  1. When you do watch the vid, you’ll probably think the Navy needs a school to emphasize fighter maneuvering and dogfighting because they have become too reliant on a-a missiles. disclaimer: not qualified to throw spears but what if they had that...
  2. They gave him 3 years over which to make the cuts, and he screwed the pooch by making them all in the first year...which then made us short people a year later when surprise the needs changed. That was unsat.
  3. Eff it, I can’t read good.
  4. The IPUG I went through deleted all academics on fundamentals of instruction from their syllabus. Will be interested to know if PIT has it or not.
  5. The Buff is also not one of them. Its aero model is a known liability.
  6. So the conclusion is “we don’t really know because there are too many variables” leaning heavily toward “the massive volume of air and flow in the outdoors is probably going to disperse it to a negligible level if you stay away from other people” with a side of “don’t run directly behind someone.”
  7. Good thing CMR crews never mismanage dual INSes due to task saturation during weapons employment at denied Combat Hammer vuls dropping the easiest weapon known to man. This particular comment is not glib. Real life. Edit: However, no I’m not a magician trying to connect errant CH drops back to primary training. Got me there.
  8. Benchmarked against what?
  9. UPT builds a baseline aviator. Erode that seat time, and you kick the can to the next training course and the next and the next to build in those basic airmanship skills that should have been learned earlier. There are things you do or know that only have happened because you have flown and developed habit patterns over the course of years of flying.
  10. Hey man, your claim was we can cut training because our aircraft and flying are universally way safer with newer stuff. I’ve provided you at least one example where that is not true, and it’s one they plan on keeping for 69 more years. My claim was cutting UPT kicks the can down the road, which is exactly what you are proposing in taking more FTU training time to teach the basic instrument flying skills that should be learned in Undergraduate Pilot Training. It’s your burden to come up with a new argument.
  11. Experience flying in general that has been reduced, to include the radar patterns you downplayed. Reductions in those things reduces the abilities of the average student, and in the B-52 let’s face it we’re getting something less than that.
  12. The B-52, for one, flying wise has roughly zero changes. It has new mission things, but the flying portion is still almost identical to what is in museums. There are reasons flying certificates have flying hour mins; average students need a certain amount of actual flight time.
  13. What if the skill we want is more time flying so they have experience? Edit: it is awesome that some corners of the AF have seen gains in safety through newer airframes and/or upgrades, but some of our airframes flight safety wise are almost exactly the same as 40 years ago. Reduction in UPT flight time in the seat is kicking cans down the road, cool VR things or not.
  14. It is a pretty cool setup the Air Force Heritage Flight has for training at DM. There’s an AF vet named Larry Grace who is there most years to take photos.
  15. Checks. And the idea sometimes floated of trying to integrate North and the South is incredibly difficult. Then consider it takes away China’s buffer from a close US ally, and you have to question whether they would let that happen. It really is all a mess.
  16. There’s a big it depends, but some of the long turn time items you can knock out early without a sep date. I think the TAPS is good for a few years now, and it is sometimes booked months out, so you could just get it done if you think you’ll be exiting. I think three months is probably a push it up minimum if you have TAPS done based on all the moving pieces...but I’m not an expert. Hopefully someone who has done a short notice exit can chime in.
  17. Yeah, I’m well aware of what the actual discussion was, I was just expressing my incredulousness at the vehicle with which the argument was being made. If I had to start over on that, I would have just dropped the, “yeah, but who’s getting the ATIS” grenade.
  18. Are we really arguing whether getting vectors to final or not makes you a good IP? Forget that whole mission part in the middle...
  19. Assembling to protest is far from outdated. With the ability of governments to silence and track digital communication, some argue it is more relevant than ever.
  20. Gotta do that environmental impact survey, it’s all the rage.
  21. SocialD is probably also weighing the time he could be working for more money at his civ job instead of being on mil leave.
  22. One of my new favorite activities is reading the fictional things Gretchen Whitmer has banned. One of the few things Twitter is good for. Recently: “use of the handshake emoji in text messages”
  23. I still buy CDs. I’m more a fan of the perpetual licenses, just pay once for it and be done rather than subscription type stuff. Plus, nearly everything I listen to is 20+ years old anyway.
