Private Pilot License (PPL) questions
Seeing as I'm going to be a poor college student next year, I'm obviously not going to have enough money to finance a PPL as well as whatever other expenses I have. Any ideas, save enlisting in the Guard and using the GI Bill?

Lifestyle of Helicopter Pilots
To summarize... Guard units are located at Elmendorf, Moffett, and Westhampton. Reserve has a rescue wing at Patrick with a geographically separated squadron at Davis-Monathan.

Aircraft Carrier info
Just to clarify the air wing structure-each wing (which is called Carrier Air Wing 1, 2, 3, etc) is made up of different squadrons with the different aircraft. From what I gather, the different squadrons change with each deployment. So if, for example, VFA-102 is on the Enterprise this year, they might be part of the Stennis wing the next.

Aircraft Carrier info
Yeah once you make O-6 you have a chance to get command of a ship (even some O-5's are ship CO's). I think the carrier CO's are all former aviators though.

Off to War
Wouldn't the funding for equipment fall partly under the state's jurisdiction, and therefore a lack of equipment would be due to what's happening in Little Rock and not in Washington? (forgot to add this earlier) I watched part of the second episode (I've seen the whole series) today, and was particularly annoyed at that part with the 4 black guys in the SUV talking about how the black man has it bad and has no choice but to join the Army, rapping about how they don't want to go to Iraq, why they hate GWB, etc. Gimme an F'in break. [ 13. Cool CBS Herk clip
Bad choice of words. Just meant that it's more "reality" then the usual positive publicity associated with a similar clip showing aircraft power. Keep kickin ass. [ 16. January 2005, 14:47: Message edited by: wannaairlift ]

?s on ADSC (Active Duty Service Commitment)
Yes sir. 10 year commitment after UPT, should've mentioned that.

?s on ADSC (Active Duty Service Commitment)
AD commitment is 10 years now. You can apply for PALACE CHASE while on AD and finish 3 times your commitment in the Guard/Reserve (i.e. if you had one year left on AD you'd do 3 in the Guard/Reserve). I think you needed to have done 8 years on AD though before you can apply for that, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Red Flag
I'm sure this wasn't your intention, but do remember there was that incident in Afghanistan...

which transport/tanker would you pick
Now now Tyler, no one likes a gloater... Anyway, as far as the original post, my list would look something like this: C-130 to Ramstein -135 to Mildenhall (despite my "English chicks" comment Europe is Europe after all...) C-17 to Charleston C-17 to McChord -135 to MacDill and so on... [ 23. December 2004, 00:42: Message edited by: wannaairlift ]

Errr...don't you mean 29 Apr 05?

which transport/tanker would you pick
OK lemme put it this way, Ramstein would probably be better in this respect?

ANG IP's
Not that I'm aware of, though some ANG units do run RTU's for specific aircraft. Here's a list: https://globalsecurity.org/military/agency/usaf/ang-aetc.htm
-
ANG jets
Hey I said it was my guess not fact. OK I have no clue why then.
-
ANG jets
My guess is that because they're not located at AFB's, rather at civilian airports.

The other side...
-Why don't you just change your name to Mike? -Why should I change MY name? HE'S the one that sucks! :D

USMC/Marine Aviation
I've also read that the USMC is in need of jets. And in the USMC, you're trained as an infantryman, so if you're needed, you will become one.
