm not saying there wasn't a plot of some sort but the Quds is no amatuer show when it comes to operations.

Its likely the highest of the high-ups weren't privy to the plot. But Iranian gov't agencies appear pretty implicitly involved. The gov't leaders of Iran, just as in any country, are still held responsible/accountable when elements in their government are doing stupid sh!t involving other countries/assassinations/etc
