  1. Got to roughen those delicate hands up. It’s either comfortable shooting or continuing to go through 69 oz of Jergens a week…your call! CH in retirement…

  2. I started investing my flight pay as a 1Lt using dollar cost averaging. Just put money in every month because the market will increase over the long term. I quit adding money to that account years ago when I was hired at an airline. That account has had some serious ups and downs over 40 years but is now approaching 7 digits because time in the market usually beats timing the market.

  3. A fellow CGO who got selected last year, who's currently there, told me folks PCS'd as early as Feb/March. And per the PSDM release, the older you are (like me, already having an Age Waiver), the more likely you'll get an earlier PCS date to Pensacola (UCT) training... but, (at least at UCT), it seems like their training is getting backed up, causing a delay in classes, and folks stuck in the pipeline.

  4. I can't believe we've gone this far without someone rolling in with a "UPT 2.5, wings after T-6, back in my day" rant yet.

  8. Per the memorandum, "Officers selected for rated duties from the UFT board may receive short-notice assignments and/or training as early as March 2024." So, if we get assignments for Feb, it's officially confirmed, they hate us.

  10. 🤷‍♂️ 😆 But thanks! I was hoping for pilot, but the more I researched CSO, now I'm excited to earn a spot on the F-15E or AC-130! Being selected with an Age Waiver ETP, if I reject this selection I will not be allowed to re-apply again.

  12. @Lord Ratner What? He’s young and should get started on long term investment. Now is absolutely the time to put money in things like a SP500 index. A simple index will massively outperform his 2.99% debt. It’s also lower risk than buying individual stocks. Your advice to not do that is either retarded or you’re assuming he wants to cash out the hypothetical investment in a few years. If it’s the latter, I see that point, but also cashing out in a few years is exactly the opposite of smart long term investing. I DGAF about 2008, and the simple reason is I didn’t lose my mind and pull out all my investments. I now have tons of gains from the very money I “lost” in that time period. If I was 60 at the time, it would have been different, but I was in my 20s with tons of time to wait it out. Buy early, buy often, have patience and emotional control = all someone needs to do in their 20s to build a solid base for retirement.

  13. Back in the day when the joke was "How you get your own F-16?"... Buy an acre of land near _______ (fill in with nearest F-16 base) and wait.

  14. Another Russian surface vessel that now identifies as a submarine! If nothing else, every branch should all be thoroughly concerned with figuring out defenses against drones.

  15. Running a mix of slug and Double 00 Buckshot. It does when it goes boom 🙂 I love it, the only flaw I've found is the front grips are REALLY rough and spiky. I shoot using the C Clamp method and minus gloves it will tear your hand up. Garand Thumb does a great review of this gun and he noted the same. He suggests you sand it down a bit which I plan to do this weekend.

  16. Not sure on how current UFT drops are working work, sorry. Having done the process twice previously though, here's how it went for me: Back when I went through Nav school with Magellan, we were a class early in the FY and my flight commander was quite gregarious and had made great relationships with the folks at AFPC, who happened to be co-located at Randolph. He apparently regularly went over there, brought candy, beers, told tall tales, charmed the ladies, etc.; god bless you Capt. Gerry. Long story short, when our drop came up he had us all fill out dream sheets a bit earlier than typical, and then went over to AFPC and tried to acquire the jets we wanted. He succeeded wildly! Everyone in our class got their first or second choice, understanding that folks who kinda knew they were near the bottom didn't ask for the moon. He then released the final class ranking and aircraft list the day before the drop and said, "Look, I got you all what you wanted, but you are free to change your minds. We'll pick in rank order from these airplanes. Good luck!" Our class held fast to our dream sheets and basically everyone walked away happy. It was a great night! I got hammered at the Auger Inn in volleyball shorts and a sports bra (Olympics themed drop night haha), eat your hearts out gents 😘. When I went through URT more recently I was a Guard guy so who cares how it went, right? I already had my assignment; problem solved. But for the active duty kids they got to rank MQ-9 or RQ-4 #1/#2, and for MQ-9 got to list I think a top three locations (e.g. Shaw, Creech, Cannon, etc.). My flight commander there (who was much less cool) then did some voodoo based on his judgement, what was available, class rank, etc. and we all just found out when we were called up in no particular order at drop night. He never even released our actual class rankings other than the DGs at graduation. Most people were fine, especially since the range of choices was much smaller to begin with, but the problem IMHO one of the dudes who was a DG (i.e. either #1 or #2 overall in our class of I think 23 studs) didn't even get his top aircraft. The flight commander in an executive decision assigned him to MQ-9s at Creech when what he really wanted was RQ-4s. Truly puzzling to (mildly) crush the dreams of a guy who worked his butt off and performed extremely well. OTOH another guy (not a DG but a top third performer) got the first-ever MQ-9s to Hurlburt so he could be close to his kids that his ex had anchored to NWFL. I got hammered at the Auger Inn once again dressed up as a woman (Captain Marvel for an Avengers theme), so there's a bit of a trend-line here... May the odds ever be in your favor!

  17. Pretty much the same except they don’t say airframes available (at least they didn’t at Sheppard when I went through with Orville and Wilbur). We wore told how many engines we had in the drop and we all tried to figure out what the combination was when our resident crusty bastard came in and said “It’s 3 Buffs, one with an engine failure, and the rest of you washed out”. God Bless you Guido, wherever you are.

  20. So doing the overanalytical investigation that we all like to do, I looked at last year's group on here and saw some people getting notified 17 days after they were notified of selection by commander. So roughly 10 days following the PSDM went public. Gotta give people their 7 days to decline assignment and alternates to get notified. Rough guess. Sent from my SM-G986U using Tapatalk

  21. Well I’ve been away for sometime and happened upon BaseOps via some checkride stuff. Thought I’d visit the old forums and check out my favorite thread Gun Talk. Nice to see some of the OG posters still participating. All that said… I can’t abide by the Beretta shit talk haha. 92X Performance purchased from LTT with their trigger job. I eventually sent it back to them for an optics cut and now it sits as configured in the pictures below. And in action:
