Ok this is not the standard "will I get BAH/S in OTS" question, it is a little different. I am currently an Airborne Linguist (1A8) and from what I understand I will retain that AFSC through OTS, untill I graduate. My question is, if I retain my current AFSC, then do I still get my Language Incentive pay and Flight Pay? I ask because for 3 months that is about 1k in extra pay and I dont want to lose it because no one asked the question. Thank in advance for any advice given to me. Also, I am going up for a rated board and I was wondering if my time on AOs will carry over to my new rated career field? Thanks again.

I'm not one of those people who are 100% sure they want to fly for the next decade. Reading on this forum motivates me to fly though... other things don't, like being a left coast tree-hugger. Regardless: what are the consequences of SIE from UPT? $? Retrain? FWIW I start in January so I have time. I signed my assignment RIP a couple months ago now. (aslo, usafa '05 so the $ part might be different). Flame me through PM's. THey'll be more fun.

If you were a new Lt. on casual somewhere, would you be able to do a job on the weekend outside of the AF such as bartending? It seems that you would have the time and I wouldn't see why you couldnt. Just curious.

I think that I remember hearing that the speed for the overhead break is around 350 knots, but do fighter guys ever go above this speed "for fun?" On airwarriors, they talk about how they usually do a minimum of 500 knots, but maybe that's because they're at the boat. Just curious...

  6. Please read the following article, and any links necessary if you are interested. I find it interesting that CMSAF would answer questions based on an Reddit.com AMA, but I'm glad this might actually be looked at through the appropriate light. https://www.airforcetimes.com/story/military/2015/06/02/air-force-reviewing-if-airmen-overlooked-for-medal-of-honor/28371279/ I ran into this type of mindset throughout my time in the military and I was always dumbfounded when leadership would squash a medal nomination for one of my guys. The leadership's misguided logic was that if someone received an achievement medal, then it would look bad if they received another one…

Does anyone have any advice for a PCS to Europe as far as taking or not taking cars? I heard a rumor that some countries you can take full size vehicles, like trucks and such, and get a premium for them in sale/trade over there. Also does anyone know about how much it cost to take more than the one "allowed" vehicle? I would like to have two vehicles to make it a bit easier for my wife and I to get around when and where we need to. Thanks!

  8. I'm looking for folks on Active Duty who are running business while still "in". On my Podcast I interview Active Duty Entrepreneurs and ask them to share advice and tips to those that would like to follow in their footsteps. Generally those who are running successful businesses don't necessarily advertise their successes for a number of reasons, some valid, some not so much. If you or someone you know is running a business while on AD, PM me or checkout our website www.activedutymillionaire.com and drop us a line there. Our goal is to help others start and run their businesses NOW rather than wait until a decision point forces a different choice. I think most will be…

  9. Hey folks. So I'm headed to UPT pretty soon and in the meantime I'm trying to plan ahead for the future. I'm an engineer by trade and for the last 10 years have been working in an office. I have no desire to have a full time office/desk gig ever in the future again, and I'm working on getting into some independent consulting (out of my house) on the side after training when I'm not doing Air Force stuff all the time. Just curious what other small businesses traditional reservists/guardsmen have to work on in their free time. I have seen a number of realtors and flight instructors, but I'm curious to see what else people have done or are doing and how successful its been. …

Does an oxygen mask (like an MBU-5/P) provide any kind of protection from noise to the microphone? I fly a noisy biplane and I already have a military helmet. I was thinking that using an oxygen mask I could improve the quality of my radio transmissions. Of course the free end of the mask hose would not be connected to an oxygen system, but it would be secured at the back of the cockpit where the noise level is somewhat lower. Another question: does the oxygen mask seal perfectly on the face of the pilot or in airplane with an oxygen system, some of the oxygen seeps out of the mask? Thanks

A P-8 Poseidon slid off the runway and into the water in Hawaii, possibly due to WX. No injuries reported and from the photos the damage looks minimal, but an inspection might reveal a hull loss if there is major damage to the MLG trunnions and engine pylons and wing spars.

as an airlift pilot, i was under the impression that "pacer-craig" of the kc135 variety was actually an acronym for something. i was just reading a regulation that had "pacer-craig" spelled out, which i thought was wrong. can a tanker pilot please enlighten me? thanks ps - what percentage of AD 135s have this mod? pps - did you [tanker pilots] know that we [c17 pilots] don't need to know your squawk? i can't speak for c5s, but i chuckle when tanker pilots pass us their squawk. At water survival, they put a lot of emphasis on parachute training for everybody, but does everybody get parachutes? Obviously the ejection seat folks have that option, but what (if any) heavies do? Herks? And in that, what kind of training do they give us for that kind of egress? "Try to put it in a slight climb, and then run like hell..."

So I’ve been debating with a buddy about this theory.... I am weary as to whether the US government will be able to pay the military retirement in the next 30-40 years. My concerns are led by the fact our debt is growing drastically and we continue to pass bills which we can’t pay. Numbers Govt tax revenue / spending 2021-3.86T / 4.83T (not counting the two multiple trillion dollar bills) 2020-3.71T / 6.16T 2019-3.46T / 4.448T 2018-3.33T / 4.09T We keep printing money and spending out of control. At what point do we start cutting spending in some way or form and what takes the hit? He thinks I’m overly paranoid about not having a future income or it being worthless. …

Hello, I'm interested in becoming a PJ and I'm curious about how they are regarded within the USAF. I've read quite a bit of interesting things in the forums about SP's, but can you guys tell me about your experiences working with PJ's and what you think of them. I know that they're pretty much considered aircrew in the Rescue Squadrons. I know this isn't really about flying but I'm curious to hear some opinions from aircrew and non aircrew members. I've been on the special tactics forums but I would kind of like to hear some outsider perspectives on their community. Thanks
