It's not just the fact that the military should be left alone in running a recruiting office. In another light, the office is just like any other business in the city--they rent space for their storefront, are obliged to follow city codes etc. By the same logic the City Council would then seem to have the right to order a local, law-abiding restaurant closed for no apparent reason. I don't think you'd find too many people in favor of that one. Granted the ideological issue is different, but I'm sure there are people who have issues with where Starbucks gets their coffee from, and I don't think we'll be seeing those closed anytime soon.

Yep. I also read that they might change the constitution so the prime minister will have more power. Some things never change. And people gave me "The Cold War is over!" quips when I began taking Russian in college. All I have to say to that is

Kind of expected this to happen. They tried to make their stupid statement and ended up with egg on their face. Now they're trying to reverse it and pretend like it never happened. Not like this is the first time a Bay Area city has made some stupid anti-military statement.

Well for one thing, a good number of service academy grads do career military (not sure of the % but higher percentage as a whole than ROTC/OTS). Hence, you're going to see more in the higher ranks. Different mindset I guess?

Eh I think they take applications from civvies, but since they only have a handful of slots per year almost all of the people picked up for it are prior enlisted OSI.

I do see a number going through ATL. My guess was that some are new grads from basic at Ft Benning, I guess a lot transit the airport since there are several major bases in the South.

Someone on another board I post on said he's a Guard weapons loader and claimed to have loaded two-seat Vipers for combat operations. I was a bit skeptical since I was pretty sure that they didn't use those in combat; however, I'm in no position to call BS. Can anyone clarify? Thanks.

The only thing the public cares about is that they no longer get their crappy airline food on many routes.
