But who says I have a pistol with a brace? That’s the point. I don’t have one, I’m simply applying to build an SBR. That’s how the F1 process works. The NFA is bullshit, don’t get me wrong, but there’s so much misunderstanding about the process. It’s actually fairly easy and there’s no way for the gov to “trap” you, unless you’re a complete idiot and do something like submit a pic of a fully assembled SBR to the ATF on your app.

@FourFans130 That’s not correct. You do not assemble an SBR until getting approval. The F1 simply provides info like serno on receiver and lengths. Submitting a F1 does not mean you currently possess an SBR, it means you intend to build one once you get approval. If someone is the unreasonably paranoid type, they can feel free to stash the lower at a friend’s house and keep the stock and upper at their house…an ATF raid on your house (which isn’t going to happen) would not produce an SBR.

But how would they know you have an “illegal” SBR (outside of you taking your pistol to a range and a LEO/ATF walks up and ask for your approved F1)? I fail to see any logic in how this ruling auto makes everyone with an AR pistol somehow on a “registry.”
  4. Also, a common misguidance is “well I just don’t need that much money.” Totally agree, but what you will value for sure is an exceptionally large increase in QOL (with ability to choose whenever you want to give up some off days to make all that money to pay cash for the kitchen remodel your wife wants). I significantly underestimated QOL gains, it’s a real thing that just can’t be realized until you break free of the only work life you’ve known since you were 18-22ish.
  5. Yes, “settle.” As a “169% sure I would never want to be a lame airline pilot” Capt, I’m here to say Capt me was horribly misinformed and misguided. Based on my experience, lots of young Maj and earlier types think being a GS-13 flying fighters until 55 is the holy grail. Turns out only a few guys in the entire ARC think that way as they actually get older, and I’m glad to have the few that go that route and still contribute. Say all this to the younger guys - there’s about a 98% chance you will not feel that way after a year or two into the ARC, so plan accordingly for life after full time AF pilot.

That video is a retarded argument. If you sent a picture of a fully assembled SBR as part of your F1 app (which is absolutely not a requirement) you’re a total idiot. This is fearmongering at its finest; and I say that as a huge proponent of firearms and a massive hater of the NFA.
  7. That’s pretty fucked up.
  8. So they changed flows/callouts and handed them out on a pamphlet with a slap on the ass and a “go get ‘em boys!” Sounds awesome.
  9. What happened? Only have seen snippets about changing cockpit protocol or other gray language like that.
  10. It’s financially non-sensical by a long shot to stay in and bypass years of seniority. You have to value certain intrinsic/non-monetary things far more. Nothing wrong with that, just stay in with eyes wide open and understand the long lasting ramifications of your decision as a young O-4. Spoiler: You can hit all those things in the guard, so really there actually is only one logical choice! I kid…sort of.
  11. Out of likes today, but Merica, fuck yeah!
  12. Always loved watching the ACs lay waste, very satisfying.
  13. Old grumpy guys are bitching, everyone else is pretty much good with it. This likely passes handily. Of course everyone didn’t get everything they wanted, but I think the majority see good gains and far more pros than cons. There are always people who think negotiations means one side (pilots) must win 100% of every demand or else it’s a fail; why it’s a shock that some things are a company win is beyond me. It’s called negotiating, not winner takes all in combat to the death. Curious to see ALPA’s pros v cons papers.
  14. That’s what I was thinking too, good to hear someone with way more crewed experience say that.
  15. Mid-summer 2020 is a good line for enough data available to call with near 100% accurately everything that has happened and is “just now” coming up. Prior to that I’ll give anyone a pass, after that people were simply lacking critical thinking skills, too lazy to research beyond media headlines and “expert” talking points, prioritized emotions over logic, politically polarized to the point they’ll happily walk off the cliff if that’s what the party says to do, etc. For those who woke up late and acknowledged it, good for them. I hope they have the maturity to do a self-debrief and identify how they fucked up and what they can do next time to avoid the same mistake. Because there absolutely will be a next time.
  16. One thing in that type of situation I don’t understand SOP-wise is how the FO can “never” say the word “abort.” It’s “say what you see.” Which I completely get 99% of the time. But in the event of an incursion and possibly killing hundreds of people, I feel like I would say abort and we can talk about it later. Takes too much time to say “AA is on our runway” and too much risk of getting a “huh?” from the CA. In such a time critical scenario, why would I ever be descriptive before directive. Curious what guys say who have done crewed flying longer than me.
  17. The best times are when you arrive early from a short flight (BOS for ex), spend 50 min (longer than your flight time) taking laps because ramp is the most incompetent group of people on this planet, and 1/2 of the pax moss their connections. JFK is the worst. As to the DAL TA, looks like some pretty solid wins in QOL and pay. It’ll be good to see the pros/cons papers, but overall seems like way more wins than was expected. Of course that won’t stop disgruntled assholes from complaining and saying we didn’t get 100% of everything desired, therefore it’s a NO. I bet this passes very easily.
  18. Those are all certainly at play, but follow the money and power; there are absolutely “elite” class members who are purposely pushing things a certain way via multiple lines of effort to increase one or both of those metrics for themselves and their class peers. It’s not really a conspiracy theory, as it’s written all over world history books as long as recorded history has existed. The problem is Americans are incredibly naive because they believe things like, “no way the US could ever have czars like Russia did,” or “no way our gov would do mass firearm confiscation as a precursor to the complete destruction of individual freedom…like has happened hundreds of times, every time, in history…hmmm.” Those things and everything else written in history can and will happen here if we let it. Americans need to stop being naive and lazy, else they are completely complicit in the destruction of our great country.

Agreed. And they can go fuck themselves on a registry. Only ones I own are my NFA items!

You have 120 days from the ruling to register an SBR without paying the tax. You can only register pistols that were in your possession at time of ruling. So reality is you’re limited by how many lowers you have currently; legally limited by how many of those lowers are currently set up as pistols. Here are the FAQs from the ATF: https://www.atf.gov/rules-and-regulations/docs/undefined/faqfinalrule2021r-08f-correctedpdf/download FAQ Final Rule 2021r-08f - Corrected.pdf
  21. Too many things are passed off as coincidence; I don’t believe in coincidence much anymore. But I sure as fuck believe in widespread and constant incompetence!
  22. Indeed. It’s funny how minds work when one can’t explain something, but only due to a lack of specific knowledge that they don’t know they don’t have, not because they’re dumb or aliens are taking over.
  23. Wasn’t meant to be a spear, I’m honestly interested in learning. You’re right, I can’t directly compare the two, hence my question. Your generic answers makes it sound like it is pretty similar to mil ops, but doesn’t seem like that’s how at least this one went down.

What I’m trying to say is if you have ever had a background check/bought from an FFL, there is a paper trail of you being a gun owner. Now sure you may have lost that specific firearm, had it stolen, or sold it privately. But, they still know you’re a gun owner as a general statement. There is no hiding it unless 100% of firearms you’ve acquired over your lifetime have been private.
