I am trying to figure out where I would fair for OTS and UPT selection and what I should focus on. I have recently contacted a recruiter but haven't heard anything back yet. I just started a PhD program but am reconsidering my life in research science. I've started studying for the AFOQT, but feel fairly confident at my ability to score high. I have a good math and science background. I'm also a paramedic and been involved in EMS for nearly 10 years. Undergrad: molecular biology 3.18gpa Masters degree: molecular biology 3.65 GPA High scores on the GRE 94th percentile verbal reasoning 60th percentile quantitative reasoning I'm 27, I'm in real…

Hello all, Long time lurker; first time poster-- Open to any feedback, recommendations, critiques, etc... Becoming a fighter pilot, and officer, for the United States Armed Forces has been a lifelong goal for me. However, lack of citizenship and money made it difficult for me to afford any type of flight training throughout high school, and left me short on the prospects of doing college and any sort of ROTC back in 2010. As a result, I opted to earn my citizenship by enlisting as Active Duty Navy, and trying to earn a commission through one of the handful of Enlisted-to-O programs. I went in as an Aviation Machinist Mate, and managed to get stationed wit…

Hello gentleman, I'm an Officer in the Army National Guard. 5 years ago out of college I applied to a bunch of ANG units and got selected for UPT with one. Everything went smoothly until I had a color vision issue at MEPS (since resolved) which ultimately railroaded me from moving forward with flying in the ANG. I was pretty beat at that point. I was reading the thread in the Aviation Medicine section how the AF has since changed their color vision policy and scoring chart on the CCT exam. I have taken the CCT in the past and have passed it to the now AF standards (I took it under the old standards but not at an AF physical). Ultimately, how feasible is it to d…

Hi all, I'm currently a senior at Texas A&M University planning on graduating December 2020. I'm casting a wide net for guard/reserve units and I'm not picky about airframes. I'll be visiting the 187th AS up in Wyoming this weekend and they seem like a top notch group of people with a fascinating mission to boot so they're currently my first pick. Here are some stats: -Major: University Studies Geography, GPA 3.0 -Minor in Meteorology, Minor in Parks and Natural Resource Management -AFOQT: Pilot 98, Nav 87, AA 84, Verbal 94, Quant 63. Will be taking the TBAS soon. -18 flight hours, post-solo but progress is slower than I'd like due to maintenance,…

Old guy here at 35. Here's my story: 10 years ago I got my PPL (about 47 hours) and applied to a guard unit, was told no, but that I was heavily considered (fighters). Reapplied the next year and they said no again. Looked through other avenues for a couple years but recruiters (Navy and USMC) said I wasn't a strong enough applicant for Aviation. At the time I didn't really have much useful employment experience (was a freelance musician.) I ended up squaring my life away and pulling myself up by my bootstraps by getting into a great civilian career in healthcare IT. I decided I still wanted to serve my country, so I enlisted into the Army National Guard in the Infan…

Hey everyone! First off, merry Christmas. 2nd I know I’m a little behind the game applying I just found out you could be a reserve pilot a few months ago, let alone not be a pilot to apply. ANG is the only route for flying within a 3 hour drive for my wife and I. Shoot it straight for me. Scores as follows: Pilot 94 Nav 78 AA 67 Verb 67 Quant 62 PCSM 57 w/5 flight hours. GPA: 2.872 in Poli sci and religious studies (I went full liberal arts in college and first half was rough) I’m a 30 year old firefighter working in a city in New England and have been for the last 5 years. Worked for a large insurance company before that but traded the money to b…

I've put off making this thread for months. Back in December I took the AFOQT after almost a year of waiting. I studied my ass off for it and studied the way everyone said too. I purchased the Baron's book, the Trivium Book, the online practice test from AFOQT academy as well as several PDF files of AFOQT, ATSB, SIFT practice tests. To practice I used scan tron sheets to simulate the time and real testing environment. I took two weeks off of work up through the testing date to make sure I was fully prepared and had plenty of time to study. On practice tests, I was regularly getting 90s-100s on each subsection. I went and took the test, felt I did well and three weeks late…

Greetings, Is it possible to go through Navy OTS and pilot training, do 2-5 years of active duty, than transfer to an Airforce ANG unit before the obligation period? If possible, is it looked down upon? I read here that transferring from one service to another is possible - , however I assume that's after one's commitment period?

Hi there, Rated assignments just dropped and I was hoping for a pilot slot however I was picked up for an RPA slot. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about getting moved up into a pilot slot or what the next steps could be to move into the pilot career field. I really wanted a pilot slot so this news sucks however I will not give up. Thanks for any information anyone may have.

Gents, I've been toying around with the option of not staying in the Marine Corps once my initial commitment has been completed. This is due to a multitude of factors: 1/1 deployment to home ratios, aging airframes and declining flight hours, etc... That being said, each and every time I come back from a DCA, AI, or BFM flight I swear I'd sell my soul to keep doing it. I'm curious about the ANG and Reserve options, and I've done a fair amount of research, but I still feel relatively in the dark when it comes to the Air Force as a whole. Would a first tour, 4-ship Hornet flight lead be competitive in potentially getting selected for an ANG or Reserve Fighter unit?…

Hello, I have taken the AFOQT and TBAS. My AFOQT scores were 90/89/87/93/72. My PCSM was 65. I have, 2 flight hours (intro flights - was in a tough spot financially for awhile but wanting to go back and do more). 2 principal questions: 1) is this PCSM crap? I have no idea what the scale is; and 2) while I'm sure it's recommended, would getting more flight hours/ a PPL be dispositive or decisive on an application? I understand that for ANG it is likely to be, but for the active component? Thank you.

ATTN: Experts and Professionals that know everything about AD Rated Boards! (Posting for S/O)Here is my personal rundown: I am a non-tech major with a 3.6 GPA, I made a 78 on my Pilot and an 85 on my Nav. All of my AFOQT Scores are a 78/85/57/37/23. I took my TBAS Friday and made a 40 for my PCSM with no flight hours. I really am confused about how I made a 40 or how it is scaled because I thought I only missed 10 or less. I have a lot of leadership experience, community service, managing positions, etc. I am worried that my PCSM is going to ruin my chances despite the other scores and my personal packet. I really don't know if I would even be able to get en…

(Posting for S/O) Hello! "I have posted a few months ago about my chances to getting selected for a pilot slot in the rated boards in February. My question now is this: My recruiter called me and told me my commander that I interviewed with put me as top of my class that is going for the same boards. While I am elated, I want to know how much this is going to help my chances to get into the boards? Does this have a lot of pull or is it just a formality? I will attach my last post so you can see my test scores and background." 24 Years old. My degree is a BA in Theology, I have a 3.6 GPA. I have years of experience in managing positions with numerous people u…

Just wanted to get some feedback on chances for a pilot slot or CSO slot with the Reserves or ANG with the scores that I have, or if I should retake the AFOQT and get some flight hours. AFOQT Score P:54/Nav:74/AA:48/V:68/Q:32 B.A. in History GPA: 3.28 A little background on the total person, because I understand those scores are most likely lower than the average, I was a Division I swimmer and was captain my senior year. In addition I worked very closely with the Athletic Department and was a representative on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee as well as the Intercollegiate Athletic Board. I also coached swimming at the Club, High School, and C…

Good afternoon, I'm currently a 21 year old (22 in October) working on my package to be submitted when I graduate from my university. I been in touch with a recruiter and he told me that the Air Force OTS Rated Slots are only looking for Stem Majors. I surfed the internet web and found contradicting statements regarding his claim. If the recruiter's statement is false, I have listed my credentials and experiences below. It would be awesome if you guys can give me some feedback on how to improve my chances of being selected. Age: 21 (22 in October 2017) GPA/Major: 3.36 (can raise it to 3.4 before graduation)/ Marketing AFOQT Scores: I have yet to take…

OK, so I have interviewed twice (once at my home unit and another elsewhere) now with no luck. At the beginning, I thought I was a competitive candidate but now I am starting to doubt myself. Quick facts: -Been a loadmaster in the Guard for 7 years, -Private Pilot (66.1 Hours) -College Grad, BBA in Business Economics, 3.16 GPA -AFOQT: 85 Pilot 82 Navigator 90 Academic Aptitude 99 Verbal 61 Quantitative PCSM Score of 81. Also, I felt like I knocked both interviews out of the park when I left but apparently not.

Currently active duty, e-2, just turned 20. I’m almost done with my cdcs and can hopefully start college ASAP. My plan is to join Rotc, get a high pcsm with some flight hours and get a pilot slot. My question is what steps should I take today, or tomorrow to reach this goal. I have a plan, but what can I do to ensure it doesn’t fall through. Sorry if this isn’t the place for this post. Thanks for reading.

Edit 1: to reflect PCSM score after taking TBAS Edit 2: to reflect updated flight hours and subsequent PCSM increase; age increase; context updated Hello, I am a civilian with no prior service looking to fly any heavy airframe I can get my hands on. Hello everyone, I would like to start off by saying thank you to those of you that are reading this that have served and are currently serving this country. I hope to join you soon! (New member here) I am a college senior finally getting to the point where I can start applying seriously to guard units. I'm graduating this spring with an accredited engineering degree and have my PPL with around 120 hours along with my tail wheel endorsement. I will be applying to several upcoming UPT boards in the north east focusing on fighters for now. I'm just trying to get an idea of my competitiveness as well as gain any tips on rushing units and getting to know the right pe…

To make a long story short, I'm partially blind in one eye. I have a blind spot in my central vision that leaves me with normal peripheral vision, but no foveal acuity. It's a stable condition, but can't be fixed. Let's call that eye 20/400 and completely uncorrectable. I'm 20/25 or so in the other eye, easily correctable to 20/20. I'm having a hard time finding this definitively, but from what I can gather, I simply won't be able to fly jets for the military. Am I correct that a waiver or exception for 20/400 is simply not a possibility, despite being correctable to 20/20 in the other eye? For what it's worth, my vision hasn't held me back at all as far as…
