I think he clarified well from what was initially being reported.

1. Russia likes to think that Eastern Europe is in its sphere of influence, even if Eastern Europe doesn't feel that way. Hence, they get all uppity about the US putting defense systems there. 2. It's probably not even about financial benefit, more that they like to screw with Western strategic interests just for the hell of it.

I'm no expert, but you're talking about two different systems for two different threats. The new plan will utilize Patriot missiles to address short to medium-range missiles, because that's been seen as the current threat. Nothing wrong with that, but it's wrong to turn this into an either/or question. What happens when Iran gets a long-range capability and we have nothing in place to stop it? The location has to do with having to intercept a missile at a certain point in its flight to be effective. Russia's complaints hold no water because Russia is too close to Poland for a Polish-based interceptor to be able to intercept a hypothetical Russian missile (not to mention Russia has a lot more missiles to overcome friggin 10 interceptors).

Well to clarify, POTUS and POUSSR...err Russia only agreed to commit to negotiating an updated START treaty. Given that Russia won't seem to budge until we cancel the European missile shield, I wouldn't say said cuts are a guarantee at this point.

Agreed that there is no value for them in nuking someone. Just saying that having conflict on your border isn't a good thing, even if you're not involved. In violation of weapons sanctions that they approved in the Security Council? There are some Cold War holdovers that Russia/China like to mess with, but this isn't one of them. North Korea truly is isolated.
