The concern is the VPN itself gets hacked and then everything you're sending gets intercepted when you think it is GTG. Not a problem for us, at least not for a little while yet. Also, may be just the free or lower end VPNs, so could be defeated/mitigated by using a quality subscription. Kinda like a home break in or mugging, random people like us just need to make it difficult enough for a bad actor to chose another target. A national politician or celebrity needs a totally different level of protection. I strongly agree with using a VPN for the things you said and I use one myself 100% of the time I'm not on my home internet. Will be interesting to see if that holds true in the long run. I think it will for the higher end subscription ones like Nord. When traveling, I think you'd be borderline crazy to not use a VPN for a hotel wifi. And you would think that just using cell data is fine, until someone makes a fake cell tower and intercepts data that way, which is happening.

On the parts website to make sure it matches. Lesson learned, skip the VIN on any parts search. My guess is Carfax or someone like them buys the data from the parts website to increase their own database, so when you search for a new bumper, the assumption is there was an accident that necessitated a new bumper. A poor assumption as it could have been bad factory paint, or maybe I just wanted a new bumper. But by the time I realized it, it was too late to challenge the data, assuming there even is a way to challenge the data. VPN wouldn't help with that as no one relevant to this has access to any of my internet data (at least that we know of....). I use a VPN anytime I'm not at home, to include my phone. There was an interesting recommendation from some cyber think tank recommending high profile individuals to actually not use VPNs so obviously they're not a magic bullet. Luckily I'm pretty much the opposite of high profile.

OK, so how long does it take for one to understand the ropes? Impose reasonable term limits with that in mind. I say that number is 1-2 years. If you can’t figure it out in 2 years, you’re not smart enough to be in Congress. Set limits at 12 years, which means there’s plenty of congressman with 8+ years of experience to help lead, and teach, the process. It’s not rocket science.

Several major problems they have been trying to resolve for years, two with the engine, one with the rotor blades. 1. There is an issue with cracking around the engine exhaust, for years Boeing blamed Rolls Royce and of course Rolls Royce blamed Boeing. 2. Dust ingestion degraded engine performance faster than originally anticipated. Part of the problem is the type of dust encountered in the middle East and Africa. I believe they have tried twice to redesign the inertial separator. They reduced the engine wash interval and implemented a FDAC temperature increase in an attempt to reduce build up. The CV-22 has TOLD like any other airplane but obviously they don't have V speeds, instead they rely on performance measurements that tell how much power and performance you have at current temp, weight and power production. One of those is OGE which simplified defines your climb performance on one engine. 3. Rotor blade wear and tear. Again the type of dust encountered is far more abrasive than the designers thought it would be, at once point blade replacement interval was down to 100 hours. On the subject of the rotor bladed important to note the rotor width is not optimized aerodynamically. The Marines controlled the airframe design and a driving requirement was the ability to fold it up and fit it on a boat. As a result the rotor diameter is smaller than it should be to get the most out of the engines. I only have a little over 200 hours flying the CV so I am far from an expert but I enjoyed it and when it works it is a game changer. One of the funnest things we did in Africa was set 60 nacelle and fly low along some of the smugglers routes in Ethiopia. At 60 nacelle you can comfortably fly 50' at 100-150 knots and it was rock solid, like driving an old caddy down the highway. The smugglers would see us, bail out of their trucks and jump in the ditch as we blazed overheard.

You only need a 3rd class medical to fly as a student and once you get your PPL. Why are you trying to get a 1st class medical? HIMS (and whatever your specific, related situation is) isn’t going to look good, so if you do get an interview, be fully transparent, honest, and discuss how you’ve learned, become a better xyz, etc. PPL is subjective; some units hard require it while others will hire a guy with 1 hr of flight time. So it may not matter a ton, but it is guaranteed to help you in many ways, so certainly keep pressing towards that goal. You’re old to be starting this process - time is your worst enemy right now. If you’re going to take a shot, start getting apps together right now and throwing them in. Even if it sucks now, maybe you send in a much improved app a year or two later and that gets noticed. You never know unless you try.

I’m a military brat and started with USAA. They were great back in the 80s and early 90s. We had multiple houses and auto through them. First strike was in 2006 when they would not insure a new house for the price we bought it, they wanted to insure it for about 30% over. They fought us on reimbursement when our military moving truck rolled over during a PCS. We dropped them for home but kept auto until our next move when they were about 30% higher than Progressive. We dropped USAA and haven’t looked back. They were high priced and provided shitty service. Another story, USAA almost tanked my buddy’s home sale. Buyers insurer insisted on a new roof. Sellers company insisted roof was fine. As buyer and seller were about to part ways, they asked, “who do you have your insurance with.” Both were with USAA.

My wife and I had been dating for about 1.5 years. As my UPT date approached, we weren't sure what to do. She was still in college. I was going to be in BOQ in Columbus. How was she going to visit and how often? I proposed on a Thursday evening. We went to the courthouse Friday morning and got married. Then we called our parents and I called CBM and said I needed a house on base. Arrived there a week later and got to work making some kids. That was 26 years ago. Now we have grandkids. I wanted to fly and I wanted a family. There is absolutely no reason why someone can't do both. Granted, you gotta choose wisely, but going home to a house after flying, having a dinner at a table every night, getting laid, and having someone to be with... I wouldn't do it any other way. That said, I sympathize with you. The quality of women available to men of your generation is absolute shit. good luck.
