I have been reading a lot of the posts in this forum and it’s been very helpful for me during the process of trying to turn in my OTS package and I would like to thank everyone that is part of this forum for making my life a little easier. I’ve been in the AF for 7 years now (SSGT, 26yrs old) and the AF has helped me a lot. But for the last few months I’m starting to have doubts and I’m thinking of getting out. My problem is this: I graduated from Embry Riddle w/ BS in Pro Aero GPA 3.1. I’m currently working on my MS in Aviation Ops and 9 classes away from finishing. I have 275 hrs and have my PPL, IFR, COMM, and currently working on MULTI and CFI. I have earned nu…

Hello all. I am relatively new to this forum as a poster, so I will try to keep this brief and to the point. In order to increase my overall PCSM score I will need to log at least 5-10 flight hours since at present I am unable to afford the full cost of a PPL. My question is this: What exactly counts as flying hours? I currently live in Japan and plan on going back to the states to take some flight training after I have completed their ground school course. I've been reading up on the forums and a few folks mentioned that dual time recieved with a flight instructor can count toward my log book. Does this dual time include pre/post briefing, or only time spent in…

As I was waiting to take my first flight today (which went really well!), I noticed a couple of AFROTC cadets meeting with CAP officers and taking a flight. Does CAP offer free flight lessons to AFROTC cadets? I would be very interested in this since I am a bit financially strapped right now. I would appreciate anybody's advice especially anybody with previous CAP experience. Thanks.

Hola, I've heard some talk about abysmal T-38 track rates at UPT recently (sometimes none at all), can anyone confirm? I'm currently in limbo trying to decide between an active duty slot (if I get one) or go all in on a guard fighter squadron that is my dream unit. I'm only really interested in fighters, which obviously makes UPT even more competitive and makes guard more alluring to me with the airframe guarantee. If UPT classes are hardly dropping any T-38's then that's a little dissuading for guys who are shooting something you might not get just based on availability. Of course, even if I got an AD slot I wouldn't be at UPT for a year or two so everything ca…

I wasn't sure if this belonged in ROTC or Pilot selection thread. Anyway, I'm studying Mechanical Engineering and I "heard" that USAF is looking for civil engineers. Mechanical Engineering is alot differenct from Civil. I was curious if wanting to try for Pilot slot with a Mechanical Engineering degree would hurt me. Would they say hey we need you more as a Engineer even though you are qualified for pilot? I wanted to put down some type of engineering job for a fall back if I don't get NAV or PILOT. Then I was thinking maybe thats not a good idea because they may just give me the engineering position. Any suggestions?? Also, Anyone here who got selected fo…

I was recently notified that I have been selected for both an active duty pilot slot as well as a slot at my local ANG unit in my home town. I'm having problems deciding which slot to accept. The local ANG squadron flies C130s which seems like a very cool platform to fly, and it would be amazing to be local my entire career around family because it is where I grew up. I also plan to fly for the airlines one day and most of the pilots in the unit fly for the airlines so I would have a lot of connections to the majors. However it is tempting to go active duty for the outstanding benefits and the chance at fighters which has been a dream of mine. However after looking at rec…

Hi all, I don't like to toot my horn...for the most part have lurked these forums doing as much searching as possible and reading old threads for guidance as I submit my packets. That said, I just got my scores back and am just feeling really pleased and excited, I'm sure you remember the feeling. Mostly this is a thread to just thank everyone for all the collective wisdom that exists here. There are a lot of smart people here who have worked hard to get similar scores to me so obviously many of us pre-selectees are in a similar boat but I'm happy to feel like I've taken one more small step towards the bigger goal of flying in service to our country. AFOQT/PCSM Sc…

This is my first post here. I've been lurking on this board for a while though. I am working on putting my application together for OTS. I don't believe I'll be able to get my package together in time for the 09ot01 board but I am going to give it a shot. If I am not able to complete my package in time for the 09ot01 board I'll be applying for the 09ot02 board. What would be the most competitive AFSC to have when applying for UPT from AD?

I have been selected for a UPT slot with an ANG unit. I am trying to make the difficult decision of whether or not to seize this opportunity. In other circumstances I wouldn't hesitate to jump right in and sign the paperwork. However my fiance (together 10 years) is a type 1 diabetic and has numerous health problems. She is still young/healthy enough that she can take care of herself for the most part, but I would like to be there as much as possible for emotional support and she would stay behind if I left to support us financially as an engineer. So my question is how reasonable would it be to expect to fly home on weekends while at UPT. Again I would be in UP…

I've got a buddy coming up on a Commander's Review Board after hooking an 89 ride...does anyone know the ROE's on these things (i.e. how to best defend yourself)? Is he supposed to "lawyer up" and list every single action/comment/etc that may have played a factor in his failure, or is that frowned upon by those deciding his fate? I've heard that the chances are slim that anyone will be reinstated after one of these, but does anyone know of someone who made it out alive? If so, for what reasons were they reinstated? Any advice on how to fare better on these would be appreciated. We had some guys wash out when I went through, but (to my knowledge) none elected to d…

I don't know if I'm posting in the right place so please tell me if I'm not and then move or delete if you want. I want to a be a Full-Time(not in the Guard or Reserves) Pilot. But right now I just graduated 10th grade. So I know I got a little while but I just want to know what I'm getting into. I'm home schooled but I will get a high school diploma just like a high school student. Will this keep me from becoming an officer? How can I become a Officer? I know of the Academy and ROTC and I have been told that I can forget the Academy and forget a 4-year ROTC scholarship because I'm home schooled. Anyway if anyone can help please post, any information will help.

I'm trying to locate a current UPT and IFF syllabus guide. I know in Naval flight training, there is a particular guide book that is issued to students that lists all the flight events with briefing points, skills to be performed in block and what is required to meet MIF in block. So my question: Does this exist for Air Force UPT and IFF? Another question: Where can I get a current electronic copy? Bonus question: Is there anyone here that has ever served on an Aeronautical Review Board (ARB) or been through one that I can PM for additional questions? I've already read the few threads here on ARB's, but need some insight beyond what's been said already. Many …

Well I did worse than I thought on the academic stuff...but I don't think il retest unless I start getting skipped over during interviews. PILOT: 96 NAV: 73 ACAD APT: 49 VERBAL: 53 QUANT: 45 PCSM 83 , 86 with 80 hours (currently 69) 90 with 101 hours . I am hoping my 3.5 gpa and pcsm will help my chances. Took exactly 3 weeks to receive both.

I don't think this overlaps with the ENJJPT Information thread as I searched it pretty thoroughly, but if it does I'm sorry and someone just point me in the right direction! I was curious as to the overall process of getting selected for ENJJPT. As in how many people are selected? What are the average scores of those selected? do they want letters of recommendation? etc... any info as to the process of being picked up for ENJJPT would be helpful! Thanks.

Hey everyone, I've been considering applying to OTS for a while now. I've been studying various AFOQT books, reading about things online, talking to pilots, etc. I contacted a recruiter, and he sent me some generic OTS documents. What really struck me was this: I haven't moved forward with the process, mainly because I don't have a Private Pilot's License. I only have an hour of flight time. I'd like to get my PPL before applying, but is it really necessary? I'm sure it would improve my chances, but I'm wondering how true the "1% chance" thing is. I realize this has been discussed somewhat in other topics, but I haven't seen anyone directly address how OTS is currently d…

Good Afternoon Gents, I am set to take the AFOQT for the first time this Tuesday at a local AFROTC Det and was just informed that this will be the last time the AFOQT Series S will be administered. After this test date, all future tests will be the Series T. Does anyone know what the difference will be between the Series S and Series T? Is it a whole new test with a different format and subtest structure? WIll there be substantial differences between the two? I am seeking guidance on this because in the event of a retest, I wouldn't want to take a test that is a completely different from the first test that I had taken. Thanks in advance for all the help …

Hi folks, This is a repost from the ROTC lounge room. I'm currently starting my final year of college also seriously considering retaking my AFOQT to try and improve my PCSM. AS of the moment, I am planning on commissioning FY18, but that may all change. Hear me out. I'm not really one to be tact so I'll just say this the best that I know how. At the moment, I have an RPA slot and as glamorous as the future of this career looks, it's not something I think I want for myself. That whole idea of flying in a box, disconnected from everything that has defined flying for the past century is something I am still not sure about. As of right now, my PCSM i…

I am in the situation where I have the opportunity to attend a civilian flight school and get all the ratings (PPC/IR/Com./CFI/CFII/ME/MEI) and then go to college and get a degree. Naturally, I'm considering an aviation college, cause I would be able to work part-time as an instructor to pay for tuition/get hours. This way I would get a Bachelor and at the same time be educated and experienced as a civilian aviator, so if something unforseen happends that disqualifies me for military aviation I will be able to work in commercial aviation. However, I fear that if I show up with 1000-1500 hours flying time and all those ratings, the OTS-board will think "hey, this g…

I saw a couple of forum post on Reddit about the Airforce recently allowing AFOQT Super Scores, meaning that if you do a retake they will take the higher scores between your original attempt and your 2nd attempt. Reddit forums seem to show conflicting information as some say super scores only apply if you fail verbal and/or quant and will only be applied to those sections. Others forums seem to imply that it applies to all sections. Does anybody know how these AFOQT super scores work? Here's a link to the Reddit post for reference: Can the AFOQT be super scored? : airforceots (reddit.com) Thanks!

Hey all, I have a question about the tbas scoring structure after reading and hearing about some of the pcsm scores people ended up with. For some disclosure I have a 99 pilot score, 55 flight hours (so in the 41-60 bracket), and currently have a 75 pcsm. My 201+ score is 91 and I am retaking the tbas next week. Using some extrapolation I figure I have 8 points to gain if I max the tbas. However, I've been noticing some scores that have been posted that don't align with this (i.e. someone with an 83 pcsm with less than 20 hours). If I were in the same hour bracket that would put me at a 67 which is a 16 point difference, significantly more than the 8 points I figure I hav…

Hey guys. I'm a senior in high school right now, and sometime last year(under 18) I had a run in with the police of underage drinking, I also have a couple of speeding tickets. Will this affect me later when I go to apply for a pilot slot? Or will it not matter because I was under 18? Thanks for all the help
