The Iran thread

Inflation / devaluation is the plan, they're just never going to tell you or me.

The only politically feasible path to getting out from under this debt load is to systematically devalue past labor by allowing future labor to buy those assets (and pay for benefits) at elevated prices so boomers and others don't have to suffer paper losses and the government doesn't have to "default."

The family has a 400,000 mortgage. Our combined income is 50K, but we're spending 60K. Also, we have 12K/yr in credit card interest we owe and which is accelerating, and we just decided to start paying the mortgage with the credit card too. How we doin?

Even if we wanted one, there's no way traditional way out. Raising taxes doesn't close the gap. You could confiscate 100% of the wealth of the top 10 gazillionaires in this country and it would fund social security for about a year and a half.

No political will to trim spending + no ability to close the gap with taxes makes all this inevitable. The only thing that could stop it (IMO) is large scale "additions" to the national treasury. Stuff like Venezuelan oil reserves.

  • I propose a toast:  To the incompetence of Iranian aviation.  Hear, hear! And  on a positive note, congrats to President Raisi: he quit smoking yesterday!

Classic wOkE LeFt move taking a trump post seriously. Bro when are you gonna learn this is just the way he rolls! The sitting president posting AI slop completely divorced from reality that he also contradicts less than 24 hours later is just him being his big boisterous self. This is normal and it's not a problem. I mean.. I don't love it, but like.. don't we have bigger problems to worry about?! Getting worked up about stuff like this is such a leftist snowflake move.

Now lets get back to a serious conversation and examine my unfalsifiable counterfactual that Kamala would have been worse

If Kamala tweeted the same shit at Trump, you'd be bald, blind, and exhausted from all the raging. And why do people keep thinking I'm left. No man, no. Conservatives can, and should, criticize Trump for his bullshit. Try it out vs giving it a pass. Meme that shit.

Hope not. I wouldn’t vote for AOC - and you guys think I’m a super libtard - unless you people run Trump jr. or Vance again. Would probably vote for Rubio over her. Please for the love of god stop making us choose between communists and whatever you guys want to call this. We need a reset.

Concur. Rubio has impressed me in his current roles...all of them and is certainly a more reasonable choice than AOC. If AOC wins...that is likely the tipping point and we are toast.

i have literally thousands of dollars in polymarket bet on AOC in 2028 that will pay 10-1

i'll be voting for her :D

AOC will be entertainment. She seeps a lot of spotlight because she is a semi fuckable young Latina with a mouth on her…her district is a portion of Queens and Bronx. She will flail on the national stage. Dems will let the DSAs have their circus then settle on someone safe like Whitmer or the guy that looks like he’s from the hunger games Newsome.

The only way she'll get my vote!

Right?

Honestly, watching that whole primary play out will probably be entertainment in itself. Same reason I’ll sometimes have https://tropical-casino.com/ Tropical Casino open on the side during a long political news night — jump through a few slots or live games while waiting for the next round of drama. Different kind of spectacle, but at least you know what you’re there for.

Also, this thread has definitely wandered a few grid squares from Iran at this point. Carry on with the political handicapping if you must, but let’s try to keep it from turning into a full-on 2028 thirst/horse-race thread.

Likely more to the story here…by that logic no family who had a loved one die since WW2 would have received a payout since there has technically been no declaration of war since then. But yes, the families should get paid and the Pentagon should unfuck this. Likely a tragic victim of the admin BS we are all so familiar with in the military.

So easy to confirm things now days....

The Reality and Government Correction

Following public frustration and media scrutiny, the US Air Force formally corrected the issue: [1]

  • The Explanation: Military officials acknowledged they had initially provided inaccurate information to the family. [1, 2]

  • The Resolution: The Pentagon clarified that Major Klinner's final paycheck did indeed include combat-related hazard pay and tax breaks. The issue was a pay-processing and communication error—the combat pay (which amounts to an additional $225 per month) had been included but was incorrectly itemized on the statement. [1, 2]

  • Policy Confirmation: The US military reiterated that combat-related benefits are not conditioned on a formal declaration of war by Congress. They apply to any service member operating in an area of physical danger or hostile fire. [1, 2]

While standard federal active-duty death benefits—such as the tax-free $100,000 Death Gratuity, ongoing monthly Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC), and Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) annuities—remain fully intact for military families, this specific case exposed deep frustrations regarding how the Pentagon processes and classifies injuries and casualties during the ongoing conflict. [1, 2, 3]

My understanding is that she is claiming stuff like Hazardous Duty Pay and CZTE weren’t paid out. But, the Air Force is saying yes they were, but showed up incorrectly on the LES.

I suspect she’s upset with the administration and thinks that this is a way to throw mud on their face by making these claims.

100% understand and am saddened by her husband’s death.. don’t know that this is the best way to honor his memory.
