I am currently putting an application together for Portland, New Orleans, and Vermont (and any other ANG fighter units that come up over the next several months). I just got my scores back from AFOQT and TBAS: AFOQT: Pilot: 94 Nav: 97 Acad Aptitude: 99 Verbal: 99 Quantitative: 99 PCSM: 63, based on 10 flight hours I will have over 20 when I actually apply bringing my score to 71, with a max of 91 with 201+. I also wanted to get advice on letters of recommendation, as I don't have many contacts within the military. Would it be better to get a letter from someone I don't know as well who is in the military or someon…

Hello gentleman, I'm an Officer in the Army National Guard. 5 years ago out of college I applied to a bunch of ANG units and got selected for UPT with one. Everything went smoothly until I had a color vision issue at MEPS (since resolved) which ultimately railroaded me from moving forward with flying in the ANG. I was pretty beat at that point. I was reading the thread in the Aviation Medicine section how the AF has since changed their color vision policy and scoring chart on the CCT exam. I have taken the CCT in the past and have passed it to the now AF standards (I took it under the old standards but not at an AF physical). Ultimately, how feasible is it to d…

  9. Basically the title. Over a year ago I was prescribed a anxiety medication after a death in the family and my 7 year relationship breaking off. I only used it for less than 3 months, and I have a records stating that I'm in perfectly clean mental health now and it was just that time period...does anyone know if this prevents me from becoming a pilot? Thanks.

Hi folks, I'm looking to like to apply for a USAF pilot slot in near future. I have no military experience, but several of my buddies are and after hearing their stories, I know this is definitely something I want to do. Here's my scores. AFOQT Scores: Pilot: 98 | Nav: 87 | Acad Apt: 62 | Verbal: 32 | Quant: 88 PCSM Score: 76/88 (no hours/with flight hours) Age: 23 GPA / Major: 2.76 in History I just started working towards my Instrument Rating if thats important, anyways, how do these scores fare? Thanks for the feedback!

  12. Hey guys and gals. I’m a prior service army dude looking to convince someone in the Air Force Guard or Reserves to pick me up and send me to UPT. Big preference on fighters, however, I’d be happy flying a cardboard box so I’m open to heavy’s or anything else except UAS. I’ve had my fair share of deployments so if I could return to war in something designed to fight, I’d be pretty stoked. So to keep it as brief as possible, here’s a quick synopsis of my current qualifications: PCSM – 98 AFOQT – Pilot 99 / Nav 97 / Acad 66 / Verbal 76 / Quant 52 Flight Experience – I have over 3500 hours in 23 different aircraft that include anything from military helicopters to…

  13. Started by FlyingH,

So, I gave the officer process a try back in 2016 and didn't get selected. My AFOQT scores were pretty bad 30s-50s. PCSM was a 10. I really didn't take the test as seriously as I should've. GPA wasn't great either, 2.6. (General Studies) Now, I've enlisted and leave for BMT on May 2nd. I'd still like to give like to give the officer process another shot. I'm going for pilot or CSO. My main concern however, is my age. I'm 25, so it doesn't look like I'll have too much more time to try and get selected." My current plans are to get a PPL once I'm in, and take a few courses towards my masters to raise my GPA. I'll also study harder and retake the AFOQT, but I'm…

I am 35 and pursuing an airguard or reserve pilot slot, no previous military. I understand to not self eliminate and let them tell me no. But a majority of the job postings state in the requirements that I must be no older than 30 to 34 to apply (depending on the attachment), while some others state no older than 34 by start of upt. Furthermore, the units I call ask me the age question right away, then say no thanks. So do I only apply to the VERY few that don’t state age requirements, or still send my application package to every unit and hope I don’t piss off a wing because I can’t follow directions. Take bogidope for example. Only one out of 15 posts does no…

Hello, I’m a 23 year old TSgt crew chief at a fighter unit. pilot-86, Nav- 65, AA- 30, V- 52, Q- 16 PCSM-91, with 102hrs and instrument rating 3.1 GPA and a business degree. The AFOQT quantitative score is pretty ugly, but other than that I feel like I’m fairly competitive. Have been on many deployments with lots of experience. Would like some input. Thanks

Hi all, I've been lurking for a long time but this is my first post. I'm a non-prior civilian, currently working on a package for an AD OTS pilot slot. My package has some really strong components, but there are also a few weaknesses. I haven't taken the TBAS yet, as I need a recruiter's endorsement to get access to the base near me where they offer the test, and recruiters are slow to respond to inquiries (I know this is normal). My main question is whether the positive aspects of the package outweigh the negatives enough to make me a competitive applicant to ANG fighter squadrons. I think I have a good shot at the AD OTS slot, but I'm also considering the guard. …

  17. Okay, this took me a while to get around to posting, mainly because I feel surrounded by some really smart folks on here. Be brutally honest with me and while I am not using this as an excuse, let me give you some back history on how I ended up where I am today. Back in April, I had ZERO clue people could just apply to the Reserves or ANG to fly with no military flying experience until one of my friends got picked up flying C-130s. That’s when I discovered this form, Bogidope, etc. So fast forward to May, I found a few units I wanted to rush and knew I needed to take the AFOQT and TBAS, but since I wanted to apply, I rushed myself (ill prepared) to take the AFOQT and TBAS…

Hello all, Disclaimer: It is still too early for me to be making applications to any units at this time. But, I am trying to improve myself and my resume early. Goal: My goal is to get a slot in a Guard/Reserve unit that flies fighters (F-15 and -16 primarily) or C-130s (MAFFS unit or AFSOC). About Me: Summed Up: Current GPA - 3.7, towards a B.S. in Aeronautical Science/Minor in Organizational Leadership, but will be switching majors next fall (Explanation below) Age: 21 AFSC: 2A6X4 (Taking this coming spring semester off from school to go to Basic/Tech), MT ANG, E-3. Hi everyone, So here’s what I got: AFOQT Scores: Pilot 99/ Nav 93/ AA 98/ Verbal 94/ Quant 97 PCSM: 66 with 39 flights hours (87 @ 201 hrs) Additionally, I am 25 year old mechanical engineering grad with a 3.2 GPA, working for a large aerospace company. I would really like to try to go for fighters on the reserve/guard side but I feel my pcsm is abysmal for that. I plan on re-taking my TBAS (as my first time taking it I was coming in on very little sleep after a long flight the night before.) honestly how do my chances look? And if not for guard, what about for an AD pilot slot? thanks for the input everyone!

Hello all, I have what may be a somewhat unique situation that I haven't really been able to find an answer for. I separated active duty about two years ago from the Air Force as an O-3. I moved to a state where recreational marijuana is legal and experimented with it twice when on IRR. Later, I started taking flight lessons and saw a Guard UPT board announcement and am considering applying for multiple Guard/Reserve slots in multiple airframes since I am still under the age limit. Would my experimentation disqualify me from a UPT position or a security clearance? I was not on active duty at the time and not taking flight lessons at the time either. For r…

  22. I've posted before, civilian with a decent shot that is applying to the 910 AW (local). I've got some good networking / seem to be liked there, but they could have an enlisted guy who's been waiting to go or someone otherwise more qualified than me so I'm not getting my hopes up. As for my preferences, the general A10 mission is my favorite but I doubt I'm competitive enough to apply to a base like the 122 FW. The 910 AW is top pick for me considering their unique mission and the fact that its local. I don't care about fighters much, but maybe because I'm not taking into account close air support missions. After that, I guess beggars shouldn't be choosers. Right now…

Hello all, Got all my scores back today. Pretty disappointed. Probably going to re-take both AFOQT/TBAS again. My plan was to apply to both reserve units and ANG units. GPA: 2.66 in Marketing AFOQT pilot: 59 PCSM: 63 with 81 hours. Score estimated to be 67 if I can get to 100 flight hours. Recommendations: F15 pilot with confirmed MIG kill who can speak to my airmanship Ret. AF General who can speak to my work ethic Sr. Flight Instructor/owner who can speak to my airmanship/work ethic (I work at the flight school) I know for a fact I can get a better pilot score on the AFOQT. Here we go: I know this is a longshot, but if I can envision it, I'm going to make them tell me no or die trying. I got into UPT a short while ago via the active duty UFT board. Into Phase II, I self eliminated. I had a good reason: my spouse has a specialized career and requires re-credentialing with every PCS which results in 3-6 month processes per move and lots of out of pocket fees, which wasn't sustainable over a period of 10 additional years. Additionally, I have a sick grandparent and FIL, and my spouse and I both felt it was a priority to move closer to home. Yes, I'm looking to go back to UPT via a Guard or Reserve unit. Yes, I'll need an ETP sin…
