I have some big questions about things I should do before leaving for the UPT training pipe as a reservist. I’m prior service, single no dependents. The big one is how BAH works at OTS and UPT for reservists. If I sign a lease now, will it be paid while I’m away and I’ll also receive on base housing? In my prior service as a reserves guy I remember people getting something like this I think.

Good morning all, First off I apologize if this isn't the right forum for this but I need some advice on how to proceed with my situation. I am currently an AD O-3 with approximately 3 years of flying experience (late-to-rate), and have already been passed over for Major on the initial attempt. To make things more complicated, I am currently at PIT with my graduation date not slated till about Jan-Mar, which will have been passed the board convene date for my second look. If passed over again I will TRY and find a flying job in the civilian sector, but due to my current hours it is making it difficult for me to find a job (TBNT from United through their UMPP). I have…

Hey, For those of you in the ANG or AFR who have been deployed, what did you do with your family? If it's just a spouse, can they come with you? Are you eligible for on-base housing with your spouse? If you have a wife and kids I guess you don't really have any choice but to leave them behind, if the wife works or the kids are in school..... If you've been deployed, how long was it for, and how rough was it? My girlfriend and I currently live in different states, so I'm a little bit accustomed to being apart, but I'm wondering how hard on the family it is when you get deployed? Thanks for your info, -Will Also, an entirely unrelated but similarly n00bish questio…

Is it standard practice to follow-up with a phone call to a unit after the packet has been submitted? I know this is common practice in the civilian world, no idea about military. On the same note, is there a general time frame it takes to hear back from a unit if they are going to invite you for an interview? I guess for me the anticipation is the worst part of it.

I'm thinking about putting in my palace chase application, but my ISR doesn't have any info on the new Montana unit and when they might start hiring people up there. C-130s in Montana pretty much equates to my dream job (airframe + close to home), so if I have to stick around AD for a while longer for a spot to open up I would rather do that than skip out now and miss out. If anyone has any inside info on it or knows someone who would let me pick their brain, I'd appreciate it.

For Guardsmen going to UNT, is it a PCS, or two TDY's? I'm getting conflicting info when I ask around. Also, if looking to get into an earlier UNT slot, does your unit work that through the ANG? Or through the active duty people at AFPC? For any of you that got moved up to an earlier date, any good insight to share? Thanks.

I am starting my search for ANG/Reserve jobs. I have 14 years AD and would like to find a full time job to finish out my 20 years and beyond if the unit lets me go past 20. Many of my buddies have fallen into AGR slots but it seems like I can't find anything. There are prospects here and there but most seems like timing...units standing up.. basically being in the right place at the right time. I have RPA experience.. 12S core right now.. have AC/MC/slick experience and what I think is a good resume but nothing seems to be out there. At this point I would accept a non-flying. There are no centralized websites for job searches.. one website has different jobs than an…

So, looks like I have 1390 pts toward the 1460 points needed for O-1E. I have a few more drills and annual tour to get me over 1400, but my question is will I be able to hit that magic 1460 during OTS? I can't seem to find the regulation, but since you are enlisted during TFOT, I imagine the regulation stating 1460 points of prior enlisted service would include TFOT. Just trying to see if I should try and pick up extra orders before I go , or if il be covered.

I've heard that the Reserves(Guard?) are requiring 6 years as an Art after Upt. Is this going to cause people not to apply? Has manning gotten that bad?

I'm currently putting together my packet for the applications, and I had a couple questions about the letters of recommendation: 1. I know (very well) a retired Vice Admiral F/A-18 pilot, and regularly interact with F/A-18 pilots (I know, I'm very lucky). I also know a retired F-16 ANG guy pretty well, and a retired C-130 pilot (AD and reserves I believe). So I'm most likely going to choose the Vice Admiral and the F-16 pilot since I'm rushing fighter squadrons, but who do I choose as my third? Would a squadron be more interested in the F/A-18 pilots I work around, or a C-130 guy that I know through my dad, and happens to be a really good guy that helped talk me into…

Good evening ladies and gents, So, here I am, just signing on for a six year contract at an airlift squadron for Aerial Transportation (2T2X1) and I've run into a slight dilemma. So the squadron I am currently on with is an airlift squadron, were going from 130s to 17s in 2018 and that sounds super nice. However, a squadron not TOO far away from me flies F-16s and I've always love the idea of flying fast jets and they have alot of boards for folks. Here are a few questions to throw out to the experience masses: 1. Would it make me look like an ass getting on with one squadron just to leave them for another squadron later on down the road? 2. Would it be po…

Upfront: I'm an idiot for not noticing this sooner. Question 1: Should I have received Aviation Career Incentive Pay ("Flight Pay") for both IDT (UTA/AFTP) and AT Days? (Or is it just for AT days?) Question 2: what's the best way to go about getting back pay for Flight Pay from a Unit that I've since left? (I'm still in AFRC, just another unit) Background: I left AD and joined the Reserves in January 2014. Since that point, I've done all of my UTA's and AFTP's, as well as AT days; but it has always been in strings of 2-5 days at a time. I've never done a continuous order. Which means that my pay has always trickled in as relatively small deposits (so, I've never received…

When on Title 32 AGR orders for over 30 days, is your BAH based on your unit's zip code? Or on your residence zip code? Or something else?

I am currently at UPT and we had someone on active duty get hurt and have to be pushed back a few classes until they healed and could get off DNF. It got me thinking, as a guard guy,u how something like that would affect me if I got on a long term DNF status. Would my orders be suspended until I healed? If so, how would that affect my access to medical treatment and TriCare? Obviously I'm new to the guard and flying so any insight is appreciated. Thanks.

Hello everyone. I'm now a ROTC cadet looking at Reserve and Guard options. I should hopefully be commissioning in 2019. I have been searching for RPA and Space Ops units, but unsure which units are still operating with the same mission at this time, since most information online is from years ago. The ANG website is more straightforward, but the Air Force Reserve is not so much regarding what positions are available in which units. I'd greatly appreciate if any of you have information as to which units are available for me to consider applying to for ANG and ARC for RPA pilot and space operations officer positions. I know it's pretty early but ideally, I'd like to b…

I was already selected by a reserve unit at their UPT board, but now they are turning to the option of sending me unsponsored to get the process moving quicker. I'm not sure how that all works. Looking through the AFRC articles about applying unsponsored, but not seeing too much other than the fact it exists and what it's for. Any insight?

Hello, I'm new to this board, of which has been resourceful to me. So first off thanks everyone for your attention to this and helping others by taking time to give input! I realize this is rather long, so I'm grateful for anyone who sits down to read through this and give your advice!! A quick snippet of me and my situation - Always had inside me the heart to be a pilot for the air force, but due to a number of factors I decided against it and took another route. Spent 4 years in school for actuarial science, and spent additional 2200+ hours of studying to be an Actuary. If I'm honest, I never thought about what I wanted to do and just picked this path because…

Greetings All, I am an active duty Marine Corps officer who is looking to applying for a UPT slot in the Air Force Reserves. I just wanted to gauge how someone like myself has a chance of being selected for a UPT slot. My recruiter stated that obtaining an age waiver (ETP) is just a matter of paperwork and should not be a showstopper. Below is my brief stat: Rank: O-3 Commissioned Service Time: 7 years Active Duty Time: 5.5 years Age: 30 MOS: non-rated Flight Experience: PPL (Airplane-SEL) AFOQT: Pilot 89, Nav 71, Acad 33, Verb 27 (no clue what happened..), Quant 45 PCSM: 93

Does anyone has the Form 2030 that I can download from? I cannot view the PDF file on the www.e-publishing.af.mil website. I found PDF version of the form on other website, but it is not the 2017 version, which I think is the latest. Also, do I sign the form right away or wait until selected for the interview and sign it there, since my witness has no "Grade of Witness"? I appreciate any help or advice. Thank you.

For guard guys, can you tell me the process/timeline for date of rank and pay(or backpay). For example, once the PV has been approved by SecDef, is that your new DOR? After that it has to be passed on to the National Guard Bureau? How long does that process usually take? Is it after the NGB approves it that you actually start getting paid at new rank? Thanks

Long time lurker here, I have searched through the forums without luck trying to find out a bit more about the OR ANG. When applying I understand that they pool all applicants together and pick a couple highly qualified applicants out, for both Klamath Falls and also Portland. My question is if interviewed and picked up does the candidate get any say where he/she goes? Klamath has a largely different mission than Portland and I understand you'd get "farmed" out to another unit for several years before you return to the 114th and then are full time, whereas at Portland it is more of the traditional guard "gig".

I tried searching and couldn't find anything on how often do units hire. Is it every year or is it once every few years? I'm a 27 year old junior in college and New Jersey is my top choice (I'm originally from there). Ideally, I would love any unit in the Northeast, Great Lakes States or even Idaho or Wyoming. I love cold weather, four seasons, lush forests, mountains, hockey and snowboarding. Right now I live in the south and it's not for me. I would prefer a fighter unit but I am fine with flying heavies. The other reason I would prefer to move back is I would like a Law Enforcement civilian career. In the Northeast and Great Lakes states, the police unio…

What’s going in Kansas? I had some buddies wanting to get into that unit and when I asked recently about it they said everyone is running for the hills over there and that the place is imploding from something going on over there from the TAG down. What’s up?
