Gun Talk
Sorry I'm late to the fight on this one. I'm a big fan of simplex mech locks, thick steel, and protected hinges. The simplex lock never needs batteries and is almost completely silent (doesn't make that whirring noise) when you need it. V-line makes some pretty good ones, but there are other manufacturers too.

Any Columbus AFB guys out there? Request
Didn't you guys paint ceiling tiles, hang a class photo on the wall, chisel your names in one of the local boulders, or anything like that? A visit and tour of CBM might be the ticket.

F-16 Co-designer's take on the F-35
Might as well make it an RPA if it can kick the pilot out any time it wants anyway.

What's wrong with the Air Force?
I don't remember seeing a "Home of the Fighter Pilot" sign last time I drove through the Nellis gate. They did have a very large sign that said "Do it... safely".

Why Not the B-1 Instead of the A-10?
This is exactly the problem with both the F-35 and the littoral combat ship. You start with a great plan/design and by the time you've added all the "nice to have's", it's morphed into something completely different.

I think they didn't like being forced to debrief the incident.

More SARC briefings soon.
Totally normal timeline for a FAIP. All Sheppard PIT is done in house. Also, this never would have happened if the AF had contracted an actual athletic wear company (Asics, UA, Nike, etc...) to make the PT gear by adding the AF symbol to a proven product.

Why Not the B-1 Instead of the A-10?
I know it's tough to get through all 2000+ posts, but there was some great discussion on this exact topic in the during the last few months of 2013. I used to share the opinion that the bone was low hanging fruit if a plane needed to be cut. I don't anymore.

Let's bitch about the BX here!
I got a different excuse from the manager at the CVS BX. He said that the reason Cannon's BX is so small and has such limited hours has everything to do with revenues, not AD footprint. Since Clovis is a less than desirable location for many retirees, the shoppers are mostly AD. Retirees provide the backbone of AAFES revenues, so without them we were stuck with a small, understocked BX that closed early. I'd assume that's why the resort locations with high retiree populations have the extremely large BX's with all the extras.

2013 F/A-18 crash: Out of fuel, out of time and one chance to land
That was a tough read. They got REALLY lucky. Young bucks and future studs, take this story as a lesson. Know your GK. Understand your systems, especially what happens to them when something happens that's not routine. Understand how your airplane interacts with the world around it, according to the laws of physics and aerodynamics, in normal and abnormal configurations. Work with your crew. Mostly, never let someone outside your jet fly it for you. Of course, these guys didn't do any of that and they still made it back. Edited to add: My comments are based on the article as written and my own experience. That said, I highly doubt the accuracy of the media's portrayal of this incident. I'm mostly just glad that two fellow aviators made it out OK when things went horribly wrong.

Let's bitch about the BX here!
I purchased my golf clubs ($1299 set) for 90% off ($129 out the door) because they were the previous year's style and the BX just wanted them off the shelves to make room for the identical new model with minor color changes. I can't tell you how many times we did the same thing buying clothes when I was an E and we were living on base years ago. Bad business practices = a great deal for frequent shoppers that know what to look for.

Let's bitch about the BX here!
I submit BX vs NEX food courts as evidence of how the BX could emulate to improve. BX = Taco Bell, Charleys, and (if you're lucky) a Blimpie NEX = Five Guys, Rubios, and Panda Express Of course, they both sometimes have Subways
