  1. Saw this new one during one of the college football games yesterday. Surprised to see an old friend and a really good dude featured in it. I don't know what's changed, but this is the first series of AF ads that I actually like.
  2. Wouldn't it be "chr'd phx egl brd"?

    They jump just fine...once.
  4. I hear there's an opening for an air traffic controller at Chicago Center.
  5. First one delivered.
  6. Interestingly enough, the Army's new Scorpion W2 OCP looks very much like the woodland BDU's of yesteryear. I guess that's the go-to for joint uniforms. https://soldiersystems.net/2014/08/02/us-army-photos-scorpion-w2-operational-camouflage-pattern-variant-army-combat-uniform/
  7. If the Army gets this one going, we could call them the "Starship Troopers". I like it.
  8. This goes here.
  9. Oops.
  10. Base housing is nice and full of IPs. Missile rd, especially just north of Missile is nice. If you want to live out in the country, try Iowa Park or over by the Red River east of Burk. Burk itself isn't bad if you want the small-town atmosphere. The Tanglewood area just north of Seymour Hwy is really nice and very popular with IPs. There are also some great older, but well established areas to live around the university (especially to the North).
  11. Quite simply, who kept their fridge continuously stocked with beer and the door to their room open.
  12. I thought this was...
  13. Sorry, I won't flame since I agree. This is how it was when I came in (enlisted comm at the time). I wore blues unless I was doing work that required getting dirty, which was about half the time. Everyone in the legal office, the MPF, finance, and the med group (except nurses and IDT's who seemed to only wear BDU pants and a black shirt for some reason) wore blues all the time. MX, except senior enlisted leadership and officers, got dirty so they wore BDU's. Then we started having BDU Fridays. Then we all started wearing BDU's all the time when Gen Jumper wanted us all to have combat awareness since we were all warriors. It was around that time that creases and polish started being emphasized on BDU's even when you had just been performing hard manual labor. In fact, there seemed to be a little bit of a shift from mission focus to uniform appearance focus around that time. Like I said, I agree. Wear what makes sense for the job that you're doing when homestation. Have your uniform right, whatever uniform that is, and focus on the mission.

  15. Article with much more info and pics.
  16. It takes a truly brave man to put his raw self in such stark public relief. I hope he is able to find peace and that his courage can bring peace to others.
  17. Can you PM or post the updated program info? If there's no change from Infamous's post #21, that's cool too.
  18. I've always been a fan of a "national service corps". Mandatory two years of civil service once you decide your education is complete. This could be after high school, bachelor's, or even professional education (med, law, etc). Job and pay are commensurate with education and can be assigned according to a dream sheet, similar to the military. Although many people would (and should in time of war) be assigned to the military, you get assigned wherever in government you're needed. There would be a 4-6 week "basic training" at the beginning to impart life skills and up to six months of trade specific training afterwards. This gives a minimum of 18 months of contributing work time. Once the two year term is concluded, you can volunteer to continue in military service, or elsewhere in government if you want to make it a career. Everyone starts their adult life with some amount of education or trade skills, two years of work experience, and two years of independent life experience. It's the best way I see to dig us out of the adultalescent hole we've found ourselves in and get young Americans back to work.
  19. Maxwell AFB is being considered for housing illegal immigrant children. Link
  20. So, the AF Times put together a list of all the CONUS bases ranking quality of life according to "everything from school quality to the local economy, crime rates to traffic, and climate to on-base amenities, such as commissaries". I don't agree with their list and am pretty surprised by where some of the bases ended up. I'm curious what everyone's opinion is of the best base. Here's the AF Times list.
  21. AFI 36-2903 para 8.4.7 specifically allows US Flag, wing/group/center emblem, and school patches. Although subordinate instructions or local policies can be "more strict", they shouldn't run directly counter to the parent reg. It would be the equivalent of saying "even though the AFI says to, on this base we're more strict, we don't wear hats with our ABU's."
  22. Photos ETA: For guys with triggers, a few of the pics contain bodies, some in pretty bad shape.
