2014 Fort Hood Shooting
Even if it wasn't me carrying, I'd love to have an on-base CCW program. Just the thought that a few people may be armed and effectively resistant is a pretty good deterrent.

What's wrong with the Air Force?
It went over just fine last time I saw it happen. There are Muslim and Jewish chaplains. They pray according to their belief system. Allowing people their freedom of religion in a situation where you invite them to express their beliefs isn't weird at all.

Jalapeno Popcorn
Tried the pickles. It was good. They cook much longer than the jalapenos. Also, I've done the fresh jalapeno pepper thing. Be prepared for it to be much spicier than the jalapeno nacho slices.

Group Commander Feedback and Advice
1. Figure out the congressionally mandated reason your base/wing exists and do that extremely well. Everything else is secondary (even if you work support). 2. Provide direction and then trust the people and decentralize as many of the day-to-day decisions as possible. Encourage your subordinates to do the same for "their" people. 3. Know your people. Remember, everyone down to the lowest ranked Airman has a story and try to learn some of those stories. Mentor them in chasing their dreams and solving their problems for their own good and the good of the AF. 4. See below... Edited to add: Don't be the "good idea fairy." It's a proven path to failure. Every good idea will have negative consequences to somebody and often for almost everybody. Accept that and willfully choose the bads along with the goods. These decisions will have more impact on the culture of your organization than almost anything else.

What's wrong with the Air Force?
I didn't realize until you posted this just how many callsigns are actually just items you can buy at Home Depot: Tool, Toolbox, Hammer, Knife, Torch, Caulk, Rose, Grill, Padlock, Brick, Blade, Saw, Drill, Screw, Vise, Shovel, Hoe, Rebar, Board, Glue, and so many others. It's basically a callsign superstore.

Disagree. Yes, takedown is strange. But once you get it down, it's fast, easy, and requires no tools. There are a few good youtube videos that show the required TTP's.- Smart phone

Grandfather clause has been signed into law. I just love how the media is calling it a "boost to military retirement" or an "increase in military benefits." /sarcasm- FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)

So, you're saying there's no travel restriction in CONUS, but if you're under 26 and going more than 175 miles on the weekend you have to tell your boss and document your plan. Also, if you want to go to Mexico, you have to tell your boss and comply with any other restrictions on travel to Mexico. And the problem is? - Mustache March
