Mostly just to see how light I can make it. Forgot to mention it will also be getting an Aimpoint Micro T-1 for an optic and a different set of BUIS (the Troy BUIS in FDE currently on the gun I just had laying around). But when I am done with it I expect the reliability to be on par with any of my other AR-15s. I know there is a lot of suspicion about polymer lowers but aside from it getting run over by a tank I have no doubt that this gun will go bang every time I pull the trigger.
  2. Just who we want molding/setting the example for future officers...
  3. Said it was carrying cargo and pax hitching a ride to remote islands. Granted I have no idea what the usable weight is on a herk but I can't help but think some combo of weight and balance might have been a contributor...

Well getting off my ass and finishing my lightweight built. I'd say I am 80% done now, just missing a lightweight BCG, lightweight buffer, gas tube, gas block, and pinning the muzzle device. I'll gain .8 oz with the V7 gas block and maybe .1 oz with the tube but then plan to lose a bunch with a high end BCG. The barrel and hand guard are not torqued down. I only put them on hand tight to check and make sure everything fits. So that's why there is an egregious hole between the upper and handguard. For reference, an unloaded milspec M-4 weights 6.36 lbs.
  5. Devil's advocate: That's all good in theory until someone back in Washington says we need to visually ID the target before engaging.

Just dropped some coin on some gucci lightweight parts for my AR build. For all you AR addicts be warned: https://www.vsevenweaponsystems.com/will hurt your wallet.
  8. Someone didn't think this through... First: The two pictures aren't of Hugh Jackman, they are of Christian Bale. Second: Hugh Jackman isn't American, he is Australian.
  9. Can we send a bill to Lockheed and/or Pratt for that?
  10. Shit I hit 329.7 in ~60 days and thus timed out on my 90 day. Been back 3 weeks and still can't fly a local because nothing has dropped off yet...

  13. Based on Breckey's avatar...I'm guessing he means the HH-60.

  15. Don't knock down a cone with a red ball...duh!
  16. I think the big issue was there never was a slide/scram call. We got briefed exercise trip numbers but not like we can TCAS tag the red air and have any SA, we are completely dependent on the AWACS giving us the threat call...which they never did. I don't remember the exact RF but it was the one with the Columbians, after day 2 our tanker detco got so tired of catching shit for us getting shot down he pushed for us to not be able to pass gas if we started taking losses. Needless to say that idea never got off the ground, since then the entire exercise would be wasted if the fighter guys couldn't get their gas (understandable but maybe they should start tasking some DCA to cover the HVAA guys). Anywho, at least in Alaska there is a chance of us landing before the vol ends. Vegas they usually make us sit and orbit and recover last...annoying. I need to win my money back!
  17. Every time I've been in an exercise where the red air went after a tanker they were successful. And the tanker usually didn't even know until after they had landed that they were shot down or even targeted.
  18. Not including Lockheed would be a good start...
  19. What interesting statistics you present...I have found some that seem equally relevant:
  20. That is a damn sexy airplane.
  21. Considering an E/F model Super Bug is $60.9M each (source: Wikipedia) while the C/D model is listed at $29M in 2006 dollars, I don't think just taking the 1998 cost and correcting for inflation is a realistic metric of what a Block 60 should cost.
  22. I'm still not sold on TSLA. They only turn a profit by selling carbon credits to other major car companies since they have zero emissions as a company. TWTR right now has taken a beating after they missed some quarterly goals...I'll probably drop a couple K into them and see if I can make 20%.
  23. So if the only reason not stuffing a guy back there is due to poor Boeing engineering/planning then why doesn't the A330 MRTT have a boom pod?
