What Are My Chances?

Looking for a pilot slot? Post your "what are my chances?" questions here: AFOQT, BAT, PCSM, ANG and AFRES Slots, *waivers* + more - please include your test scores, GPA, etc...

  1. Started by AirLift56,

Greetings, Is it possible to go through Navy OTS and pilot training, do 2-5 years of active duty, than transfer to an Airforce ANG unit before the obligation period? If possible, is it looked down upon? I read here that transferring from one service to another is possible - , however I assume that's after one's commitment period?

It feels like it's been way too long but I finally have my scores together to post one of these, so here it is: Age: 25 Flight experience: 131 hrs, PPL, time in your standard training aircraft (172, Warrior, Cherokee), some time on floats, and some time in R44s. HP and Complex endorsements. I'll be starting in to my IFR in the next couple of weeks here. First off, I know there's only so much one can judge based on what I give here without seeing my whole package. I've been denied from the past 5 fighter board interviews after being accepted to the first one I applied to and nearly getting hired (what I was told). I even visited one of the units ahead of the invite dates, but didn't get invited. Put a lot more work into my cover letter and resume after the four rejections in a short period thinking that was my main weakness for that batch, but still didn't hold up for this latest board. Where's my weakness here? I know it takes over a year usually for guys to get to UPT from hire date so I didn't think my graduation date …

Hi all, I’ve been waiting to post here with some fresh AFOQT/TBAS scores, but I still haven’t been able to sit for the test, so I figured I should start in the meantime. Once the recruiter heard my age (32), he balked at pilot talk, and went straight into pushing me toward CSO or Intel (neither of which I have interest in). Background: BS/MS Aero Eng. Entire post-college work history is govt. contracting, in Aero Eng. related fields. Oh, and my work site shares the airfield with the Guard unit I am most interested in (what I’m getting at, is they know the group I work for, and that I know what the locality entails). The past couple of years I’ve been workin…

  9. Just wanted to get some feedback on chances for a pilot slot or CSO slot with the Reserves or ANG with the scores that I have, or if I should retake the AFOQT and get some flight hours. AFOQT Score P:54/Nav:74/AA:48/V:68/Q:32 B.A. in History GPA: 3.28 A little background on the total person, because I understand those scores are most likely lower than the average, I was a Division I swimmer and was captain my senior year. In addition I worked very closely with the Athletic Department and was a representative on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee as well as the Intercollegiate Athletic Board. I also coached swimming at the Club, High School, and C…

  10. Started by oldfuck,

I just applied to my first squadron, and I'd like to know how you guys think I stack up. Here are the numbers: GPA: 3.75 AFOQT: 92/77/50/60/43 PCSM: 67 Flight Hours: 27 Age: 28 LORs: 3; from current and former AF officers Obviously I need to get more flight hours and get that PCSM up. Flying and graduating college are my top priorities right now. I expect to have my PPL by the end of the year, and about 80 hours around that same time. I will continue to build hours until I get picked up by a unit. I know I'm cutting it close with my age; I'm going to keep pushing until I get hired. Thanks everyone.

  11. I turn 29 in July. Unfortunately I was a bit late in the game deciding I wanted to fly for the Air Force, and by the time I did, it took me ages to actually correspond with an officer recruiter (like almost a year). I finally managed to get in touch with one late last year who told me there was no chance for me because of my age and pulled the plug on submitting me to the April board because apparently I'm officially in waiver territory. I've been told by a lot of people in the Air Force that it can be done, but the recruiter told me they're all wrong. However, turns out I've got until my birthday to make something work out with the Air National Guard. So far I've ap…

  12. Sometimes looking at these threads can be discouraging. It seems like nearly everyones scores are 90+ across the board, stellar GPAs, etc... Well heres some hope from an average joe who was just picked up by a heavy unit... Here is my AFOQT Super Score P:82 CSO: 61 ABM:63 ACAD: 31 Verb: 51 Quant: 20 PCSM:85 My point here is that its possible, even if your scores aren't amazing, you may just have to work a little bit harder. You NEED to network with someone at the squadron you want to attend, preferably someone within the hiring process or that has a good relationship with someone in the process. You will likely never get selected for an interview with po…

Baseops community and fellow UPT hopefuls, I was lucky enough to get selected during my first interview and never got around to using the BogiDope Interview Prep Package that I had purchased. Their App review helped me immensely during the process and I'm sure their interview prep is of the same game changing quality. That being said I leaned on this forum a lot over the past year and would like to give back to a fellow applicant. So, the rules are simple, post below that you would like to be entered to win and on Friday night the 22nd of November I'll pull a name from a hat to choose the winner. Here is further information on the package, https://bogido…

  14. Started by Rated Flyer 4 Life,

It’s a long story, but basically during UPT I decided to switch tracks from fighter to heavy. My original fighter unit is the one that gave me the slot. I went on to fly for a heavy unit. I’m starting to miss that fighter unit that I originally got hired by a few years ago. Would I be crazy to try and apply for a rated board with them?

  17. I'm a Sophmore in College currently. I'm still debating on whether or not to go the ROTC route or the Guard/Reserve Route. Good Afternoon, I'm looking to fly for the guard, preferably fighters, but at this point I'll take anything. I'm currently a Space Operations Officer, been in for about a year and a half now. I have a 77 PCSM with a flawless medical and 62 flight hours. Will be getting my PPL when I get to Colorado. I also applied to cross train over to pilot, and will again this year. It just seems impossible right now so I'm not holding my breath...What I'm wondering, cause I really want to fly, will I have to wait to palace chase to join the guard or can they take my active duty commitment? I'm also wondering if anybody has a list of the units that are currently hiring and how I …

  21. So I am trying to become a fighter pilot in maybe the Gaurd or the reserves. I think Airforce would be the best place to go to get adjusted and then maybe transfer to the Navy later on but please correct me if I am wrong. So I am going to put some bullet points here of what I have done so far in life. First thing I will put down is background history. I was a farmer for four years when I started working for income, I then started working at a dealership for two and a half years doing a range of things from cutting up metal poles and other such things to gardening and landscaping and filling in holes with quick asphalt and leveling stones, as well as a valeigh. I w…

  22. Old guy here at 35. Here's my story: 10 years ago I got my PPL (about 47 hours) and applied to a guard unit, was told no, but that I was heavily considered (fighters). Reapplied the next year and they said no again. Looked through other avenues for a couple years but recruiters (Navy and USMC) said I wasn't a strong enough applicant for Aviation. At the time I didn't really have much useful employment experience (was a freelance musician.) I ended up squaring my life away and pulling myself up by my bootstraps by getting into a great civilian career in healthcare IT. I decided I still wanted to serve my country, so I enlisted into the Army National Guard in the Infan…

  23. I've been trying since January to take the AFOQT. I have the study guides, I've taking the online practice tests, etc. But I can't seem to get anyone body to let me physically take the test! The threads I read on here say to contact your look AFROTC Detachment. I did and they told me they only allow non-cadets to take it once in the fall during the beginning of the semester. Only cadets can take it any time. I've gone to almost every Air Force recruiting office in my metro area to try and schedule a date to take the test. All of them say you have to be putting together an officer packet before they let me take the test and I don't have enough college credits to start putt…

  24. ATTN: Experts and Professionals that know everything about AD Rated Boards! (Posting for S/O)Here is my personal rundown: I am a non-tech major with a 3.6 GPA, I made a 78 on my Pilot and an 85 on my Nav. All of my AFOQT Scores are a 78/85/57/37/23. I took my TBAS Friday and made a 40 for my PCSM with no flight hours. I really am confused about how I made a 40 or how it is scaled because I thought I only missed 10 or less. I have a lot of leadership experience, community service, managing positions, etc. I am worried that my PCSM is going to ruin my chances despite the other scores and my personal packet. I really don't know if I would even be able to get en…
